Matthew 3
1 And in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea
Y en aquellos días vino Juan el Bautista, predicando en el desierto de Judea,
2 and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."
Y diciendo: Arrepentíos; que el reino de los cielos se acerca.
3 For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, "The voice of one who calls out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his roads straight.'"
Porque éste es aquel del cual fue dicho por el profeta Isaías, que dijo: Voz del que clama en el desierto: Aparejád el camino del Señor: enderezád sus veredas.
4 Now John himself wore clothing made of camel's hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
Y tenía Juan su vestido de pelos de camellos, y una cinta de cuero al rededor de sus lomos; y su comida era langostas, y miel montés.
5 Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him,
Entonces salía a él Jerusalem, y toda Judea, y toda la provincia de al derredor del Jordán,
6 and they were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.
Y eran bautizados por él en el Jordán, confesando sus pecados.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism he said to them, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Y viendo él muchos de los Fariseos y de los Saduceos, que venían a su bautismo, les decía: Generación de víboras, ¿quién os ha enseñado a huir de la ira que vendrá?
8 Therefore bring forth fruit worthy of repentance,
Hacéd pues frutos dignos de arrepentimiento.
9 and do not think to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father,' for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
Y no penséis en deciros: A Abraham tenemos por padre; porque yo os digo, que puede Dios despertar hijos a Abraham aun de estas piedras.
10 "Even now the axe lies at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
Ahora, ya también la hacha está puesta a la raíz de los árboles; y todo árbol que no hace buen fruto, es cortado, y echado en el fuego.
11 I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Yo a la verdad os bautizo en agua para arrepentimiento; mas el que viene en pos de mí, más poderoso es que yo; los zapatos del cual yo no soy digno de llevar; él os bautizará con Espíritu Santo y fuego.
12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire."
Su aventador está en su mano, y aventará su era, y allegará su trigo en el alfolí, y quemará la paja en fuego que nunca se apagará.
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
Entonces Jesús vino de Galilea a Juan al Jordán, para ser bautizado por él.
14 But John would have hindered him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?"
Mas Juan le resistía mucho, diciendo: Yo he menester de ser bautizado por ti, ¿y tú vienes a mí?
15 But Jesus, answering, said to him, "Allow it to happen now, for this is the proper way for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed him.
Empero respondiendo Jesús le dijo: Deja ahora; porque así nos conviene cumplir toda justicia. Entonces le dejó.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water; and look, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
Y Jesús después que fue bautizado, subió luego del agua, y, he aquí, los cielos le fueron abiertos, y vio al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como paloma, y venía sobre él;
17 And look, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
Y, he aquí, una voz de los cielos que decía: Este es mi hijo amado, en el cual tengo contentamiento.
