Mark 6
1 And he went out from there and came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.
イエスはそこを去って、郷里に行かれた。弟子たちもついて行った。
2 And when the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, "Where did this man get these things?" and, "What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands?
安息日になったとき、会堂で教え始められた。それを聞いた多くの人々は驚いて言った。「この人は、こういうことをどこから得たのでしょう。この人に与えられた知恵や、この人の手で行なわれるこのような力あるわざは、いったい何でしょう。
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, Josi, Judas, and Simon? Are not his sisters here with us?" They were offended at him.
この人は大工ではありませんか。マリヤの子で、ヤコブ、ヨセ、ユダ、シモンの兄弟ではありませんか。その妹たちも、私たちとここに住んでいるではありませんか。」こうして彼らはイエスにつまずいた。
4 Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house."
イエスは彼らに言われた。「預言者が尊敬されないのは、自分の郷里、親族、家族の間だけです。」
5 And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people, and healed them.
それで、そこでは何一つ力あるわざを行なうことができず、少数の病人に手を置いていやされただけであった。
6 And he was amazed because of their unbelief. And he went around the villages teaching.
イエスは彼らの不信仰に驚かれた。それからイエスは、近くの村々を教えて回られた。
7 And he called to himself the twelve, and began to send them out two by two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits.
また、十二弟子を呼び、ふたりずつ遣わし始め、彼らに汚れた霊を追い出す権威をお与えになった。
8 And he commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only: no bread, no pack, no money in their belts,
また、彼らにこう命じられた。「旅のためには、杖一本のほかは、何も持って行ってはいけません。パンも、袋も、胴巻きに金も持って行ってはいけません。
9 but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics.
くつは、はきなさい。しかし二枚の下着を着てはいけません。」
10 And he said to them, "Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there.
また、彼らに言われた。「どこででも一軒の家にはいったら、そこの土地から出て行くまでは、その家にとどまっていなさい。
11 And if any place will not receive you or listen to you, as you depart from there, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them."
もし、あなたがたを受け入れない場所、また、あなたがたに聞こうとしない人々なら、そこから出て行くときに、そこの人々に対する証言として、足の裏のちりを払い落としなさい。」
12 So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent.
こうして十二人が出て行き、悔い改めを説き広め、
13 They cast out many demons, and anointed many with oil who were sick, and healed them.
悪霊を多く追い出し、大ぜいの病人に油を塗っていやした。
14 King Herod heard this, for his name had become known, and he said, "John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him."
イエスの名が知れ渡ったので、ヘロデ王の耳にもはいった。人々は、「バプテスマのヨハネが死人の中からよみがえったのだ。だから、あんな力が、彼のうちに働いているのだ。」と言っていた。
15 But others said, "He is Elijah." Others said, "He is a prophet, like one of the prophets."
別の人々は、「彼はエリヤだ。」と言い、さらに別の人々は、「昔の預言者の中のひとりのような預言者だ。」と言っていた。
16 But Herod, when he heard this, said, "This is John, whom I beheaded. He has risen."
しかし、ヘロデはうわさを聞いて、「私が首をはねたあのヨハネが生き返ったのだ。」と言っていた。
17 For Herod himself had sent out and arrested John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, for he had married her.
実は、このヘロデが、自分の兄弟ピリポの妻ヘロデヤのことで、――ヘロデはこの女を妻としていた。――人をやってヨハネを捕え、牢につないだのであった。
18 For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."
これは、ヨハネがヘロデに、「あなたが兄弟の妻を自分のものとしていることは不法です。」と言い張ったからである。
19 So Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him, but she could not,
ところが、ヘロデヤはヨハネを恨み、彼を殺したいと思いながら、果たせないでいた。
20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was very perplexed, but he heard him gladly.
それはヘロデが、ヨハネを正しい聖なる人と知って、彼を恐れ、保護を加えていたからである。また、ヘロデはヨハネの教えを聞くとき、非常に当惑しながらも、喜んで耳を傾けていた。
21 And then a convenient day came, that Herod on his birthday gave a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the leaders of Galilee.
ところが、良い機会が訪れた。ヘロデがその誕生日に、重臣や、千人隊長や、ガリラヤのおもだった人などを招いて、祝宴を設けたとき、
22 And when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young woman, "Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you."
ヘロデヤの娘がはいって来て、踊りを踊ったので、ヘロデも列席の人々も喜んだ。そこで王は、この少女に、「何でもほしい物を言いなさい。与えよう。」と言った。
23 And he swore to her, "Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom."
また、「おまえの望む物なら、私の国の半分でも、与えよう。」と言って、誓った。
24 So she went out, and said to her mother, "What should I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the baptizer."
そこで少女は出て行って、「何を願いましょうか。」とその母親に言った。すると母親は、「バプテスマのヨハネの首。」と言った。
25 And she came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked, "I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter."
そこで少女はすぐに、大急ぎで王の前に行き、こう言って頼んだ。「今すぐに、バプテスマのヨハネの首を盆に載せていただきとうございます。」
26 And the king was exceedingly sorry, but for the sake of his oaths, and those reclining, he did not wish to refuse her.
王は非常に心を痛めたが、自分の誓いもあり、列席の人々の手前もあって、少女の願いを退けることを好まなかった。
27 So immediately the king sent out a soldier of his guard, and commanded to bring John's head, and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
そこで王は、すぐに護衛兵をやって、ヨハネの首を持って来るように命令した。護衛兵は行って、牢の中でヨハネの首をはね、
28 and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the young woman; and the young woman gave it to her mother.
