< 2 Timothy 4 >

1 I command you therefore before God and Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his Kingdom:
I give you orders, before God and Christ Jesus, who will be the judge of the living and the dead, and by his revelation and his kingdom;
2 preach the word; be urgent in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with all patience and teaching.
Be preaching the word at all times, in every place; make protests, say sharp words, give comfort, with long waiting and teaching;
3 For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts;
For the time will come when they will not take the true teaching; but, moved by their desires, they will get for themselves a great number of teachers for the pleasure of hearing them;
4 and will turn away their ears from the truth, and turn aside to myths.
And shutting their ears to what is true, will be turned away to belief in foolish stories.
5 But you be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
But be self-controlled in all things, do without comfort, go on preaching the good news, completing the work which has been given you to do.
6 For I am already being offered, and the time of my departure has come.
For I am even now being offered, and my end is near.
7 I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith.
I have made a good fight, I have come to the end of my journey, I have kept the faith:
8 From now on, there is stored up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day; and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved his appearing.
From now on, the crown of righteousness is made ready for me, which the Lord, the upright judge, Will give to me at that day: and not only to me, but to all those who have had love for his revelation.
9 Be diligent to come to me soon,
Do your best to come to me before long:
10 for Demas left me, having loved this present world, and went to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. (aiōn g165)
For Demas has gone away from me, for love of this present life, and has gone to Thessalonica: Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. (aiōn g165)
11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service.
Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and take him with you; for he is of use to me in the work.
12 But I sent Tychicus to Ephesus.
Tychicus I sent to Ephesus.
13 Bring the cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus when you come, and the books, especially the parchments.
The coat which I did not take from Troas and which is with Carpus, get when you come, and the books, specially the papers.
14 Alexander, the coppersmith, did much evil to me. The Lord will repay him according to his works,
Alexander the copper-worker did me much wrong: the Lord will give him the reward of his works:
15 of whom you also must beware; for he greatly opposed our words.
But be on the watch for him, for he was violent in his attacks on our teaching.
16 At my first defense, no one came to help me, but all left me. May it not be held against them.
At my first meeting with my judges, no one took my part, but all went away from me. May it not be put to their account.
17 But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me, that through me the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the non-Jewish people might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
But the Lord was by my side and gave me strength; so that through me the news might be given out in full measure, and all the Gentiles might give ear: and I was taken out of the mouth of the lion.
18 And the Lord will deliver me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
The Lord will keep me safe from every evil work and will give me salvation in his kingdom in heaven: to whom be glory for ever and ever. So be it. (aiōn g165)
19 Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the house of Onesiphorus.
Give my love to Prisca and Aquila and those of the house of Onesiphorus.
20 Erastus remained at Corinth, and I left Trophimus at Miletus, ill.
Erastus was stopping at Corinth; but Trophimus, when I last saw him was at Miletus, ill.
21 Be diligent to come before winter. Eubulus salutes you, as do Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers.
Do your best to come before the winter. Eubulus sends you his love, and Pudens and Linus and Claudia, and all the brothers.
22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.
The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.
