Matthew 20
1 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.
“Porque el Reino de los Cielos es semejante a un hombre, dueño de una casa, que salió de madrugada a contratar obreros para su viña.
2 When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
Cuando se puso de acuerdo con los obreros por un denario al día, los envió a su viña.
3 He went out about nine in the morning, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace.
Salió a eso de la tercera hora, y vio a otros que estaban ociosos en la plaza.
4 To them he said, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went their way.
Les dijo: “Id también vosotros a la viña, y os daré lo que sea justo. Y ellos se fueron.
5 Again he went out about noon and at three in the afternoon, and did likewise.
Volvió a salir hacia la hora sexta y la novena, e hizo lo mismo.
6 About five that afternoon he went out, and found others standing. He said to them, 'Why do you stand here all day idle?'
A la hora undécima salió y encontró a otros que estaban parados. Les dijo: “¿Por qué estáis aquí todo el día sin hacer nada?
7 "They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' "He said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard.'
“Le dijeron: ‘Porque nadie nos ha contratado’. “Les dijo: ‘Id también vosotros a la viña, y recibiréis lo que sea justo’.
8 When evening had come, the lord of the vineyard said to his manager, 'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning from the last to the first.'
“Cuando llegó la noche, el señor de la viña dijo a su administrador: “Llama a los obreros y págales su salario, empezando por los últimos hasta los primeros”.
9 "When those who were hired at about five in the afternoon came, they each received a denarius.
“Cuando llegaron los que habían sido contratados hacia la hora undécima, recibieron un denario cada uno.
10 When the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise each received a denarius.
Cuando llegaron los primeros, supusieron que iban a recibir más; y también ellos recibieron cada uno un denario.
11 When they received it, they murmured against the master of the household,
Cuando lo recibieron, murmuraron contra el dueño de la casa,
12 saying, 'These last have spent one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.'
diciendo: ‘¡Estos últimos han gastado una hora, y los has hecho iguales a nosotros, que hemos soportado la carga del día y el calor abrasador!’
13 "But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?
“Pero él respondió a uno de ellos: ‘Amigo, no te hago ningún mal. ¿No te has puesto de acuerdo conmigo por un denario?
14 Take that which is yours, and go your way. It is my desire to give to this last just as much as to you.
Toma lo que es tuyo y sigue tu camino. Es mi deseo dar a este último tanto como a ti.
15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I want to with what I own? Or is your eye evil, because I am good?'
¿No me es lícito hacer lo que quiero con lo que poseo? ¿O acaso tu ojo es malicioso, porque yo soy bueno?’
16 So the last will be first, and the first last; for many are called, but few are chosen."
Así, los últimos serán los primeros, y los primeros los últimos. Porque muchos son los llamados, pero pocos los elegidos”.
17 As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the Twelve aside, and on the way he said to them,
Mientras Jesús subía a Jerusalén, tomó aparte a los doce discípulos, y en el camino les dijo:
18 "Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death,
“He aquí que subimos a Jerusalén, y el Hijo del Hombre será entregado a los sumos sacerdotes y a los escribas, y lo condenarán a muerte,
19 and will hand him over to the non-Jews to mock, to scourge, and to crucify; and the third day he will be raised up."
y lo entregarán a los gentiles para que lo escarnezcan, lo azoten y lo crucifiquen; y al tercer día resucitará.”
20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, kneeling and asking a certain thing of him.
Entonces la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo se acercó a él con sus hijos, arrodillándose y pidiéndole una cosa.
21 He said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Command that these, my two sons, may sit, one on your right hand, and one on your left hand, in your Kingdom."
Él le dijo: “¿Qué quieres?” Ella le dijo: “Ordena que estos dos hijos míos se sienten, uno a tu derecha y otro a tu izquierda, en tu Reino”.
22 But Jesus answered and said, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?" They said to him, "We are able."
Pero Jesús respondió: “No sabes lo que pides. ¿Eres capaz de beber el cáliz que yo voy a beber, y ser bautizado con el bautismo con el que yo soy bautizado?” Le dijeron: “Podemos”.
23 He said to them, "You will indeed drink my cup, but to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it is for whom it has been prepared by my Father."
Les dijo: “Ciertamente, beberéis mi copa y seréis bautizados con el bautismo con el que yo soy bautizado; pero sentarse a mi derecha y a mi izquierda no me corresponde a mí, sino a quien ha sido preparado por mi Padre.”
24 When the ten heard it, they were indignant with the two brothers.
Cuando los diez lo oyeron, se indignaron con los dos hermanos.
25 But Jesus summoned them, and said, "You know that the rulers of the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
Pero Jesús los convocó y les dijo: “Sabéis que los jefes de las naciones se enseñorean de ellas, y sus grandes ejercen su autoridad sobre ellas.
26 It will not be so among you, but whoever desires to become great among you must be your servant.
No será así entre ustedes, sino que el que quiera hacerse grande entre ustedes será su servidor.
27 And whoever desires to be first among you must be your slave,
El que quiera ser el primero entre vosotros será vuestro siervo,
28 even as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
así como el Hijo del Hombre no ha venido a ser servido, sino a servir, y a dar su vida en rescate por muchos.”
29 As they went out from Jericho, a large crowd followed him.
Al salir de Jericó, le seguía una gran multitud.
30 And look, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, shouted, "Have mercy on us, Lord, son of David."
He aquí que dos ciegos sentados junto al camino, al oír que pasaba Jesús, gritaron: “¡Señor, ten piedad de nosotros, hijo de David!”
31 The crowd rebuked them, telling them that they should be quiet, but they shouted even more, "Have mercy on us, Lord, son of David."
La multitud los reprendió, diciéndoles que se callaran, pero ellos gritaron aún más: “¡Señor, ten piedad de nosotros, hijo de David!”
32 Jesus stood still, and called them, and asked, "What do you want me to do for you?"
Jesús se detuvo, los llamó y les preguntó: “¿Qué quieren que haga por ustedes?”
33 They told him, "Lord, that our eyes may be opened."
Le dijeron: “Señor, que se nos abran los ojos”.
34 Jesus, being moved with compassion, touched their eyes; and immediately their eyes received their sight, and they followed him.
Jesús, compadecido, les tocó los ojos; y al instante sus ojos recibieron la vista, y le siguieron.
