< Psalms 19 >

1 [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork.
Himnarnir sýna okkur dýrð Guðs. Þeir eru þögull vitnisburður um mikilleik verka hans.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech, and night after night they display knowledge.
Dagur og nótt vitna um vísdóm Drottins.
3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
Hljóðlaust og án orða bera þau boðin um gervalla jörðina.
4 Their voice has gone out to all the earth, their words to the farthest part of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun,
Sólin fer sína braut um loftin – einmitt þá sem Drottinn setti henni í upphafi.
5 which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a strong man rejoicing to run his course.
Hnarreist siglir hún yfir hvolfið, geislandi eins og brúður í brúðkaupi eða hlaupari sem hlakkar til að renna sitt skeið.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heavens, his circuit to its ends; There is nothing hidden from its heat.
Sólin fer um himininn frá austri til vesturs, ekkert fær dulist við geislaflóð hennar og yl.
7 The LORD's Law is perfect, restoring the soul. The LORD's testimony is sure, making wise the simple.
Lög Guðs eru fullkomin.
8 The LORD's precepts are right, rejoicing the heart. The LORD's commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Þau vernda og auka skilning, gleðja og lýsa.
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever. The LORD's ordinances are true, and righteous altogether.
Lög Guðs eru eilíf, réttlát og hrein.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the extract of the honeycomb.
Þau eru dýrmætari en gull. Þau eru sætari en hunang.
11 Moreover by them is your servant warned. In keeping them there is great reward.
Því að þau vara okkur við hættum og efla velgengni þeirra sem hlýða þeim.
12 Who can discern his errors? Forgive me from hidden errors.
Hver verður var við syndina sem loðir við hjarta mitt? Hreinsa mig af leyndum syndum.
13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins. Let them not have dominion over me. Then I will be upright. I will be blameless and innocent of great transgression.
Forða mér frá vondum mönnum, og stöðva hönd mína að ég geri ekkert ljótt. Sýknaðu mig af syndum mínum svo að ég lifi hreinu lífi.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight always, LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
Ó, að orðin á vörum mér og hugsanir mínar geðjist þér, þú Guð, klettur minn og frelsari.
