< 1 Samuel 17 >
1 Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and camped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes Dammim.
Awo Abafirisuuti ne bakuŋŋaanyiza eggye lyabwe e Soko ekya Yuda okulwana. Ne basiisira mu Efusudammimu ekiri wakati wa Soko ne Azeka.
2 Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and camped in the Valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
Sawulo n’Abayisirayiri nabo ne bakuŋŋaana, bo ne basiisira mu kiwonvu Era, ne basimba ennyiriri okulwana n’Abafirisuuti.
3 The Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
Abafirisuuti ne bayimirira ku luuyi olumu olw’olusozi, n’Abayisirayiri ne bayimirira ku luuyi olulala olw’olusozi, nga wakati waabwe waliwo ekiwonvu.
4 There went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six feet eight inches.
Mu lusiisira lw’Abafirisuuti ne muva essajja eddene nga lizira erinnya lyalyo Goliyaasi, ery’e Gaasi, ng’obuwanvu bwalyo lyali mita ssatu n’okusingawo.
5 And he had a helmet on his head, and wore bronze scale-armor. And the weight of the bronze armor was five thousand shekels.
Lyalina enkuufiira ey’ekikomo ku mutwe gwalyo, nga lyambadde n’ekizibaawo eky’ekikomo, n’obuzito bwakyo bwali kilo ataano mu musanvu.
6 And he had bronze armor on his shins, and a bronze javelin was slung over his shoulders.
Lyali lyambadde eby’ebikomo ku magulu gaalyo, nga lirina effumu ery’ekikomo ku kibegabega kyalyo.
7 Now the shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and its blade weighed six hundred iron shekels, and his shield bearer went in front of him.
N’olunyago lw’effumu lyalyo lwali ng’omuti ogulukirwako engoye, n’omutwe gw’effumu ogw’ekyuma ng’obuzito bwagwo kilo musanvu. Eyasitulanga engabo ye yamukulemberangamu.
8 He stood and shouted to the armies of Israel, and said to them, "Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you servants to Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.
Awo Goliyaasi n’ayimirira n’aboggolera eggye lya Isirayiri nti, “Lwaki mwetegeka okulwana? Siri Mufirisuuti, ate mmwe temuli baddu ba Sawulo? Mulonde omusajja mu mmwe aserengete gye ndi.
9 If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then you will be our servants, and serve us."
Bw’anannwanyisa n’anzita, kale tunaafuuka baddu bammwe, naye bwe nnaamuwangula ne mutta, munaafuuka baddu baffe era munaatuweerezanga.”
10 The Philistine said, "I defy the armies of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together."
Era Omufirisuuti n’ayongera okwogera nti, “Leero, nsomooza eggye lya Isirayiri! Mumpeeyo omusajja tulwane.”
11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
Sawulo ne Isirayiri yenna bwe baawulira ebigambo eby’Omufirisuuti, ne bakeŋŋentererwa ne batya nnyo.
12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons. And in the days of Saul the man was old and advanced in years.
Dawudi yali mutabani wa Yese Omwefulasi ow’e Besirekemu mu Yuda.
13 The three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle. And the names of his sons who went to the battle were Eliab, the firstborn, and Abinadab, the second, and Shimeah, the third.
Yese yalina abaana munaana aboobulenzi, era mu biro ebyo ebya Sawulo yali akaddiye nnyo. Batabani ba Yese abakulu abasatu baali bagenze ne Sawulo mu lutalo. Omukulu ye yali Eriyaabu, owookubiri nga ye Abinadaabu, n’owookusatu nga ye Samma.
14 David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul.
Dawudi ye yali omuto. Abasatu ne bagenda ne Sawulo,
15 Now David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.
naye Dawudi n’addiŋŋananga ng’ava mu kulunda endiga za kitaawe e Besirekemu, ng’agenda ewa Sawulo.
16 The Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
Omufirisuuti n’amala ennaku amakumi ana ng’asoomooza Abayisirayiri enkya n’akawungeezi.
17 Then Jesse said to David, "Now take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp and give them to your brothers;
Yese n’agamba mutabani we Dawudi nti, “Kwata ekkilo zino amakumi abiri ez’eŋŋaano ensiike n’emigaati gino ekkumi, oyanguwe okubitwalira baganda bo mu lusiisira lwabwe.
18 and bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers are doing, and bring back news."
Ate ne bino ebitole ekkumi eby’amata (kiizi) bitwalire omuduumizi w’ekibinja kyabwe. Olabe baganda bo nga bwe bali okomyewo obubaka obunaatugumya.
19 Now Saul and they and all the men of Israel were in the Valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
Bali ne Sawulo n’abasajja ba Isirayiri bonna mu kiwonvu Era, balwana n’Abafirisuuti.”
