Deuteronomy 28
1 It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to the voice of the LORD your God, to observe to do all his commandments which I command you this day, that the LORD your God will set you on high above all the nations of the earth:
Si tu obéis exactement à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu, en observant et en mettant en pratique tous ses commandements que je te prescris aujourd'hui, Yahweh, ton Dieu, te donnera la supériorité sur toutes les nations de la terre.
2 and all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you, if you shall listen to the voice of the LORD your God.
Voici toutes les bénédictions qui viendront sur toi et t'atteindront, si tu obéis à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu:
3 You shall be blessed in the city, and you shall be blessed in the field.
Tu seras béni dans la ville et tu seras béni dans les champs.
4 You shall be blessed in the fruit of your body, the fruit of your ground, the fruit of your animals, the increase of your livestock, and the young of your flock.
Béni sera le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de ton sol, le fruit de tes troupeaux, les portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail.
5 Your basket and your kneading trough shall be blessed.
Bénies seront ta corbeille et ta huche.
6 You shall be blessed when you come in, and you shall be blessed when you go out.
Tu seras béni à ton entrée, et tu seras béni à ta sortie.
7 The LORD will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be struck before you. They will come out against you one way, and will flee before you seven ways.
Yahweh fera que les ennemis qui s'élèveront contre toi soient mis en déroute devant toi; venus contre toi par un seul chemin, ils s'enfuiront devant toi par sept chemins.
8 The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses, and in all that you put your hand to; and he will bless you in the land which the LORD your God gives you.
Yahweh commandera à la bénédiction d'être avec toi dans tes greniers et dans tout travail de tes mains! Il te bénira dans le pays que te donne Yahweh, ton Dieu.
9 The LORD will establish you for a holy people to himself, as he has sworn to you; if you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and walk in his ways.
Yahweh te fera subsister pour lui comme un peuple saint, ainsi qu'il te l'a juré, si tu observes les commandements de Yahweh, ton Dieu, et si tu marches dans ses voies;
10 All the peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of you.
et tous les peuples verront que le nom de Yahweh est nommé sur toi, et ils te craindront.
11 The LORD will make you plenteous for good, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.
Yahweh te comblera de biens, en multipliant le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de tes troupeaux et le fruit de ton sol, dans le pays que Yahweh a juré à tes pères de te donner.
12 The LORD will open to you his good treasure in the sky, to give the rain of your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand: and you shall lend to many nations, and you shall not borrow.
Yahweh t'ouvrira son bon trésor, le ciel, pour envoyer à ton pays la pluie en son temps, et pour bénir tout le travail de tes mains. Tu prêteras à beaucoup de nations, et tu n'emprunteras point.
13 The LORD will make you the head, and not the tail; and you shall be above only, and you shall not be beneath; if you shall listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day, to observe and to do,
Yahweh te mettra à la tête, et non à la queue; tu seras toujours en haut, et tu ne seras jamais en bas, si tu obéis aux commandements de Yahweh, ton Dieu, que je te prescris aujourd'hui, si tu les observes et les mets en pratique,
14 and shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
et si tu ne t'écartes, ni à droite ni à gauche, de tous les commandements que je vous prescris aujourd'hui, pour aller après d'autres dieux et les servir.
15 But it shall come to pass, if you will not listen to the voice of the LORD your God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command you this day, that all these curses shall come on you, and overtake you.
Mais si tu n'obéis pas à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu, pour observer et mettre en pratique tous ses commandements et toutes ses lois que je te prescris aujourd'hui, voici toutes les malédictions qui viendront sur toi et t'atteindront:
16 You shall be cursed in the city, and you shall be cursed in the field.
Tu seras maudit dans la ville et tu seras maudit dans les champs.
17 Your basket and your kneading trough shall be cursed.
Seront maudites ta corbeille et ta huche.
18 The fruit of your body, the fruit of your ground, the increase of your livestock, and the young of your flock shall be cursed.
Seront maudits le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de ton sol, les portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail.
19 You shall be cursed when you come in, and you shall be cursed when you go out.
Tu seras maudit à ton entrée, et tu seras maudit à ta sortie.
