Acts 13
1 Now in the church that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
Il y avait dans l'église d'Antioche des prophètes et des docteurs, Barnabas, Syméon dit Niger, Lucius de Cyrène, ainsi que Manahem, qui avait été élevé avec Hérode le Tétrarque, et Saul.
2 As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them."
Pendant qu'ils rendaient leur culte au Seigneur et qu'ils jeûnaient, le Saint-Esprit dit: «Mettez-moi à part Barnabas et Saul pour l'oeuvre à laquelle je les ai appelés.»
3 Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
Alors, après qu'ils eurent jeûné et prié, ils leur imposèrent les mains, et les laissèrent aller.
4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus.
Pour eux, envoyés par le Saint-Esprit, ils descendirent à Séleucie, et de là ils firent voile pour l'île de Chypre.
5 When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. They had also John as their attendant.
Arrivés à Salamine, ils annoncèrent la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs: Jean les accompagnait en qualité d'aide.
6 When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a certain man, a magician, a Jewish false prophet whose name was Bar-Jesus,
Après avoir parcouru toute l'île jusqu’à Paphos, ils trouvèrent un certain personnage, magicien, faux prophète juif, nommé Bar-jésus,
7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.
qui vivait auprès du proconsul Sergius Paulus, homme de sens. Le proconsul, ayant fait appeler Barnabas et Saul, témoigna le désir d'entendre la parole de Dieu;
8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn aside the proconsul from the faith.
mais Elymas, le mage (car c'est ce que signifie ce nom) leur faisait opposition et cherchait à détourner le proconsul de la foi.
9 But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him,
Saul, qui s'appelle aussi Paul, rempli du Saint-Esprit, l'ayant regardé fixement, lui dit:
10 and said, "Full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
«Homme plein de toute sorte de ruse et de toute sorte de fourberie, fils du diable, ennemi de toute justice, ne cesseras-tu pas de pervertir les voies du Seigneur, qui sont droites?
11 Now, look, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, unable to see the sun for a time." Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
Mais voici, la main du Seigneur va s'appesantir sur toi, et tu seras aveugle, privé pour un temps de la vue du soleil.» Soudain, l'obscurité et les ténèbres tombèrent sur lui, et, allant de droite et de gauche, il cherchait quelqu'un pour le conduire.
12 Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.
Alors le proconsul, témoin de cet événement, embrassa la foi: il était frappé de la doctrine du Seigneur.
13 Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos, and came to Perga in Pamphylia, and John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.
Paul et ses compagnons s'embarquèrent à Paphos et vinrent à Perge en Pamphylie. Jean les quitta et s'en retourna à Jérusalem.
14 But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down.
Pour eux, étant partis de Perge, ils se rendirent à Antioche en Pisidie, et, étant entrés dans la synagogue le jour du sabbat, ils y prirent place.
15 After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak."
Après la lecture de la Loi et des Prophètes, les chefs de la synagogue leur firent dire: «Frères, si vous avez quelques mots d'exhortation à adresser au peuple, parlez.»
16 Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen.
Paul se leva, et, ayant fait signe de la main, il dit: «Israélites, et vous qui craignez Dieu, écoutez:
17 The God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as foreigners in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it.
Le Dieu de ce peuple choisit autrefois nos pères, et éleva bien haut ce peuple pendant son séjour au pays d'Egypte; puis, il l'en tira par la puissance de son bras,
18 For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.
et durant quarante ans environ, il en prit soin au désert.
19 When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance.
Après avoir détruit sept nations dans le pays de Canaan, il le mit en possession de leur territoire.
20 All this took about four hundred and fifty years. And after these things he gave them judges, until Samuel the prophet.
Ensuite, durant quatre cent cinquante ans environ, il leur donna des juges jusqu’à Samuel le prophète.
21 Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.
Ils demandèrent alors un roi, et Dieu leur donna Saul, fils de Kis, de la tribu de Benjamin, qui régna quarante ans;
22 When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.'
puis, l'ayant retiré, il leur suscita pour roi David, à qui il a rendu témoignage, disant: «J'ai trouvé David fils d'Issai, homme selon mon coeur, qui exécutera toutes mes volontés.»
23 From this man's offspring, according to his promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus,
C'est de la postérité de ce prince que Dieu, selon sa promesse, a donné à Israël un Sauveur, savoir Jésus.
24 before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
Immédiatement avant sa venue, Jean avait prêché le baptême de la repentance à tout le peuple d'Israël,
25 As John was fulfilling his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But look, one comes after me the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'
et, arrivé au terme de sa course, il disait: «Qui pensez-vous que je sois? Je ne suis pas le Messie. Mais voici, il vient après moi, celui dont je ne suis pas digne de délier les sandales.»
26 Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to us.
Mes frères, c'est à vous, descendants d'Abraham, et à ceux d'entre vous qui craignent Dieu, que cette parole de salut est envoyée.
