1 Thessalonians 5
1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.
兄弟たち。それらがいつなのか、またどういう時かについては、あなたがたは私たちに書いてもらう必要がありません。
2 For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
主の日が夜中の盗人のように来るということは、あなたがた自身がよく承知しているからです。
3 Now when they are saying, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.
人々が「平和だ。安全だ。」と言っているそのようなときに、突如として滅びが彼らに襲いかかります。ちょうど妊婦に産みの苦しみが臨むようなもので、それをのがれることは決してできません。
4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.
しかし、兄弟たち。あなたがたは暗やみの中にはいないのですから、その日が、盗人のようにあなたがたを襲うことはありません。
5 You are all sons of light, and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night, nor to darkness,
あなたがたはみな、光の子ども、昼の子どもだからです。私たちは、夜や暗やみの者ではありません。
6 so then let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober.
ですから、ほかの人々のように眠っていないで、目をさまして、慎み深くしていましょう。
7 For those who sleep, sleep in the night, and those who are drunk are drunk in the night.
眠る者は夜眠り、酔う者は夜酔うからです。
8 But let us, since we belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
しかし、私たちは昼の者なので、信仰と愛を胸当てとして着け、救いの望みをかぶととしてかぶって、慎み深くしていましょう。
9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
神は、私たちが御怒りに会うようにお定めになったのではなく、主イエス・キリストにあって救いを得るようにお定めになったからです。
10 who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
主が私たちのために死んでくださったのは、私たちが、目ざめていても、眠っていても、主とともに生きるためです。
11 Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.
ですから、あなたがたは、今しているとおり、互いに励まし合い、互いに徳を高め合いなさい。
12 But we ask you, brothers, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you,
兄弟たちよ。あなたがたにお願いします。あなたがたの間で労苦し、主にあってあなたがたを指導し、訓戒している人々を認めなさい。
13 and to respect and honor them in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
その務めのゆえに、愛をもって深い尊敬を払いなさい。お互いの間に平和を保ちなさい。
14 We exhort you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient toward all.
兄弟たち。あなたがたに勧告します。気ままな者を戒め、小心な者を励まし、弱い者を助け、すべての人に対して寛容でありなさい。
15 See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always seek what is good both for each other and for all.
だれも悪をもって悪に報いないように気をつけ、お互いの間で、またすべての人に対して、いつも善を行なうよう務めなさい。
16 Rejoice always.
いつも喜んでいなさい。
17 Pray without ceasing.
絶えず祈りなさい。
18 In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.
すべての事について、感謝しなさい。これが、キリスト・イエスにあって神があなたがたに望んでおられることです。
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
御霊を消してはなりません。
20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt,
預言をないがしろにしてはいけません。
21 but test all things; hold firmly that which is good.
すべてのことを見分けて、ほんとうに良いものを堅く守りなさい。
22 Abstain from every form of evil.
悪はどんな悪でも避けなさい。
23 May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
平和の神ご自身が、あなたがたを全くきよめてくださいますように。主イエス・キリストの来臨のとき、責められるところのないように、あなたがたの霊、たましい、からだが完全に守られますように。
24 He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.
あなたがたを召された方は真実ですから、きっとそのことをしてくださいます。
25 Brothers, pray for us also.
兄弟たち。私たちのためにも祈ってください。
26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
すべての兄弟たちに、きよい口づけをもってあいさつをなさい。
27 I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers.
この手紙がすべての兄弟たちに読まれるように、主によって命じます。
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
私たちの主イエス・キリストの恵みが、あなたがたとともにありますように。