20 The LORD will send on you cursing, confusion, and rebuke, in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed, and until you perish quickly; because of the evil of your doings, by which you have forsaken me.
Yahweh enverra contre toi la malédiction, le trouble et la menace, dans tout ce que tu entreprendras de faire, jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit et jusqu'à ce que tu périsses bientôt, à cause de la perversité de tes actions, par lesquelles tu m'auras abandonné.
21 The LORD will make the pestilence cling to you, until he has consumed you from off the land, where you go in to possess it.
Yahweh attachera à toi la peste, jusqu'à ce qu'elle t'ait consumé de dessus la terre où tu vas entrer pour la posséder.
22 The LORD will strike you with consumption, and with fever, and with inflammation, and with fiery heat, and with the sword, and with blight, and with mildew; and they shall pursue you until you perish.
Yahweh te frappera de langueur, de fièvre, d'inflammation, de chaleur brûlante, de sécheresse, de charbon et de nielle, fléaux qui te poursuivront jusqu'à ce que tu périsses.
23 Your sky that is over your head shall be bronze, and the earth that is under you shall be iron.
Ton ciel sur ta tête sera d'airain, et la terre sous tes pieds sera de fer.
24 The LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust: from the sky shall it come down on you, until you are destroyed.
Yahweh enverra pour pluie à ton pays de la poussière et du sable qui descendront du ciel sur toi jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit.
25 The LORD will cause you to be struck before your enemies; you shall go out one way against them, and shall flee seven ways before them: and you shall be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth.
Yahweh fera que tu sois battu devant tes ennemis; tu sortiras contre eux par un seul chemin, et par sept chemins tu fuiras devant eux, et tu seras un objet de terreur parmi tous les royaumes de la terre.
26 Your dead body shall be food to all birds of the sky, and to the animals of the earth; and there shall be none to frighten them away.
Ton cadavre servira de pâture à tous les oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre, et il n'y aura personne pour les effrayer.
27 The LORD will strike you with the boil of Egypt, and with the tumors, and with the scurvy, and with the itch, of which you can not be healed.
Yahweh te frappera de l'ulcère d'Egypte, d'hémorroïdes, de dartres et de gale, dont tu ne pourras guérir.
28 The LORD will strike you with madness, and with blindness, and with astonishment of heart;
Yahweh te frappera de délire, d'aveuglement et d'égarement d'esprit;
29 and you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways: and you shall be only oppressed and robbed always, and there shall be none to save you.
tu tâtonneras en plein midi, comme l'aveugle dans l'obscurité; tu ne réussiras pas dans tes voies; tu seras tous les jours opprimé et dépouillé, sans personne qui vienne à ton secours.
30 You shall betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: you shall build a house, and you shall not dwell in it: you shall plant a vineyard, and shall not use its fruit.
Tu te fianceras à une femme, et un autre la possédera; tu bâtiras une maison, et tu ne l'habiteras pas; tu planteras une vigne, et tu n'en jouiras pas.
31 Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it: your donkey shall be violently taken away from before your face, and shall not be restored to you: your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and you shall have none to save you.
Ton bœuf sera égorgé sous tes yeux, et tu n'en mangeras pas; ton âne sera enlevé de devant toi, et on ne te le rendra pas; tes brebis seront livrées à tes ennemis, et personne ne viendra à ton secours.
32 Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people; and your eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day: and there shall be nothing in the power of your hand.
Tes fils et tes filles seront livrés à un autre peuple; tes yeux le verront et languiront tout le jour après eux, et ta main sera impuissante.
33 The fruit of your ground, and all your labors, shall a nation which you do not know eat up; and you shall be only oppressed and crushed always;
Le fruit de ton sol et tout le produit de ton travail, un peuple que tu n'as pas connu le mangera, et tu seras opprimé et écrasé tous les jours.
34 so that you shall be mad for the sight of your eyes which you shall see.
Tu deviendras fou à la vue des choses que tu verras de tes yeux.
35 The LORD will strike you in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore boil, of which you can not be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.
Yahweh te frappera aux genoux et aux cuisses d'un ulcère malin, dont tu ne pourras guérir; il te couvrira depuis la plante du pied jusqu'au sommet de la tête.