その首を盆に載せて持って来て、少女に渡した。少女は、それを母親に渡した。
29 And when his disciples heard this, they came and took up his corpse, and placed it in a tomb.
ヨハネの弟子たちは、このことを聞いたので、やって来て、遺体を引き取り、墓に納めたのであった。
30 Then the apostles gathered themselves together to Jesus, and they told him all things, whatever they had done, and whatever they had taught.
さて、使徒たちは、イエスのもとに集まって来て、自分たちのしたこと、教えたことを残らずイエスに報告した。
31 And he said to them, "Come away by yourselves to an isolated place, and rest awhile." For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
そこでイエスは彼らに、「さあ、あなたがただけで、寂しい所へ行って、しばらく休みなさい。」と言われた。人々の出入りが多くて、ゆっくり食事する時間さえなかったからである。
32 So they went away in the boat to an isolated place by themselves.
そこで彼らは、舟に乗って、自分たちだけで寂しい所へ行った。
33 But they saw them going, and many recognized him and ran there on foot from all the cities and they arrived before them.
ところが、多くの人々が、彼らの出て行くのを見、それと気づいて、方々の町々からそこへ徒歩で駆けつけ、彼らよりも先に着いてしまった。
34 And he came out, saw a large crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.
イエスは、舟から上がられると、多くの群衆をご覧になった。そして彼らが羊飼いのいない羊のようであるのを深くあわれみ、いろいろと教え始められた。
35 And when it was late in the day, his disciples came to him, and said, "This place is desolate, and it is late in the day.
そのうち、もう時刻もおそくなったので、弟子たちはイエスのところに来て言った。「ここはへんぴな所で、もう時刻もおそくなりました。
36 Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages, and buy themselves something to eat."
みんなを解散させてください。そして、近くの部落や村に行って何か食べる物をめいめいで買うようにさせてください。」
37 But he answered them, "You give them something to eat." And they said to him, "Are we to go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give them something to eat?"
すると、彼らに答えて言われた。「あなたがたで、あの人たちに何か食べる物を上げなさい。」そこで弟子たちは言った。「私たちが出かけて行って、二百デナリものパンを買ってあの人たちに食べさせるように、ということでしょうか。」
38 He said to them, "How many loaves do you have? Go see." When they knew, they said, "Five, and two fish."
するとイエスは彼らに言われた。「パンはどれぐらいありますか。行って見て来なさい。」彼らは確かめて言った。「五つです。それと魚が二匹です。」
39 He commanded them that everyone should sit down in groups on the green grass.
イエスは、みなを、それぞれ組にして青草の上にすわらせるよう、弟子たちにお命じになった。
40 They sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.
そこで人々は、百人、五十人と固まって席に着いた。
41 He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves, and he gave to his disciples to set before them, and he divided the two fish among them all.
するとイエスは、五つのパンと二匹の魚を取り、天を見上げて祝福を求め、パンを裂き、人々に配るように弟子たちに与えられた。また、二匹の魚もみなに分けられた。
42 They all ate, and were filled.
人々はみな、食べて満腹した。
43 They took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and also of the fish.
そして、パン切れを十二のかごにいっぱい取り集め、魚の残りも取り集めた。
44 Those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.
パンを食べたのは、男が五千人であった。
45 And immediately he made his disciples get into the boat, and to go ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he himself was sending the crowd away.
それからすぐに、イエスは弟子たちを強いて舟に乗り込ませ、先に向こう岸のベツサイダに行かせ、ご自分は、その間に群衆を解散させておられた。
46 After he had taken leave of them, he went up the mountain to pray.
それから、群衆に別れ、祈るために、そこを去って山のほうに向かわれた。
47 When evening had come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he was alone on the land.
夕方になったころ、舟は湖の真中に出ており、イエスだけが陸地におられた。
48 He saw them distressed in rowing, for the wind was against them. In the watch between three and six in the morning he came to them, walking on the sea, and he would have passed by them,
イエスは、弟子たちが、向かい風のために漕ぎあぐねているのをご覧になり、夜中の三時ごろ、湖の上を歩いて、彼らに近づいて行かれたが、そのままそばを通り過ぎようとのおつもりであった。
49 but they, when they saw him walking on the sea, supposed that it was a ghost, and began to scream;
しかし、弟子たちは、イエスが湖の上を歩いておられるのを見て、幽霊だと思い、叫び声をあげた。
50 for they all saw him, and were troubled. But he immediately spoke with them, and said to them, "Cheer up. It is I. Do not be afraid."
というのは、みなイエスを見ておびえてしまったからである。しかし、イエスはすぐに彼らに話しかけ、「しっかりしなさい。わたしだ。恐れることはない。」と言われた。
51 And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were completely profusely astonished among themselves;
そして舟に乗り込まれると、風がやんだ。彼らの心中の驚きは非常なものであった。
52 for they had not understood about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.
というのは、彼らはまだパンのことから悟るところがなく、その心は堅く閉じていたからである。
53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret, and moored to the shore.
彼らは湖を渡って、ゲネサレの地に着き、舟をつないだ。
54 When they had come out of the boat, immediately the people recognized him,
そして、彼らが舟から上がると、人々はすぐにイエスだと気がついて、
55 and ran around that whole region, and began to bring those who were sick, on their mats, to where they heard he was.
そのあたりをくまなく走り回り、イエスがおられると聞いた場所へ、病人を床に載せて運んで来た。
56 Wherever he entered, into villages, or into cities, or into the country, they placed the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch just the fringe of his garment; and everyone who touched him were made well.
イエスがはいって行かれると、村でも町でも部落でも、人々は病人たちを広場に寝かせ、そして、せめて、イエスの着物の端にでもさわらせてくださるようにと願った。そして、さわった人々はみな、いやされた。
