< Jude 1 >
1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to those who are called, loved by God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ:
Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
2 Mercy to you and peace and love be multiplied.
Mercy to you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.
3 Beloved, while I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I was constrained to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write to you concerning the common salvation, it was needful for me to write to you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints.
4 For there are certain people who crept in secretly, even those who were long ago written about for this condemnation: ungodly people, turning the grace of our God into sensuality, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
For certain men have crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
5 Now I want to remind you, though you already know all these things, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
6 Angels who did not keep their first domain, but deserted their own dwelling place, he has kept in everlasting bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day. (aïdios )
And the angels who kept not their proper abode, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness to the judgment of the great day. (aïdios )
7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them, having, in the same way as these, given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of everlasting fire. (aiōnios )
Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to gross immorality, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (aiōnios )
8 Yet in like manner these also in their dreaming defile the flesh, despise authority, and blaspheme the glories.
Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
9 But Michael, the archangel, when contending with the devil and arguing about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him an abusive condemnation, but said, "May the Lord rebuke you."
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
10 But these speak evil of whatever things they do not know. What they understand naturally, like the creatures without reason, they are destroyed in these things.
But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
11 Woe to them. For they went in the way of Cain, and ran riotously in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in Korah's rebellion.
Woe to them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and run greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.
12 These are hidden rocky reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you, shepherds who without fear feed themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn leaves without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about by winds; late autumn trees, without fruit, twice dead, plucked out by the roots;
13 wild waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved forever. (aiōn )
Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. (aiōn )
14 About these also Hanoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, "Look, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones,
And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
15 to execute judgment on all, and to convict every person of all their works of ungodliness which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him."
To execute judgment upon all, and to convict all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have impiously committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
16 These are murmurers and complainers, walking after their lusts (and their mouth speaks proud things), showing respect of persons to gain advantage.
These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.
17 But you, beloved, remember the words which have been spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
18 They said to you that "In the end time there will be mockers, walking after their own ungodly lusts."
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19 These are they who cause divisions, and are sensual, not having the Spirit.
These are they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
20 But you, beloved, keep building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying by the Holy Spirit,
21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to everlasting life. (aiōnios )
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. (aiōnios )
22 And be merciful on those who doubt,
And of some have compassion, making a difference:
23 and some save, snatching them out of the fire, and on some have mercy with fear; hating even the clothing stained by the flesh.
And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory in great joy,
Now to him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen. (aiōn )
To God the only wise, our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. (aiōn )
