Romans 9
1 I tell the truth in Christ. I am not lying, my conscience testifying with me in the Holy Spirit,
ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ അനുഗാമിയായ ഞാൻ വ്യാജമല്ല, സത്യമാണു സംസാരിക്കുന്നത്; എന്റെ മനസ്സാക്ഷിയും പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവും എനിക്കു സാക്ഷിയാണ്.
2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.
എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ വലിയ സങ്കടവും തീരാത്ത വേദനയുമുണ്ട് എന്നതു സത്യം.
3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brothers' sake, my physical relatives according to the flesh,
ഞാൻ സ്വയം ശാപഗ്രസ്തനായിത്തീർന്ന് ക്രിസ്തുവിനോടുള്ള ബന്ധത്തിൽനിന്ന് എന്നേക്കുമായി മാറ്റപ്പെടുന്നതിലൂടെ എന്റെ സഹോദരങ്ങളും സ്വന്തം വംശജരുമായ ഇസ്രായേൽജനത്തിനു പ്രയോജനം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നെങ്കിൽ ഞാൻ അതിനും സന്നദ്ധനാണ്.
4 who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service, and the promises;
ഇസ്രായേല്യരായ അവർ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പുത്രരായി ദത്തെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടവരാണ്; ദൈവികതേജസ്സ് അവർക്കു സ്വന്തം; അവരോടാണ് ദൈവം ഉടമ്പടികൾ ചെയ്തത്, അവർക്കാണ് ന്യായപ്രമാണം നൽകിത്; ദൈവാലയത്തിലെ ആരാധനയ്ക്കുള്ള പദവിയും വാഗ്ദാനങ്ങളും ദൈവം അവർക്കാണു നൽകിയത്.
5 of whom are the patriarchs, and from whom is the Christ, as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God, blessed forever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
ആദരണീയരായ ഗോത്രപിതാക്കന്മാരാണ് അവരുടെ പൂർവികർ. ക്രിസ്തു മനുഷ്യനായി ജന്മമെടുത്തതും അവരിൽനിന്നുതന്നെ. അവിടന്ന് സർവാധിപതിയായ ദൈവവും എന്നേക്കും വാഴ്ത്തപ്പെട്ടവനും! ആമേൻ. (aiōn g165)
6 But it is not as though the word of God has come to nothing. For they are not all Israel, that are of Israel.
ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വചനം പാഴായിപ്പോയെന്നല്ല. ഇസ്രായേല്യവംശത്തിൽ ജനിച്ചവരെല്ലാം യഥാർഥ ഇസ്രായേല്യർ ആകുന്നില്ല.
7 Neither, because they are Abraham's descendants, are they all children. But, "In Isaac will your descendants be called."
അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ കുലത്തിൽ ജനിച്ചു എന്ന കാരണത്താൽ അവരെല്ലാവരും അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ മക്കൾ ആകുന്നുമില്ല. പിന്നെയോ, “യിസ്ഹാക്കിൽനിന്നു ജനിക്കുന്നവൻ നിന്റെ സന്തതി എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടും” എന്നാണ് തിരുവെഴുത്തിൽ പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നത്.
8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as descendants.
അതായത്, അബ്രാഹാമിൽനിന്ന് ശാരീരികമായി ജനിച്ച മക്കളല്ല ദൈവത്തിന്റെമക്കൾ. പിന്നെയോ, വാഗ്ദാനപ്രകാരം ജനിച്ചവരാണ് അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ സന്തതികൾ എന്നു കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്.
9 For this is what the promise said, "At the appointed time I will come, and Sarah will have a son."
വാഗ്ദാനവചസ്സ് ഇപ്രകാരമാണ് നൽകപ്പെട്ടത്: “നിശ്ചിതസമയത്തു ഞാൻ മടങ്ങിവരും; അപ്പോൾ സാറയ്ക്ക് ഒരു മകൻ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും.”
10 And not only that, but Rebekah also had conceived by one, our father Isaac.
ഈ മകനാണ് നമ്മുടെ പിതാവായ യിസ്ഹാക്ക്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽനിന്ന് റിബേക്ക ഗർഭവതിയായി.
