< 1 Samuel 17 >

1 Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and camped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes Dammim.

10 The Philistine said, "I defy the armies of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together."

11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.

20 So David arose early in the morning and left the flock with a keeper and took and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the perimeter of the camp as the army was marching out to its battle formation and shouting the war cry.

23 As he talked with them, look, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words: and David heard them.

25 The men of Israel said, "Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. It shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house exempt in Israel."

28 Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, "Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your insolence and the wickedness of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle."
Ɛberɛ a Dawid nua panin Eliab tee sɛ ɔne mmarima no rekasa saa no, ne bo fuu no, na ɔbisaa sɛ, “Adɛn enti na woaba ha? Na nnwan kakra a wɔwɔ ɛserɛ so no, wode wɔn gyaa hwan? Menim sɛdeɛ wogye wo ho die ne sɛdeɛ wʼakomapirim teɛ. Ɔko yi hwɛ ara enti na wobaeɛ.”

33 Saul said to David, "You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth."

39 And David strapped on his sword over his uniform, and after he had tried once or twice to walk, then David said to Saul, "I can't walk with these, for I am not used to them." So they took them off him.
40 Then he took his staff in his hand and chose for himself five smooth stones from the wadi, and put them in the shepherd's bag, in the pouch. And his sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine.

42 When the Philistine looked and saw David, he despised him, for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and handsome in appearance.
Goliat hunuu Dawid no, ɔbuu no abomfiaa.
43 The Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with a stick and stones?" And David said, "No, worse than a dog." And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
Ɔworoo so kyerɛɛ Dawid sɛ, “Meyɛ ɔkraman na wode poma aba me so?” Na ɔkaa nʼanyame din ntam de domee Dawid.

Goliat woroo so sɛ, “Bra mʼanim ha, na mede wo ɛnam bɛma nnomaa ne nkekaboa.”
45 Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to you in the name of YHWH of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
Ɛnna Dawid nso teaam guu ne so sɛ, “Wode, akofena, pea ne bɛmma na ɛreba me so, na me deɛ, mede Awurade Otumfoɔ Israel akodɔm Onyankopɔn a woagu ne din ho fi no din na mede reba wo so.

48 It happened, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
Goliat yɛɛ sɛ ɔreba Dawid so no, ntɛm ara, na Dawid nso tuu mmirika kɔhyiaa no.
49 David put his hand in his bag, took a stone, and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.
