< 1 Samuel 13 >

1 Saul was ruling for less than a year, when he ruled during year two over Israel,
Saaʼol yeroo mootii taʼetti umuriin isaa waggaa soddoma ture; innis waggaa afurtamii lama Israaʼelin bulche.
2 that Saul chose for himself three thousand men of Israel, of which two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in the hill country of Bethel, and one thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. And the rest of the people he sent away, each to his own home.
Saaʼol namoota kuma sadii Israaʼel keessaa filate; kumni lama Mikmaasii fi biyya gaaraa Beetʼeelitti Saaʼol wajjin, kumni tokko immoo biyya Beniyaam keessatti Gibeʼaatti Yoonaataan wajjin turan. Namoota kaan garuu gara mana mana isaaniitti deebise.
3 Now Jonathan struck the garrison of the Philistines that was at Gibeah, and the Philistines heard of it. Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, "Let the Hebrews hear."
Yoonaataan qubata waraana Filisxeemotaa kan Gibeʼaa keessa ture sana dhaʼe; Filisxeemonnis waaʼee kanaa dhagaʼan. Kana irratti Saaʼol, “Ibroonni hundinuu haa dhagaʼani!” jedhee biyyattii guutuu keessatti malakata afuufsise.
4 All Israel heard that Saul had struck the garrison of the Philistines, and also that Israel had become repulsive to the Philistines. So the people were called out to join Saul at Gilgal.
Israaʼel hundinuus oduu, “Saaʼol qubata waraana Filisxeemotaa dhaʼeera; Israaʼelis Filisxeemota biratti balfameera” jedhu dhagaʼan. Namoonnis Saaʼol duukaa buʼuuf Gilgaalitti walitti qabaman.
5 The Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, and brought up against Israel three thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude: and they came up, and camped in Michmash, eastward of Beth Aven.
Filisxeemonnis Israaʼeloota waraanuuf gaariiwwan kuma soddoma, namoota gaarii oofan kuma jaʼaa fi loltoota akka cirracha galaanaa baayʼataniin hiriiran. Ol baʼaniis karaa baʼa Beet Aawwen iddoo Mikmaas jedhamu qubatan.
6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in trouble (for the people were in a difficult situation), then the people hid themselves in caves and thickets, among the rocks, and in pits and cisterns.
Namoonni Israaʼel yommuu akka haalli isaan keessa jiran sodaachisaa taʼee fi akka loltoonni isaanii sardamaa jiran arganitti holqa keessa, qoraattii keessa, kattaa keessa, bowwaa keessaa fi boolla keessa dhokatan.
7 Now some of the Hebrews had gone over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but as for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
Ibroonni tokko tokko immoo Yordaanos ceʼanii biyya Gaadii fi Giliʼaad dhaqan. Saaʼol garuu Gilgaalitti hafe; loltoonni isa wajjin turan hundinuus sodaadhaan hollachaa turan.
8 And he stayed seven days, according to the time that Samuel had said. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and the people began to abandon him.
Innis akkuma yeroo Saamuʼeel murteesse sanaatti bultii torba eege; Saamuʼeel garuu gara Gilgaal hin dhufne; namoonni Saaʼolis bibittinnaaʼuu jalqaban.
9 Saul said, "Bring here the burnt offering to me, and the peace offerings." He offered the burnt offering.
Saaʼolis, “Aarsaa gubamuu fi aarsaa nagaa as naa fidaa” jedhe. Innis aarsaa gubamu ni dhiʼeesse.
10 It came to pass that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, look, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him.
Akkuma Saaʼol aarsaa dhiʼeessee xumureen Saamuʼeel dhufe. Saaʼolis isa simachuuf gad baʼe.
11 Samuel said, "What have you done?" Saul said, "Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines assembled themselves together at Michmash;
Saamuʼeel, “Ati maal gochuu kee ti?” jedhee gaafate. Saaʼolis deebisee akkana jedhe; “Ani yeroon akka sabni bibittinnaaʼe, akka ati yeroo murteeffametti hin dhufinii fi akka Filisxeemonni Mikmaasitti walitti qabaman argetti,
12 therefore I said, 'Now the Philistines will come down on me to Gilgal, and I haven't entreated the favor of YHWH.' I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt offering."
