2 Corinthians 1
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia:
[Lähettäjät: ] Paavali, jonka Jumala on valinnut Jeesuksen Kristuksen lähettilääksi, sekä rakas veljemme Timoteus. [Vastaanottajat: ] kaikki Korintin ja koko Kreikan kristityt.
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Toivotamme teille Jumalan, meidän Isämme, ja Jeesuksen Kristuksen runsasta siunausta ja rauhaa.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort;
Kuinka hyvä Jumala onkaan! Hän on Herramme Jeesuksen Kristuksen Isä, kaiken hyvyyden alku, ja hän lohduttaa ja vahvistaa meitä aina koetuksissamme ja vaikeuksissamme. Tarkoitus on, että me puolestamme voisimme samalla tavoin auttaa muita ahdistuneita ja tukea tarvitsevia.
4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ.
Voitte olla varmoja, että mitä enemmän joudumme kärsimään Kristuksen vuoksi, sitä enemmän hän auttaa ja rohkaisee meitä.
6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer.
Olemme kokeneet suuria vaikeuksia tuodessamme teille lohdutusta Jumalalta ja tietoa pelastuksesta. Mutta Jumala on antanut meille uutta rohkeutta ja voimaa, mikä on avuksi teillekin. Kun näette, miten hän auttaa meitä, ymmärrätte myös, että hän lohduttaa teitäkin, kun joudutte näihin samoihin kärsimyksiin. Hän auttaa teitä kestämään ne.
7 Our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that, since you are partakers of the sufferings, so also are you of the comfort.
8 For we do not desire to have you uninformed, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life.
Teidän on varmasti hyvä tietää, että meillä oli Vähässä-Aasiassa suuria vaikeuksia. Tilanne oli aivan mahdoton: emme edes uskoneet selviävämme hengissä.
9 Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead,
Meistä tuntui, että olimme kuolemaan tuomittuja, ja huomasimme, miten voimattomia olemme itseämme auttamaan. Se oli vain hyvä, sillä meidän oli luotettava kokonaan Jumalaan. Hän, joka herättää kuolleetkin, oli ainoa, joka voi pelastaa meidät.
10 who delivered us out of so great a death, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will also deliver us again;
Hän auttoi meitä silloin ja auttaa yhä uudestaan.
11 you also helping together on our behalf by your petition; that, for the gift bestowed on us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf.
Mutta tekin voitte olla meille avuksi rukoilemalla puolestamme. Kun näette Jumalan vastaavan rukouksiinne ja antavan meille mitä tarvitsemme, niin saatte paljon aihetta kiittää häntä.
12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we conducted ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.
Voimme rehellisesti sanoa, että olemme koko ajan toimineet vilpittömästi. Omatuntomme on puhdas. Olemme kaikessa luottaneet vain Herraan ja hänen apuunsa emmekä omiin kykyihimme. Ennen muuta tämä koskee suhdettamme teihin.
13 For we write no other things to you, than what you read or even acknowledge, and I hope you will fully acknowledge;
Olen kirjoittanut teille suoraan ja rehellisesti ilman mitään taka-ajatuksia. Vaikka ette tunnekaan minua kovin hyvin (toivon, että aikaa myöten opitte tuntemaan), haluaisin teidän hyväksyvän minut ja olevan ylpeitä minusta – niin kuin jo alatte ollakin. Minäkin olen ylpeä teistä sinä päivänä, jona Jeesus palaa.
14 as also you acknowledged us in part, that we are your boasting, even as you also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus.
15 In this confidence, I was determined to come first to you, that you might have a second benefit;
Olin varma, että ymmärrätte minua ja luotatte minuun, ja siksi aioin tulla katsomaan teitä sekä Makedoniaan mennessäni että sieltä palatessani. Olisitte saaneet kaksinkertaisen ilonaiheen ja voineet varustaa minut Juudean-matkalle.
16 and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be sent forward by you on my journey to Judea.
17 When I therefore was planning this, did I do it lightly? Or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the "Yes, yes" and the "No, no?"
Ehkä kysytte, miksi muutin suunnitelmiani. Enkö ollutkaan varma päätöksestäni? Vai olenko niin epäluotettava, että sanon »kyllä» vaikka tarkoitan »ei»?
18 But as God is faithful, our word toward you is not "Yes and no."
Varmasti en! Jumala voi todistaa, että kun sanon »kyllä», myös tarkoitan sitä.
19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, Silvanus, and Timothy, was not "Yes and no," but in him is "Yes."
Timoteus, Silas ja minä olemme kertoneet teille Jeesuksesta, Jumalan Pojasta. Hän ei koskaan sano »kyllä» tarkoittaessaan »ei», vaan tekee tarkasti sanojensa mukaan.
20 For however many are the promises of God, in him they are "Yes." Therefore also through him they are "Amen," to the glory of God through us.
Hän täyttää kaikki Jumalan lupaukset, oli niitä miten paljon tahansa. Olemmekin kertoneet kaikille, miten luotettava hän on, että ihmiset kunnioittaisivat Jumalaa.
21 Now he who establishes us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God;
Juuri Jumala on tehnyt teistä ja meistä kristittyjä ja lähettänyt meidät apostoleina kertomaan kaikille hyvää uutista.
22 who also sealed us, and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts.
Hän on painanut meihin omistajanmerkkinsä ja antanut sydämiimme Pyhän Hengen vakuudeksi siitä, että olemme hänen – kuin ennakkona kaikesta, mitä kerran saamme.
23 But I call God as a witness to my soul, that to spare you I did not come again to Corinth.
Jumala voi todistaa, että puhun totta: en tullut tapaamaan teitä, koska en halunnut tehdä teitä murheellisiksi moitteillani.
24 Not that we rule over your faith, but are fellow workers with you for your joy. For you stand firm in faith.
Vaikka en paljoa voikaan vahvistaa uskoanne, koska se on jo vahva, haluaisin tullessani tehdä teidät iloisiksi enkä surullisiksi.
