< Proverbs 20 >
1 Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
Ẹlẹ́yà ni ọtí wáìnì, aláriwo sì ní ọtí líle; ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá fi tànjẹ kò gbọ́n.
2 The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
Ìbẹ̀rù ọba dàbí kíké e kìnnìún; ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá mú un bínú ba ayé ara rẹ̀ jẹ́.
3 It is an honor for a person to keep away from strife, but every fool quarrels.
Iyì ni ó jẹ́ fún ènìyàn láti sá fún ìjà, ṣùgbọ́n gbogbo aláìgbọ́n a máa tètè wá ìjà.
4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
Ọ̀lẹ kì í ṣiṣẹ́ oko nígbà tí ó yẹ, nítorí náà ní àsìkò ìkórè, yóò wá kò sì ní rì nǹkan.
5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
Ète ọkàn ènìyàn dàbí omi jíjìn; ṣùgbọ́n ènìyàn olóye á wá wọn jáde.
6 Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?
Ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ènìyàn ni wọ́n máa ń sọ pe àwọn ní ìfẹ́ àìṣẹ̀tàn, ṣùgbọ́n kò rọrùn láti rí ènìyàn olóòtítọ́.
7 A righteous man walks in integrity; blessed are his children after him.
Olódodo ènìyàn a máa gbé ìgbé ayé àìlábùkù ìbùkún ni fún àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀ lẹ́yìn rẹ̀.
8 A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.
Nígbà tí ọba bá jókòó sórí ìtẹ́ rẹ̀ láti ṣe ìdájọ́ yóò fẹ́ gbogbo ibi dànù pẹ̀lú ojú rẹ̀.
9 Who can say, "I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin?"
Ta ni ó le è wí pé, “Mo ti ṣe ọkàn mi ní mímọ́, mo mọ́, n kò sì lẹ́ṣẹ̀”?
10 Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
Ìwọ̀n èké àti òsùwọ̀n ìrẹ́jẹ Olúwa kórìíra méjèèjì.
11 Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.
Kódà a mọ ọmọdé nípa iṣẹ́ rẹ̀ nípa pe bóyá iṣẹ́ rẹ mọ́ tàbí pé ó tọ̀nà.
12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, The LORD has made even both of them.
Etí tí ó ń gbọ́ àti ojú tí ó ń ríran Olúwa ni ó dá méjèèjì.
13 Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty. Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.
Má ṣe fẹ́ràn oorun, àìṣe bẹ́ẹ̀ ìwọ yóò di tálákà. Ma ṣe sùn ìwọ yóò sì ní oúnjẹ láti tún fi tọrọ.
14 "It's no good, it's no good," says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.
“Kò dára, kò dára!” ní ẹni tó ra ọjà máa ń wí; nígbà tí ó bá kúrò níbẹ̀ tán, yóò máa yangàn bí òun tí ṣe rí rà sí.
15 There is gold and abundance of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel.
Wúrà wà, iyùn sì wà rẹpẹtẹ, ṣùgbọ́n, ahọ́n tí ń sọ ìmọ̀ gan an ni ọ̀ṣọ́ iyebíye.
16 Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman.
Gba abọ́ ẹni tí ó ṣe onídùúró fún àlejò; mú un lọ́wọ́ bí ìbúra bí ó bá ṣe é fún obìnrin onírìnkurìn.
17 Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.
Oúnjẹ tí a fi ọ̀nà èrú rí máa ń dùn lẹ́nu ènìyàn, ṣùgbọ́n, a yọrí sí ibi ẹnu tí ó kún fún erùpẹ̀.
18 Plans are established by advice; by wise guidance you wage war.
Pa ètè rẹ mọ́ nípa wíwá ìmọ̀ràn bí o bá ń jagun, gba ìtọ́sọ́nà.
19 He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; therefore do not keep company with him who opens wide his lips.
Olófòófó a máa tú àṣírí nítorí náà yẹra fún ènìyàn tí ń rojọ́ púpọ̀.
20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.
Bí ènìyàn kan bá ṣépè fún baba tàbí ìyá rẹ̀, ìmọ́lẹ̀ rẹ̀ ni a ó pa kú nínú òkùnkùn biribiri.
21 An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning, won't be blessed in the end.
Ogún tí a kójọ kíákíá ní ìbẹ̀rẹ̀ kì yóò ní ìbùkún ní ìgbẹ̀yìn gbẹ́yín.
22 Do not say, "I will pay back evil." Wait for the LORD, and he will save you.
Má ṣe wí pé, “N ó sẹ̀san àṣìṣe rẹ yìí fún ọ.” Dúró de Olúwa yóò sì gbà ọ́ là.
23 The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are no good.
Olúwa kórìíra òdínwọ̀n èké. Òsùwọ̀n ìrẹ́jẹ kò sì tẹ́ ẹ lọ́rùn.
24 A man's steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way?
Olúwa ni ó ń ṣe olùdarí ìgbésẹ̀ ènìyàn. Báwo wá ni òye gbogbo ọ̀nà ènìyàn ṣe le yé ni?
25 It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
Ìdẹ̀kùn ni fún ènìyàn láti ṣe ìlérí kíákíá nígbà tí ó bá sì yá kí ó máa ro ẹ̀jẹ̀ rẹ̀ wò.
26 A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.
Ọlọ́gbọ́n ọba tú ènìyàn búburú ká; Ó sì fi òòlọ ìpakà lọ̀ wọ́n.
27 The spirit of man is the LORD's lamp, searching all his innermost parts.
Àtùpà Olúwa ń ṣe àwárí ẹ̀mí ènìyàn a máa ṣàwárí ibi ìkọ̀kọ̀ inú.
28 Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.
Ìfẹ́ àti òdodo pa ọba mọ́, nípa ìfẹ́, ìtẹ́ rẹ̀ wà láìléwu.
29 The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair.
Ògo àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin ni agbára wọn, ewú orí ni iyì arúgbó.
30 Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.
Ìgbájú ìgbámú àti ìfarapa máa ń mú ibi lọ, pàṣán sì máa ń ṣe àfọ̀mọ́ ibi ìkọ̀kọ̀ inú.