27 For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.
Pour les habitants de Jérusalem et leurs magistrats, ils n'ont point reconnu Jésus, et, en le jugeant, ils ont accompli la voix des prophètes, qui se lisent tous les sabbats.
28 Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed.
Quoiqu'ils n'aient trouvé en lui aucun crime qui méritât la mort, ils ont demandé à Pilate de le faire mourir.
29 When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree, and placed him in a tomb.
Mais, quand ils eurent accompli tout ce qui est écrit à son sujet, on l'ôta delà croix, et on le plaça dans un sépulcre;
30 But God raised him from the dead,
et Dieu l'a ressuscité des morts.
31 and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people.
Il est apparu, pendant plusieurs jours de suite, à ceux qui étaient montés avec lui de Galilée a Jérusalem, eux qui lui servent maintenant de témoins auprès du peuple.
32 We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers,
Et nous, nous vous annonçons que cette promesse faite à nos pères,
33 that God has fulfilled for us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm, 'You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.'
Dieu l’a accomplie pour nous, leurs enfants, en ressuscitant Jésus, ainsi qu'il est écrit au Psaume premier: «Tu es mon Fils; c'est moi qui j’ai engendré aujourd'hui.»
34 "Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: 'I will give to you the faithful sacred things of David.'
Que Dieu l’ait ressuscité des morts, pour qu'il ne retournât plus à la corruption, c'est ce qu'il a dit en ces termes: «Je vous donnerai les choses saintes promises à David, lesquelles sont certaines.»
35 Therefore he says also in another psalm, 'You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.'
C'est ce qu'il dit encore dans un autre Psaume: «Tu ne laisseras pas ton Saint voir la corruption; »
36 For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was placed with his fathers, and saw decay.
en effet, tandis que David, après avoir, pour sa propre génération, servi les desseins de Dieu, s'est endormi, a été recueilli avec ses pères et a vu la corruption,
37 But he whom God raised up saw no decay.
celui que Dieu a ressuscité, n'a pas vu la corruption.
38 Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you forgiveness of sins,
Sachez donc, mes frères, que c'est par ce Jésus que le pardon des péchés vous est annoncé,
39 and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the Law of Moses.
et que tout homme qui Croit, trouve en lui la justification de tout ce dont vous ne pouviez être justifiés par la loi de Moïse.
40 So beware, lest what is said in the Prophets should come about:
Prenez donc garde qu'il ne vous arrive ce qui est dit dans les Prophètes:
41 'Look, you scoffers, and be amazed, and perish; for I am working a work in your days, a work which you will not believe, if one tells it to you.'"
«Contempteurs, voyez!... soyez étonnés et disparaissez; car je vais faire une oeuvre en votre temps, une oeuvre que vous ne croiriez point, quand on vous la raconterait.»
42 So when they went out they urged them to speak about these things on the next Sabbath.
A leur sortie, on les pria de parler sur le même sujet au sabbat suivant.
43 Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.
Quand l'assemblée se sépara, plusieurs Juifs et plusieurs prosélytes pieux accompagnèrent Paul et Barnabas, qui, en s'entretenant avec eux, leur persuadèrent de demeurer attachés à la grâce de Dieu.
44 The next Sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of the Lord.
Le sabbat suivant, presque toute la ville se rassembla pour entendre la parole de Dieu.
45 But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and reviled him.
La vue de cette foule remplit les Juifs d'une violente haine; ils contredisaient ce que Paul avançait, ajoutant aux contradictions les injures.
46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, "It was necessary that God's word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, look, we turn to the non-Jewish people. (aiōnios g166)
Paul et Barnabas leur dirent tout ouvertement: «C'est bien à vous qu'il fallait d'abord annoncer la parole de Dieu; mais, puisque vous la repoussez, et que, vous-mêmes, vous ne vous jugez pas dignes de la vie éternelle, eh bien! nous nous tournons vers les Gentils; (aiōnios g166)
47 For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, 'I have set you as a light to the nations, that you may bring salvation to the farthest part of the earth.'"
car c'est ainsi que le Seigneur nous l’a ordonné: «Je t'ai établi pour servir de lumière aux Gentils, pour porter le salut jusqu'au bout de la terre.»
48 As the non-Jewish people heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord. As many as were appointed to everlasting life believed. (aiōnios g166)
Les Gentils, qui les entendaient, étaient dans la joie, et glorifiaient la parole du Seigneur. Et tous ceux qui étaient disposés pour la vie éternelle, crurent. (aiōnios g166)
49 The Lord's word was spread abroad throughout all the region.
La parole du Seigneur se propageait par tout le pays.
50 But the Jews stirred up the devout women of prominence and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their borders.
Mais les Juifs ayant excité les grandes dames dévotes et les principaux de la ville, provoquèrent une persécution contre Paul et Barnabas, et les firent chasser de leur territoire.
51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.
Les apôtres, ayant secoué contre eux la poussière de leurs pieds, se rendirent à Icône.
52 The disciples were filled with joy with the Holy Spirit.
Toutefois les disciples étaient remplis de joie et d'esprit saint.
