2 Peter 2
1 But false prophets also arose among the people, as false teachers will also be among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction.
Mutta jo entisinä aikoina oli myös valeprofeettoja. Samoin teidän joukossanne on miehiä, jotka johdattavat teitä harhaan. He esittävät taitavasti valeitaan ja jopa kääntyvät Herraansa vastaan, joka osti heidät. Heidän loppunsa on äkillinen ja hirveä.
2 Many will follow their immoral ways, and as a result, the way of the truth will be maligned.
Monet uskovat heitä, kun he opettavat, että kristitty saa vapaasti elää huonoa elämää. Heidän takiaan aletaan pilkata koko kristillistä uskoa.
3 In covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words: whose sentence now from of old does not linger, and their destruction is not asleep.
Ahneuksissaan nämä miehet puhuvat teille mitä vain, kunhan saavat rahanne. Jumala on tuominnut heidät jo kauan sitten – heidän tuhonsa on lähellä.
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them down to the lower parts of hell, and committed them to chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; (Tartaroō g5020)

5 and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood on the world of the ungodly;
Ei hän säästänyt myöskään Nooan ajan ihmisiä. Vedenpaisumus tuhosi koko jumalattoman maailman. Vain Nooa, joka julisti Jumalan totuutta, ja hänen seitsenhenkinen perheensä pelastuivat.
6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, having made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
Myöhemmin Jumala poltti poroksi Sodoman ja Gomorran ja hävitti ne maan päältä. Hän teki niistä varoittavan esimerkin kaikille, jotka elävät ilman häntä.
7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was very distressed by the lustful life of the wicked
Herra pelasti kuitenkin sodomalaisen Lootin, hurskaan miehen, joka oli kiusaantunut kaikesta näkemästään pahuudesta.
8 (for that righteous man dwelling among them, was tormented in his righteous soul from day to day with seeing and hearing lawless deeds):
9 the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment;
Herra voi pelastaa myös teidät ja minut kiusauksista, joiden keskellä olemme, ja rangaista jumalattomia ihmisiä lopulliseen tuomion julistamiseen asti.
10 but chiefly those who walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they are not afraid to blaspheme the glories;
Hän on erityisen ankara niille, jotka ovat antautuneet pahojen himojen hallintaan ja uskaltavat väheksyä Herraa.
11 whereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not bring a railing judgment against them before the Lord.
Jumalan enkelitkin ovat mahtavampia kuin nuo väärät opettajat, mutta hekään eivät puhu Herran edessä epäkunnioittavasti ja syyttävästi edes pahoista henkivalloista.
12 But these, as unreasoning creatures, born natural animals to be taken and destroyed, speaking evil in matters about which they are ignorant, will in their destroying surely be destroyed,
Mutta nuo valheen opettajat ovat järjettömiä – kuin eläimet, jotka syntyvät metsästettäviksi tai teurastettaviksi. He elävät omien oikkujensa mukaan ja pilkkaavat valtavia voimia, joita eivät tunne. Mutta heidät pyydystetään ja tapetaan kuin eläimet, ja he joutuvat demonien kanssa tuhon omiksi.
13 suffering the penalty as the wages of evil; people who count it pleasure to revel in the daytime, spots and blemishes, reveling in their deceit while they feast with you;

14 having eyes full of adultery, and insatiable for sin, enticing unstable people, having a heart trained in greed. Children under a curse.
Yksikään nainen ei säästy heidän katseiltaan, eivätkä he saa tarpeekseen aviorikoksista. Helposti johdateltavissa olevien ihmisten syntiin houkutteleminen tuottaa heille suurta huvia. He ovat tottuneet ahneuteen. Heidät on tuomittava, koska he ovat eksyneet oikealta tieltä.
15 Forsaking the right way they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness.

16 But he was rebuked for his own transgression; a donkey that could not talk spoke with a human voice and stopped the irrationality of the prophet.

17 These are wells without water, and mists driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved.
Nämä miehet ovat hyödyttömiä kuin kuivuneet lähteet: lupaavat paljon mutta eivät anna mitään. He ovat epävakaita kuin myrskytuulen ajamat pilvet, ja heidät tuomitaan pimeyden pohjattomaan syvyyteen.
18 For, uttering great swelling words of emptiness, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by licentiousness, those who actually escape from those who live in error;
He ylpeilevät saavutuksistaan ja käyttävät himoa syöttinä, kun houkuttelevat uudestaan syntiin niitä, jotka juuri ovat päässeet eroon huonosta elämästä.
19 promising them liberty, while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for a person is brought into bondage by whoever overcomes him.
He sanovat: »Ette te sillä pelastu, että teette hyvää. Yhtä hyvin voitte siis tehdä pahaa. Tehkää vapaasti mitä ikinä tahdotte.» He tarjoavat kyllä »vapautta», mutta ovat itse synnin orjia. Jos jokin asia hallitsee ihmistä, hän on sen orja.
20 For if, after they have escaped the defilement of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in it and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.
Jeesuksen Kristuksen, meidän Herramme ja Vapahtajamme, tunteminen pelastaa ihmisen tämän maailman saastasta. Mutta jos hän sen jälkeen antautuu uudelleen synnin hallintaan, hänen tilansa on entistä pahempi.
21 For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.
Hän on oppinut tuntemaan Kristuksen, mutta kääntää selkänsä hänen käskyilleen. Olisi ollut parempi, ettei hän olisi tiennytkään niistä mitään.
22 It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog turns to his own vomit again," and "the sow that has washed to wallowing in the mire."
Sanotaanhan: »Koira palaa oksennukselleen» ja »pesty sika rypee uudelleen rapakossa». Tällaisia ovat ne ihmisetkin, jotka palaavat synteihinsä.
