< 2 Kings 12 >
1 In the seventh year of Jehu began Jehoash to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
Joas began to reign in the seventh year of Ju, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name [was] Sabia of Bersabee.
2 Jehoash did that which was right in the eyes of YHWH all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
And Joas did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all the days that Jodae the priest instructed him.
3 However the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
Only there were not [any] of the high places removed, and the people still sacrificed there, and burnt incense on the high places.
4 Jehoash said to the priests, "All the money of the holy things that is brought into the house of YHWH, in current money, the money of the persons for whom each man is rated, and all the money that it comes into any man's heart to bring into the house of YHWH,
And Joas said to the priests, [As for] all the money of the holy things that is brought into the house of the Lord, the money of valuation, [as] each man brings the money of valuation, all the money which any man may feel disposed to bring into the house of the Lord,
5 let the priests take it to them, every man from his acquaintance; and they shall repair the breaches of the house, wherever any breach shall be found."
let the priests take it to themselves, every man from [the proceeds of] his sale: and they shall repair the breaches of the house in all [places] wherever a breach shall be found.
6 But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.
And it came to pass in the twenty-third year of king Joas the priests [had] not repaired the breaches of the house.
7 Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the other priests, and said to them, "Why do you not repair the breaches of the house? Now therefore take no more money from your treasurers, but deliver it for the breaches of the house."
And king Joas called Jodae the priest, and the [other] priests, and said to them, Why have you not repaired the breaches of the house? now then receive no [more] money from your sales, for you shall give it to [repair the] breaches of the house.
8 The priests consented that they should take no more money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house.
And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, and not to repair the breaches of the house.
9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the house of YHWH: and the priests who kept the threshold put in it all the money that was brought into the house of YHWH.
And Jodae the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it by the altar in the house of a man [belonging to] the house of the Lord, and the priests that kept the door put [therein] all the money that was found in the house of the Lord.
10 It was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in the house of YHWH.
And it came to pass, when they saw that [there was] much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest went up, and they tied up and counted the money that was found in the house of the Lord.
11 They gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of the house of YHWH: and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, who worked on the house of YHWH,
And they gave the money that had been collected into the hands of them that wrought the works, the overseers of the house of the Lord; and they gave it out to the carpenters and to the builders that wrought in the house of the Lord.
12 and to the masons and the stone cutters, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the breaches of the house of YHWH, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.
And to the masons, and to the hewers of stone, to purchase timber and hewn stone to repair the breaches of the house of the Lord, for all that was spent on the house of the Lord to repair [it].
13 But there were not made for the house of YHWH cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of YHWH;
Only there were not to be made for the house of the Lord silver plates, studs, bowls, or trumpets, any vessel of gold or vessel of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the Lord:
14 for they gave that to those who did the work, and repaired therewith the house of YHWH.
for they were to give it to the workmen, and they repaired therewith the house of the Lord.
15 Moreover they did not demand an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to give to those who did the work; for they dealt faithfully.
Also they took no account of the men into whose hands they gave the money to give to the workmen, for they acted faithfully.
16 The money for the trespass offerings, and the money for the sin offerings, was not brought into the house of YHWH: it was the priests'.
Money for a sin-offering, and money for a trespass-offering, whatever happened to be brought into the house of the Lord, went to the priests.
17 Then Hazael king of Aram went up, and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
Then went up Azael king of Syria, and fought against Geth, and took it: and Azael set his face to go against Jerusalem.
18 Jehoash king of Judah took all the holy things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own holy things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of YHWH, and of the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Aram: and he went away from Jerusalem.
And Joas king of Juda took all the holy things which Josaphat, and Joram, Ochozias, his fathers, and kings of Juda [had] consecrated, and what he had himself dedicated, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the Lord's house and the king's house, and he sent [them] to Azael king of Syria; and he went up from Jerusalem.
19 Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
And the rest of the acts of Joas, and all that he did, behold, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Juda?
20 His servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and struck Joash at the house of Millo, on the way that goes down to Silla.
And his servants rose up and made a conspiracy, and struck Joas in the house of Mallo that is in Sela.
21 For Jozabad the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, struck him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the City of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
And Jezirchar the son of Jemuath, and Jezabuth Somer's son, his servants, struck him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amessias his son reigned in his stead.