36 The LORD will bring you, and your king whom you shall set over you, to a nation that you have not known, you nor your fathers; and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone.
Yahweh te fera marcher, toi et ton roi que tu auras mis à ta tête, vers une nation que tu n'auras pas connue, ni toi, ni tes pères, et là tu serviras d'autres dieux, du bois et de la pierre,
37 You shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples where the LORD shall lead you away.
et tu deviendras un sujet d'étonnement, de fable et de raillerie, parmi tous les peuples chez lesquels Yahweh te mènera.
38 You shall carry much seed out into the field, and shall gather little in; for the locust shall consume it.
Tu porteras sur ton champ beaucoup de semence, et tu recueilleras peu, car les sauterelles la dévoreront.
39 You shall plant vineyards and dress them, but you shall neither drink of the wine, nor harvest; for the worm shall eat them.
Tu planteras des vignes et tu les cultiveras, et tu ne boiras pas de vin et tu ne récolteras rien, car les vers les mangeront.
40 You shall have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you shall not anoint yourself with the oil; for your olives shall drop off.
Tu auras des oliviers sur tout ton territoire, et tu ne t'oindras pas d'huile, car tes olives tomberont.
41 You shall father sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity.
Tu engendreras des fils et des filles, et ils ne seront pas à toi, car ils iront en captivité.
42 All your trees and the fruit of your ground shall the locust possess.
Les insectes s'empareront de tous tes arbres et des fruits de ton sol.
43 The foreigner who is in the midst of you shall mount up above you higher and higher; and you shall come down lower and lower.
L'étranger qui vit au milieu de toi s'élèvera de plus en plus au-dessus de toi, tandis que toi, tu descendras toujours plus bas;
44 He shall lend to you, and you shall not lend to him: he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail.
il te prêtera, et tu ne lui prêteras pas: il sera en tête, et tu seras à la queue.
45 All these curses shall come on you, and shall pursue you, and overtake you, until you are destroyed; because you did not listen to the voice of the LORD your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you:
Toutes ces malédictions viendront sur toi, elles te poursuivront et t'atteindront, jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit, parce que tu n'auras pas obéi à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu, pour observer ses lois et ses commandements qu'il t'a prescrits.
46 and they shall be on you for a sign and for a wonder, and on your descendants forever.
Elles seront pour toi un signe et un prodige, et pour ta postérité à jamais.
47 Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things;
Parce que tu n'auras pas servi Yahweh, ton Dieu, avec joie et de bon cœur, en retour de l'abondance de toutes choses,
48 therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the LORD shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck, until he has destroyed you.
tu serviras, dans la faim, dans la soif, dans la nudité, dans la disette de toutes choses, tes ennemis que Yahweh enverra contre toi; il mettra un joug de fer sur ton cou, jusqu'à ce qu'il t'ait détruit.
49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from a distant land, as the eagle flies; a nation whose language you shall not understand;
Yahweh fera partir contre toi de loin, des extrémités de la terre, une nation à la marche rapide comme le vol de l'aigle, nation dont tu n'entendras pas le langage,
50 a nation of fierce facial expressions, that shall not respect the person of the old, nor show favor to the young,
nation à l'aspect farouche, qui n'aura ni égards pour le vieillard, ni pitié pour l'enfant.
51 and shall eat the fruit of your livestock, and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed; that also shall not leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your livestock, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.
Elle dévorera le fruit de tes troupeaux et le fruit de ton sol, jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit; elle ne te laissera ni blé, ni vin nouveau, ni huile, ni les portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail, jusqu'à ce qu'elle t'ait fait périr.
52 They shall besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which the LORD your God has given you.
Elle t'assiégera dans toutes tes portes, jusqu'à ce que tombent dans tout ton pays tes murailles, hautes et fortes, dans lesquelles tu auras mis ta confiance; elle t'assiégera dans toutes tes portes, dans tout le pays que Yahweh, ton Dieu, t'aura donné.
53 You shall eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies shall distress you.
Tu mangeras le fruit de tes entrailles, la chair de tes fils et de tes filles que Yahweh, ton Dieu, t'aura donnés, tant sera grande l'angoisse et la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi.