11 For being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him who calls,
അവൾക്ക് ഇരട്ട ശിശുക്കൾ ജനിക്കുന്നതിനും അവർ ഗുണമോ ദോഷമോ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നതിനും മുമ്പുതന്നെ, “മൂത്തവൻ ഇളയവനെ സേവിക്കും” എന്നു ദൈവം റിബേക്കയോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു. ഈ ആഹ്വാനം നൽകുന്ന ദൈവം അവിടത്തെ ഹിതം നിറവേറ്റാൻ തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നു. അതു പ്രവൃത്തികളുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലല്ല എന്നു പ്രകടമാക്കേണ്ടതിനാണ് ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുന്നത്.
12 it was said to her, "The elder will serve the younger."
13 Even as it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."
“യാക്കോബിനെ ഞാൻ സ്നേഹിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ ഏശാവിനെ ഞാൻ വെറുത്തു” എന്ന് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നല്ലോ.
14 What should we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Absolutely not.
അപ്പോൾ നാം എന്തുപറയും? ദൈവം അനീതിയുള്ളവൻ എന്നാണോ? ഒരിക്കലുമല്ല!
15 For he said to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."
“കൃപ ചെയ്യാൻ എനിക്കു മനസ്സുള്ളവരോടു ഞാൻ കൃപ ചെയ്യും. കരുണകാണിക്കാൻ എനിക്കു മനസ്സുള്ളവരോടു ഞാൻ കരുണകാണിക്കും,” എന്നു ദൈവം മോശയോടും അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.
16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who has mercy.
ഇങ്ങനെ, മനുഷ്യന്റെ ആഗ്രഹമോ കഠിനാധ്വാനമോ അല്ല, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കാരുണ്യമാണ് എല്ലാറ്റിനും അടിസ്ഥാനം.
17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I caused you to be raised up, that I might show in you my power, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."
“എന്റെ ശക്തി നിന്നിലൂടെ പ്രദർശിപ്പിക്കുകയും എന്റെ നാമം ഭൂമിയിലെല്ലായിടത്തും ഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുകയും വേണം എന്ന ഉദ്ദേശ്യത്തിനായിത്തന്നെ ഞാൻ നിന്നെ ഉയർത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു,” എന്ന് ഫറവോനോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നതു തിരുവെഴുത്തിൽ കാണുന്നു.
18 So then, he has mercy on whom he desires, and he hardens whom he desires.
ഇങ്ങനെ, ദൈവം തന്റെ ഇഷ്ടപ്രകാരം ഒരുവനോടു കരുണ കാണിക്കുന്നു; മറ്റൊരുവനെ കഠിനഹൃദയനാക്കുന്നു.
19 You will say then to me, "Why does he still find fault? For who withstands his will?"
അപ്പോൾ, “നമ്മെ കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്താൻ ദൈവത്തിനെങ്ങനെ കഴിയും? കാരണം, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ തിരുഹിതത്തോട് എതിർക്കാൻ ആർക്കാണു സാധിക്കുക?” എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ എന്നോടു ചോദിച്ചേക്കാം.
20 But who indeed are you, a human being, to reply against God? Will the thing formed ask him who formed it, "Why did you make me like this?"
അല്ലയോ മനുഷ്യാ, “ദൈവത്തോട് എതിർവാദം പറയാൻ നീ ആരാണ്?” സ്രഷ്ടാവിനോട്, “‘നീ എന്നെ ഇങ്ങനെ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചത് എന്തിനാണ്?’ എന്നു സൃഷ്ടിക്കു ചോദിക്കാൻ കഴിയുമോ?”
21 Or hasn't the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel for honor, and another for dishonor?
ഒരേ കളിമണ്ണുപയോഗിച്ച് ചില പാത്രങ്ങൾ ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായ ഉപയോഗത്തിനും മറ്റുചിലതു സാധാരണ ഉപയോഗത്തിനുംവേണ്ടി ഉണ്ടാക്കാൻ കുശവന് അധികാരമില്ലേ?
22 What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath made for destruction,
ദൈവം തന്റെ കോപം പ്രദർശിപ്പിക്കാനും ശക്തി വെളിപ്പെടുത്താനുമുള്ള ഉദ്ദേശ്യത്തോടെ, നാശത്തിനുമാത്രമായി ഒരുക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന കോപപാത്രങ്ങളായവരെ ദീർഘക്ഷമയോടെ സഹിച്ചു;
23 and that he might make known the riches of his glory on vessels of mercy, which he prepared beforehand for glory,
ഇങ്ങനെ തേജസ്സു പ്രാപിക്കാനായി ദൈവം മുൻകൂട്ടി ഒരുക്കിയ കരുണാപാത്രങ്ങളാണു നാം. അവിടത്തെ മഹത്ത്വസമ്പന്നത വെളിപ്പെടുത്താൻവേണ്ടി ദൈവം നമ്മിൽ ഇപ്രകാരം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു എന്നതിൽ നമുക്ക് എന്താണ് പറയാൻ കഴിയുക?
