Proverbs 20
1 Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
Wino [jest] szydercą, mocny trunek – wrzaskliwy, a każdy, kto zostaje zwiedziony przez nie, jest niemądry.
2 The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
Strach, [który budzi] król, jest jak ryk lwa; kto go rozgniewa, grzeszy przeciwko swojej duszy.
3 It is an honor for a person to keep away from strife, but every fool quarrels.
Zaprzestać sporu jest zaszczytem dla człowieka, ale [każdy] głupiec się w niego wdaje.
4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
Leniwy nie orze z powodu zimna; dlatego będzie żebrać we żniwa, ale nic nie [otrzyma].
5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
Rada w sercu człowieka jest jak głęboka woda, lecz człowiek roztropny zaczerpnie jej.
6 Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?
Większość ludzi przechwala się swoją dobrocią, ale wiernego człowieka któż znajdzie?
7 A righteous man walks in integrity; blessed are his children after him.
Sprawiedliwy postępuje uczciwie, błogosławione [są] po nim jego dzieci.
8 A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.
Król siedzący na swoim sędziowskim tronie rozprasza swoimi oczami wszelkie zło.
9 Who can say, "I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin?"
Któż może powiedzieć: Oczyściłem swoje serce, jestem czysty od swego grzechu?
10 Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
Dwojakie odważniki i dwojaka miara – obydwa budzą odrazę w PANU.
11 Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.
Nawet dziecko poznaje się po uczynkach, czy jego czyn jest czysty i prawy.
12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, The LORD has made even both of them.
Ucho, które słyszy, i oko, które widzi, oba uczynił PAN.
13 Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty. Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.
Nie kochaj spania, byś nie zubożał; otwórz oczy, a nasycisz się chlebem.
14 "It's no good, it's no good," says the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.
[To] liche, [to] liche, mówi kupujący, ale chwali się, gdy odchodzi.
15 There is gold and abundance of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel.
Istnieje złoto i obfitość pereł, ale wargi rozumne są kosztownym klejnotem.
16 Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman.
Zabierz szatę tego, [który ręczył] za obcego, a od tego, [który ręczył] za cudzą kobietę, zabierz zastaw.
17 Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.
Chleb oszustwa smakuje człowiekowi, ale potem jego usta będą napełnione piaskiem.
18 Plans are established by advice; by wise guidance you wage war.
Zamysły są utwierdzone dzięki radzie, a wojnę prowadź z rozwagą.
19 He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; therefore do not keep company with him who opens wide his lips.
Plotkarz zdradza tajemnice; dlatego nie zadawaj się z tym, który pochlebia wargami.
20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.
Kto złorzeczy swemu ojcu albo matce, tego pochodnia zgaśnie w gęstych ciemnościach.
21 An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning, won't be blessed in the end.
Dziedzictwo prędko nabyte na początku nie będzie błogosławione na końcu.
22 Do not say, "I will pay back evil." Wait for the LORD, and he will save you.
Nie mów: Odpłacę złem. Czekaj na PANA, a wybawi cię.
23 The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are no good.
Dwojakie odważniki budzą odrazę w PANU, a fałszywa waga nie jest dobra.
24 A man's steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way?
Od PANA pochodzą drogi człowieka; jakże może człowiek zrozumieć własną drogę?
25 It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
Sidłem dla człowieka jest pożreć to, co święte, i zastanowić się dopiero po złożeniu ślubów.
26 A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.
Mądry król rozprasza niegodziwych i wywiera na nich zemstę.
27 The spirit of man is the LORD's lamp, searching all his innermost parts.
Duch człowieka [jest] pochodnią PANA, [która] bada wszystkie skrytości wnętrza.
28 Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.
Miłosierdzie i prawda strzegą króla, a jego tron oparty jest na miłosierdziu.
29 The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair.
Chlubą młodzieńców jest ich siła, a ozdobą starców – sędziwość.
30 Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.
Siność ran oczyszcza zło, a razy – głębię wnętrza.
