< Matthew 1 >

1 A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judah and his brothers;

And Judah begat Phares and Zara from Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;

and Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
6 and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah;
and Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her who was the wife of Uriah;
7 and Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asa;
and Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
8 and Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah,
and Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; Joram begat Hozias;
9 and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah;
Hozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; Achaz begat Hezekiah;
10 and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amon, and Amon the father of Josiah,
and Hezekiah begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josiah;
11 and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon.
and Josiah begat Jechonias and his brothers in the captivity of Babylon.
12 And after the exile to Babylon, Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
And after the captivity of Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorababbel;
13 and Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, and Abihud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azzur,
Zorababbel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
14 and Azzur the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Ahiam, and Ahiam the father of Elihud,

and Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus, who is called the Christ.
and Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, from whom Jesus, who is called Christ, was born.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the exile to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the exile to Babylon to the Christ, fourteen generations.
Therefore all the generations from Abraham unto David are fourteen generations; from David unto the captivity of Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the captivity of Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened like this. His mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, and before they came together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
The birth of Jesus Christ was thus: His mother Mary, having been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, was found having gestation from the Holy Ghost.
19 And Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly.
And Joseph her husband, being righteous and not wishing to expose her publicly, determined to send her away secretly.
20 But when he thought about these things, look, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
And he meditating on these things, behold an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying; Joseph, son of David, do not fear to receive Mary thy wife; for that which is begotten in her is of the Holy Spirit;
21 And she will bring forth a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."
she shall bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for He will save His people from their sins.
22 Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,
And all this took place in order that the Word, having been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, might be fulfilled, saying;
23 "Look, the virgin will conceive and bear a son, and they will call his name Immanuel;" which is translated, "God with us."
Behold, the virgin shall have gestation and bring forth a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel, which is interpreted, God is with us.
24 And Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife to himself;
And Joseph rising from sleep did as the angel of the Lord commanded him;
25 and had no marital relations with her until she had brought forth a son; and he named him Jesus.
and he took his wife to himself, and did not know her until she brought forth a son, and called his name Jesus.
