2 Corinthians 3
1 Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? We do not need, as do some, letters of commendation to you or from you, do we?
Cominciamo noi di nuovo a raccomandar noi stessi? O abbiam noi bisogno, come alcuni, di lettere di raccomandazione presso di voi o da voi?
2 You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by everyone;
Siete voi la nostra lettera, scritta nei nostri cuori, conosciuta e letta da tutti gli uomini;
3 being revealed that you are a letter of Christ, served by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tablets of stone, but in tablets that are hearts of flesh.
essendo manifesto che voi siete una lettera di Cristo, scritta mediante il nostro ministerio, scritta non con inchiostro, ma con lo Spirito dell’Iddio vivente; non su tavole di pietra, ma su tavole che son cuori di carne.
4 Such confidence we have through Christ toward God;
E una tal confidanza noi l’abbiamo per mezzo di Cristo presso Dio.
5 not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God;
Non già che siam di per noi stessi capaci di pensare alcun che, come venendo da noi;
6 who also made us sufficient as servants of a new covenant; not of the letter, but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
ma la nostra capacità viene da Dio, che ci ha anche resi capaci d’esser ministri d’un nuovo patto, non di lettera, ma di spirito; perché la lettera uccide, ma lo spirito vivifica.
7 But if the service of death, written engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly on the face of Moses for the glory of his face; which was passing away:
Ora se il ministerio della morte scolpito in lettere su pietre fu circondato di gloria, talché i figliuoli d’Israele non poteano fissar lo sguardo nel volto di Mosè a motivo della gloria, che pur svaniva, del volto di lui,
8 won't service of the Spirit be with much more glory?
non sarà il ministerio dello Spirito circondato di molto maggior gloria?
9 For if the service of condemnation has glory, the service of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.
Se, infatti, il ministerio della condanna fu con gloria, molto più abbonda in gloria il ministerio della giustizia.
10 For truly that which has been made glorious has not been made glorious in this respect, by reason of the glory that surpasses.
Anzi, quel che nel primo fu reso glorioso, non fu reso veramente glorioso, quando lo si confronti colla gloria di tanto superiore del secondo;
11 For if that which passes away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory.
perché, se ciò che aveva da sparire fu circondato di gloria, molto più ha da esser glorioso ciò che ha da durare.
12 Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness of speech,
Avendo dunque una tale speranza, noi usiamo grande franchezza,
13 and not as Moses, who put a veil on his face, that the children of Israel would not look steadfastly on the end of that which was passing away.
e non facciamo come Mosè, che si metteva un velo sulla faccia, perché i figliuoli d’Israele non fissassero lo sguardo nella fine di ciò che doveva sparire.
14 But their minds were hardened, for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains, because in Christ it passes away.
Ma le loro menti furon rese ottuse; infatti, sino al dì d’oggi, quando fanno la lettura dell’antico patto, lo stesso velo rimane, senz’essere rimosso, perché è in Cristo ch’esso è abolito.
15 But to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.
Ma fino ad oggi, quando si legge Mosè, un velo rimane steso sul cuor loro;
16 But whenever one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
quando però si saranno convertiti al Signore, il velo sarà rimosso.
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Ora, il Signore è lo Spirito; e dov’è lo Spirito del Signore, quivi è libertà.
18 But we all, with unveiled face looking as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.
E noi tutti contemplando a viso scoperto, come in uno specchio, la gloria del Signore, siamo trasformati nell’istessa immagine di lui, di gloria in gloria, secondo che opera il Signore, che è Spirito.
