1 Timothy 5
1 Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father; the younger men as brothers;
Älä vanhaa kovin nuhtele, vaan neuvo häntä niinkuin isää, nuoria niinkuin veljiä,
2 the older women as mothers; the younger as sisters, in all purity.
Vanhoja vaimoja niinkuin äitejä, nuoria niinkuin sisaria, kaikella puhtaudella.
3 Honor widows who are widows indeed.
Kunnioita niitä leskiä, jotka oikiat lesket ovat.
4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety towards their own family, and to repay their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
Mutta jos jollakulla leskellä lapsia on eli lasten lapsia, ne oppikaan ensin oman huoneensa jumalisesti hallitsemaan ja vanhempainsa hyvän työn maksamaan; sillä se on hyvin tehty ja Jumalalle otollinen.
5 Now she who is a widow indeed, and desolate, has her hope set on God, and continues in petitions and prayers night and day.
Ja se on oikia leski, joka yksinänsä on ja asettaa toivonsa Jumalan päälle, pysyin aina rukouksissa ja avuksihuutamisessa yötä ja päivää;
6 But she who gives herself to pleasure is dead while she lives.
Mutta joka hekumassa elää, se on elävältä kuollut.
7 Also command these things, so that they will be without fault.
Senkaltaisia neuvo, että he nuhteettomat olisivat.
8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.
Mutta jos ei joku omistansa, liiatenkin perheestänsä, murhetta pidä, se on uskon kieltänyt ja on pakanaa pahempi.
9 Let no one be enrolled as a widow under sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,
Älä salli nuorempaa leskeä otettaa kuin kuudenkymmenen ajastaikaista, joka yhden miehen emäntä on ollut,
10 being approved by good works, if she has brought up children, if she has been hospitable to strangers, if she has washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, and if she has diligently followed every good work.
Ja jolla on hyvistä töistä todistus, jos hän lapsia kasvattanut on, jos hän vierasten holhooja ollut on, jos hän pyhäin jalkoja pessyt on, jos hän murheellisia auttanut on, jos hän on kaikessa hyvässä työssä ahkera ollut.
11 But refuse younger widows, for whenever their passions lead them away from Christ, they desire to marry;
Mutta nuoret lesket hylkää; sillä koska he suuttuvat Kristukseen, niin he tahtovat huolla,
12 having condemnation, because they have rejected their first pledge.
Joilla on heidän tuomionsa, että he sen ensimäisen uskon rikkoneet ovat.
13 Besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.
Niin myös joutilaina ollessansa oppivat he huoneita ympärinsä juoksentelemaan; vaan ei he ainoastaan ole joutilaat, mutta myös kielevät, hempeät ja puhuvat luvattomia.
14 I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for reviling.
Sentähden minä tahdon, että nuoret lesket huolisivat, lapsia kasvattaisivat, huoneen hallituksesta vaaria pitäisivät, eikä antaisi tilaa vastaanseisojille pahoin puhua.
15 For already some have turned aside after Satan.
Sillä muutamat ovat jo saatanan jälkeen palanneet.
16 If any believing woman has widows, she must assist them, and do not let the church be burdened; that it might help those widows who are truly in need.
Jos nyt jollakin uskollisella miehellä eli vaimolla leskiä on, se heitä holhokoon ja älkään seurakuntaa rasittako, että oikeille leskille täytyis.
17 Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.
Vanhimmat, jotka hyvin hallitsevat, pitää kaksinkertaisessa kunniassa pidettämän, erinomattain ne, jotka sanassa ja opissa työtä tekevät.
18 For the Scripture says, "Do not muzzle the ox when it treads out the grain." And, "The laborer is worthy of his wages."
Sillä Raamattu sanoo: ei sinun pidä riihtä tappavan härjän suuta sitoman kiinni, ja työmies on palkkansa ansainnut.
19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder, except at the word of two or three witnesses.
Älä salli vanhinta vastaan yhtään kannetta, vaan kahden eli kolmen todistuksen kautta.
20 Those who sin, reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.
Nuhtele niitä, jotka syntiä tekevät, kaikkein kuullen, että muutkin pelkäisivät.
21 I command you in the sight of God, and Christ Jesus, and the chosen angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.
Minä rukoilen Jumalan ja Herran Jesuksen Kristuksen ja valittuin enkelien edessä, ettäs nämät pidät ilman valitsemista, ja älä mitään tee toisen puolta pitäin.
22 Do not ordain anyone hastily, nor participate in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.
Älä pikaisesti jonkun päälle käsiäs pane, ja älä ole muiden synneistä osallinen: pidä itses puhtaana.
23 Be no longer a drinker of water only, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities.
Älä silleen vettä juo, vaan nautitse jotakin viinaa sydämes tähden ja ettäs myös usein sairastat.
24 The sins of some people are obvious, going before them to judgment, but those of others show up later.
Muutamain ihmisten synnit ovat kyllä julkiset, että ne ennen tuomita taidetaan; mutta muutamain äsken jälistä julkiseksi tulevat.
25 In the same way also there are good works that are obvious, and those that are otherwise cannot be hidden.
Niin myös muutamat hyvät työt ovat jo ennen julkiset, ja ne mitkä muutoin tapahtuvat, ei taideta salattaa.