‘Filisxeemonni Gilgaalitti natti dhufan; anis surraa Waaqayyoo hin kadhanne’ jedheen yaade. Kanaafuu aarsaa gubamu dhiʼeessuun dirqama natti taʼe.”
13 Samuel said to Saul, "You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of YHWH your God, which he commanded you; for now YHWH would have established your kingdom on Israel forever.
Saamuʼeelis akkana jedhe; “Ati waan siif hin malle hojjete; ajaja Waaqayyo Waaqni kee siif kenne hin eegne; utuu ajaja isaa eegdee jiraattee inni mootummaa kee Israaʼel irratti jabeessee bara baraan ni dhaaba ture.
14 But now your kingdom shall not continue. YHWH has sought for himself a man after his own heart, and YHWH has appointed him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept that which YHWH commanded you."
Amma garuu mootummaan kee jabaatee hin dhaabatu; Waaqayyo nama akka fedhii garaa isaa taʼe argateera; sababii ati ajaja Waaqayyoo hin eeginiif inni dura deemaa saba isaa godhatee isa muudateera.”
15 And Samuel arose and departed from Gilgal, and the rest of the people went up after Saul to meet him after the men of war, when they had come up from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people who were present with him, about six hundred men.
Ergasii Saamuʼeel Gilgaal dhiisee gara Gibeʼaa ishee biyya Beniyaam keessatti argamtuutti ol baʼe; Saaʼolis namoota isa wajjin turan ni lakkaaʼe. Baayʼinni isaaniis gara nama dhibba jaʼa ture.
16 Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people who were present with them, stayed in Geba of Benjamin: but the Philistines camped in Michmash.
Yeroo Filisxeemonni Mikmaas keessa qubatanii turanitti Saaʼol, ilmi isaa Yoonaataanii fi namoonni isaan wajjin turan biyya Beniyaam Gibeʼaa keessa turan.
17 The spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned to the way that leads to Ophrah, to the land of Shual;
Gareen weerartootaa iddoo sadiitti qoodamanii qubata Filisxeemotaatii baʼan. Gareen tokko gara Ofraa kan biyya Shuuʼaali keessa jiru sanaatti qajeele;
18 and another company turned the way to Beth Horon; and another company turned toward the border that overlooks the valley of Zeboim.
gareen lammaffaan karaa Beet Horoonitti, gareen sadaffaan immoo karaa daarii irraangadee Sulula Zebooʼiim kan fuullee gammoojjiitti geessu irra buʼe.
19 Now there was no blacksmith found throughout all the land of Israel; for the Philistines had said, "Otherwise the Hebrews will make swords or spears."
Sababii Filisxeemonni, “Ibroonni goraadee yookaan eeboo ofii isaaniitiif hin tumsiifatin!” jedhanii turaniif Israaʼel hunda keessatti namni sibiila tumu tokko iyyuu hin argamne.
20 But all Israel would go down to the Philistines, each to sharpen his plowshare, mattock, axe, and sickle;
Kanaafuu Israaʼeloonni hundi maarashaa isaanii, gasoo isaanii, dhagaraa fi haamtuu isaanii qarsiifachuuf gara Filisxeemotaatti gad buʼan.
21 and the charge was one payim for the plowshares and for the mattocks, and three shekels for picks and axes and to set the goads.
Gatiin ittiin maarashaa fi gasoo qarsiifatan saqilii tokko irraa harka sadii keessaa harka lama; qorbii, dhagaraa fi meeshaa ittiin qotiyyoo tuttuqan qarsiifachuuf immoo saqilii tokko irraa harka sadii keessaa harka tokko kaffalu turan.
22 So on the day of the battle of Michmash there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people who were with Saul and Jonathan; but Saul and his son Jonathan had them.
Kanaafuu guyyaa waraanaa Saaʼolii fi Yoonaataan malee loltuun tokko iyyuu goraadee yookaan eeboo hin qabu ture.
23 The garrison of the Philistines went out to the pass of Michmash.
Gaafuma sana gareen Filisxeemotaa tokko gara malkaa Mikmaasitti gad buʼe.
