< Proverbs 19 >
1 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.
Nĩ kaba mũndũ mũthĩĩni ũrĩa ũthiiaga na mĩthiĩre ĩtarĩ ũcuuke, gũkĩra mũndũ mũkĩĩgu waragia waganu.
2 It isn't good to have zeal without knowledge; nor being hasty with one's feet and missing the way.
Ti wega kũgĩa na kĩyo hatarĩ na ũmenyo, ningĩ kũhĩkĩka mũno gũtũmaga mũndũ ahĩtie njĩra.
3 The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against the LORD.
Ũrimũ wa mũndũ nĩguo wanangaga muoyo wake, nayo ngoro yake ĩtetagia Jehova.
4 Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend.
Ũtonga nĩwongagĩrĩra mũndũ arata aingĩ, no mũndũ mũthĩĩni nĩeheragĩrwo nĩ mũratawe.
5 A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.
Mũira wa maheeni ndakaaga kũherithio, na ũrĩa ũitũrũraga maheeni ndageethara.
6 Many will seek the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.
Andũ aingĩ macaragia ũrĩa mangĩendwo nĩ mũnene, na mũndũ mũheani iheo-rĩ, nĩ mũrata wa andũ othe.
7 All the relatives of the poor shun him: how much more do his friends avoid him. He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.
Angĩkorwo mũndũ mũthĩĩni nĩatiganagio nĩ andũ ao othe-rĩ, ĩ nao arata ake mangĩkĩmwĩtheema atĩa! O na angĩmathingata akĩmathaithaga, nĩmethiĩrĩire, matirĩ ho.
8 He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.
Mũndũ ũrĩa wĩgĩĩagĩra na ũũgĩ nĩ ngoro yake mwene endete; ũrĩa ũkenagĩra ũtaũku nĩagaacagĩra.
9 A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.
Mũira wa maheeni ndakaaga kũherithio, na ũrĩa ũitũrũraga maheeni nĩakoorwo nĩ muoyo.
10 Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
Gũtiagĩrĩire mũndũ mũkĩĩgu gũikaraga egangarĩte; gũkĩrĩ ũũru makĩria ngombo gwatha anene!
11 The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.
Ũũgĩ wa mũndũ nĩũmũheaga ũkirĩrĩria, riiri wake nĩkũrekera andũ arĩa angĩ mahĩtia mao.
12 The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
Marakara ma mũthamaki nĩ ta mũraramo wa mũrũũthi, no ũtugi wake nĩ ta ime rĩrĩ nyeki-inĩ.
13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife's quarrels are a continual dripping.
Mwana mũkĩĩgu nĩ mwanangĩko harĩ ithe, na mũtumia wa haaro ahaana ta maaĩ maratata mategũtigithĩria.
14 House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
Nyũmba na ũtonga igayagwo kuuma kũrĩ aciari, no mũtumia mũbaarĩrĩri maũndũ oimaga kũrĩ Jehova.
15 Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.
Ũgũũta ũrehaga toro mũnene, na mũndũ gĩthayo arĩĩagwo nĩ ngʼaragu.
16 He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.
Mũndũ ũrĩa wathĩkagĩra maathani-rĩ, nĩ muoyo wake amenyagĩrĩra, no ũrĩa ũtoonaga bata wa kũmenyerera mĩthiĩre yake nĩagaakua.
17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD; he will reward him.
Mũndũ ũrĩa ũiguagĩra athĩĩni tha nĩ Jehova akombagĩra indo, nake Jehova nĩakamũrĩha nĩ ũndũ wa ũrĩa ekĩte.
18 Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death.
Rũithagia mũrũguo hĩndĩ ĩrĩa kũrĩ na kĩĩrĩgĩrĩro; tiga kwenda gũtũma akooragwo.
19 A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again.
Mũndũ wa marakara mahiũ no nginya aherithio; ũngĩmũteithũra rĩmwe no nginya ũkaamũteithũra rĩngĩ.
20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.
Thikĩrĩria mataaro na wĩtĩkĩre ũrutani, marigĩrĩrio-inĩ nĩũgaatuĩka mũndũ mũũgĩ.
21 There are many plans in a man's heart, but the LORD's counsel will prevail.
Mĩbango ya ngoro ya mũndũ nĩ mĩingĩ, no muoroto wa Jehova noguo ũkaahinga.
22 That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar.
Kĩrĩa mũndũ eriragĩria nĩ wendo ũrĩa ũtathiraga, nĩ kaba gũthĩĩna gũkĩra mũndũ wa maheeni.
23 The fear of the LORD leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble.
Gwĩtigĩra Jehova gũkinyagia mũndũ muoyo-inĩ: Hĩndĩ ĩyo mũndũ akahurũka aiganĩire, atarĩ na thĩĩna.
24 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
Kĩgũũta kĩrikagia guoko gwakĩo thaani-inĩ; gĩgakĩremwo o na nĩgũgũcookia kanua!
25 Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.
Hũũra mũnyũrũrania, nao arĩa mateciiragia merute kũgĩa na ũbaarĩrĩri; kaania mũkũũrani maũndũ, na nĩekuongerera ũmenyo.
26 He who robs his father and drives away his mother, is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.
Mũndũ ũrĩa ũtunyaga ithe indo na akaingata nyina, nĩ mwana wa kũrehe thoni na gĩconoko.
27 If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
Mũrũ wakwa, ũngĩtiga gũthikĩrĩria mataaro-rĩ, nĩũkoora njĩra ũtigane na ciugo cia ũmenyo.
28 A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.
Mũira wa kũhakwo anyũrũragia kĩhooto, na kanua ka mũndũ mwaganu kameragia o ũũru.
29 Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
Maherithia maigĩirwo anyũrũrania, nacio iboko ikaigĩrwo mĩgongo ya andũ arĩa akĩĩgu.