54 The man who is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children whom he has remaining;
L'homme d'entre vous le plus délicat et le plus habitué au luxe regardera d'un œil jaloux son frère, la femme qui repose sur son sein et le reste de ses enfants qu'il aura épargnés;
55 so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat, because he has nothing left him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in all your gates.
il ne donnera à aucun d'eux de la chair de ses enfants dont il se nourrira, parce qu'il ne lui restera plus rien, tant seront grandes l'angoisse et la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi dans toutes tes portes.
56 The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,
La femme d'entre vous la plus délicate et la plus habituée au luxe, trop tendre et trop délicate pour essayer de poser à terre la plante de son pied, regardera d'un œil jaloux le mari qui reposait sur son sein, ainsi que son fils et sa fille,
57 and toward her young one who comes out from between her feet, and toward her children whom she shall bear; for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in your gates.
à cause de l'arrière-faix sorti d'entre ses pieds et de ses enfants qu'elle aura mis au monde; car, manquant de tout, elle s'en nourrira en secret, tant sera grande l'angoisse et la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi dans tes portes.
58 If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, The LORD your God;
Si tu n'as pas soin de mettre en pratique toutes les paroles de cette loi, écrites dans ce livre, craignant ce nom glorieux et redoutable: Yahweh, ton Dieu,
59 then the LORD will make your plagues extraordinary, and the plagues of your descendants, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and severe sicknesses, and of long continuance.
— Yahweh rendra extraordinaires tes plaies et les plaies de ta postérité, plaies grandes et continues, maladies graves et opiniâtres.
60 He will bring on you again all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of; and they shall cling to you.
Il fera revenir sur toi toutes les maladies d'Egypte, devant lesquelles tu tremblais, et elles s'attacheront à toi.
61 Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring them on you, until you are destroyed.
De plus, Yahweh fera venir sur toi toutes sortes de maladies et de plaies, qui ne sont pas écrites dans le livre de cette loi, jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit.
62 You shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of the sky for multitude; because you did not listen to the voice of the LORD your God.
Vous ne resterez plus qu'un petit nombre, après avoir été nombreux comme les étoiles du ciel, parce que tu n'auras pas obéi à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu.
63 It shall happen that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so the LORD will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you; and you shall be plucked from off the land where you go in to possess it.
De même que Yahweh prenait plaisir à vous faire du bien et à vous multiplier, ainsi Yahweh prendra plaisir à vous faire périr et à vous détruire; et vous serez arrachés de la terre où tu vas entrer pour la posséder.
64 The LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth; and there you shall serve other gods, which you have not known, you nor your fathers, even wood and stone.
Yahweh te dispersera parmi tous les peuples, d'une extrémité de la terre à l'autre, et là, tu serviras d'autres dieux que n'ont connus ni toi ni tes pères, du bois et de la pierre.
65 Among these nations you shall find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of your foot: but the LORD will give you there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul;
Parmi ces nations mêmes, tu ne seras pas tranquille, et il n'y aura pas un lieu de repos pour la plante de tes pieds; là Yahweh te donnera un cœur tremblant, des yeux éteints, et une âme languissante.
66 and your life shall hang in doubt before you; and you shall fear night and day, and shall have no assurance of your life.
Ta vie sera comme en suspens devant toi, tu trembleras la nuit et le jour, et tu ne croiras pas à ta vie.
67 In the morning you shall say, "I wish it were evening." and at evening you shall say, "I wish it were morning." for the fear of your heart which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see.
Le matin tu diras: « Que ne suis-je au soir? » et le soir tu diras: « Que ne suis-je au matin? » — à cause de la crainte qui agitera ton cœur et des choses que tes yeux verront.
68 The LORD will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, You shall see it no more again: and there you shall sell yourselves to your enemies for bondservants and for bondmaids, and no man shall buy you.
Et Yahweh te fera retourner sur des navires en Egypte, par le chemin dont je t'avais dit: « Tu ne le verras plus. » Et là vous vous offrirez en vente à vos ennemis, comme esclaves et comme servantes, et il n'y aura personne qui vous achète. »