24 us, whom he also called, not from the Jews only, but also from the non-Jews?
യെഹൂദരിൽനിന്നുമാത്രമല്ല, യെഹൂദേതരരിൽനിന്നും വിളിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരായ നാം എല്ലാവരും ആ കരുണാപാത്രങ്ങളാണ്.
25 As he says also in Hosea, "I will call them which were not my people 'my people,' and her who was not loved, 'loved.'"
ഹോശേയയുടെ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ ദൈവം ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: “എന്റെ ജനം അല്ലാത്തവരെ ‘എന്റെ ജനം,’ എന്നും ‘എന്റെ പ്രിയ’ അല്ലാത്തവളെ ‘എന്റെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ടവൾ,’ എന്നും ഞാൻ വിളിക്കും.”
26 "It will be that in the place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' There they will be called 'children of the living God.'"
വീണ്ടും, “‘നിങ്ങൾ എന്റെ ജനമല്ല,’ എന്ന് അവരോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത എല്ലായിടത്തും, അവർ ‘ജീവനുള്ള ദൈവത്തിന്റെമക്കൾ’ എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടും”
27 And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, "Though the number of the children of Israel are as the sand of the sea, the remnant will be kept safe.
യെശയ്യാവ് ഇസ്രായേല്യരെക്കുറിച്ചു വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നു: “ഇസ്രായേല്യർ കടൽപ്പുറത്തെ മണൽത്തരിപോലെ അസംഖ്യമെങ്കിലും, അവരിൽ ഒരു ശേഷിപ്പുമാത്രമേ രക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടുകയുള്ളൂ.
28 For he will fulfill the word and decisively in righteousness; because the Lord will carry out the word decisively in the midst of the earth."
കർത്താവ് അതിവേഗത്തിലും കൃതകൃത്യതയോടും ഭൂമിയിൽ ന്യായവിധി നിർവഹിക്കും.”
29 As Isaiah has said before, "Unless the Lord of hosts had left us a few survivors, we would have become like Sodom, and would have been made like Gomorrah."
“സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ കർത്താവ് നമ്മുടെ തലമുറയിൽ ചിലരെയെങ്കിലും ശേഷിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ, നാം സൊദോം നഗരംപോലെയും ഗൊമോറാ പട്ടണംപോലെയും നശിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുമായിരുന്നു,” എന്ന് യെശയ്യാവ് മുൻകൂട്ടിത്തന്നെ പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നല്ലോ!
30 What should we say then? That the non-Jews, who did not follow after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith;
ഇതെല്ലാം എന്താണ് അർഥമാക്കുന്നത്? യഥാർഥത്തിൽ ദൈവികനീതി അന്വേഷിക്കാതിരുന്നവരായ ഇസ്രായേല്യേതരർക്കാണ് ആ നീതി ലഭിച്ചത്. അതു വിശ്വാസത്താലുള്ള നീതിതന്നെ.
31 but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law.
എന്നാൽ, ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിലൂടെ നീതി ലഭിക്കാൻ പരിശ്രമിച്ചവരായ ഇസ്രായേല്യർക്കാകട്ടെ, അതു ലഭിച്ചതുമില്ല.
32 Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone;
എന്തുകൊണ്ടാണ് അവർക്കതു ലഭിക്കാതിരുന്നത്? വിശ്വാസത്തിലൂടെയല്ല, പ്രവൃത്തികളാൽ സാധിക്കുമെന്നു വിചാരിച്ച് നീതിയെ അന്വേഷിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടാണ് അവർ ഇടർച്ചക്കല്ലിൽ തട്ടിവീണത്.
33 even as it is written, "Look, I am laying in Zion a stumbling stone and a rock to trip over; and the one who believes in him will not be put to shame."
“ഇതാ, ഞാൻ സീയോനിൽ, കാലിടറിക്കുന്ന കല്ലും നിലംപരിചാക്കുന്ന പാറയും വെക്കുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന ആരും ഒരിക്കലും ലജ്ജിതരാകുകയില്ല,” എന്ന് എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.