20 So David arose early in the morning and left the flock with a keeper and took and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the perimeter of the camp as the army was marching out to its battle formation and shouting the war cry.
Enkeera Dawudi n’agolokoka mu makya nnyo, endiga n’azirekera omusumba, n’ateekateeka ebintu bye yali atwala, n’agenda nga Yese bwe yamulagira. We yatuukira mu lusiisira, ng’eggye ligenda mu ddwaniro nga lirangirira olutalo.
21 And Israel and the Philistines lined up in battle formation, army against army.
Isirayiri n’Abafirisuuti baali basimbye ennyiriri, buli ggye nga lyolekedde linnaalyo.
22 And David left his supplies in the care of the attendant, and ran to the army and came and greeted his brothers.
Dawudi n’alekera omukuumi w’ebikozesebwa ebintu bye, n’adduka n’agenda eri eggye, n’alamusa ku baganda be.
23 As he talked with them, look, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words: and David heard them.
Awo bwe yali ng’aky’anyumya nabo, Goliyaasi, Omufirisuuti omuzira ow’e Gaasi, ne yeesowolayo okuva mu ggye ly’Abafirisuuti n’asoomooza Abayisirayiri mu bigambo bye bimu bye yayogeranga. Dawudi n’amuwulira.
24 All the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were terrified.
Awo Abayisirayiri bwe baalaba omusajja ne batya ne bamudduka mu kutya okw’ekitalo.
25 The men of Israel said, "Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. It shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house exempt in Israel."
Ne bagamba nti, “Mulaba omusajja oyo avuddeyo? Mazima, azze okusoomooza Isirayiri. Omuntu alimutta, kabaka alimugaggawaza era alimuwa muwala we okumuwasa, era n’ennyumba ya kitaawe eneebanga ya ddembe mu Isirayiri.”
26 David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, "What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine, and takes away this disgrace from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?"
Awo Dawudi n’abuuza abasajja abaali bamuyimiridde okumpi nti, “Kiki ekirikolerwa omuntu alitta Omufirisuuti oyo, n’aggya obuswavu buno ku Isirayiri? Omufirisuuti oyo atali mukomole yeeyita ani okusoomooza eggye lya Katonda omulamu?”
27 The people answered him in this way, saying, "So shall it be done to the man who kills him."
Ne bamuddiramu ebigambo bye bimu nti, “Bw’atyo bw’anaakolebwa omuntu anaamutta.”
28 Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, "Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your insolence and the wickedness of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle."
Awo Eriyaabu, muganda wa Dawudi mukulu waabwe bwe yamuwulira ng’ayogera n’abasajja, obusungu ne bumukwata, n’amubuuza nti, “Kiki ekyakuleese wano? Ani gwe walekedde endiga ezo entono ku ttale? Mmanyi amalala go n’ekyejo ky’olina mu mutima, waserengese kulaba bulabi lutalo.”
29 David said, "What have I now done? Is there not a cause?"
Dawudi n’ayogera nti, “Kaakano nkoze ki? Siyinza kubaako kye mbuuza? Mbuuzizza bubuuza.”
30 Then he turned away from him toward another, and spoke in the same way, and they gave him an answer as before.
N’akyuka n’abuuza omuntu omulala ekibuuzo kye kimu, mu ngeri y’emu abasajja ne bamutegeeza ebigambo bye bimu nga bali abaasoose.
31 When the words that David spoke were overheard, they repeated them before Saul; and he sent for him.
Ebigambo Dawudi bye yayogera byawulirwa ne bituusibwa eri Sawulo; Sawulo n’amutumya.
32 David said to Saul, "Let not my lord's heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine."
Awo Dawudi n’agamba Sawulo nti, “Waleme kubaawo muntu n’omu aggwaamu mwoyo olw’Omufirisuuti oyo. Omuweereza wo anaagenda n’amulwanyisa.”
33 Saul said to David, "You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth."
Sawulo n’amuddamu nti, “Toyinza kugenda kulwana na Mufirisuuti oyo; kubanga oli mulenzi bulenzi, songa ye abadde mulwanyi okuva mu buvubuka bwe.”
34 David said to Saul, "Your servant was keeping his father's sheep; and when a lion or a bear came, and took a lamb out of the flock,
Naye Dawudi n’addamu Sawulo nti, “Omuweereza wo amaze ebbanga ng’alunda endiga za kitaawe, era bwe waabangawo empologoma oba eddubu eyajjanga n’etwala omwana gw’endiga okuva mu kisibo,
35 I went out after him, and struck him, and rescued it out of his mouth. When he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and struck him, and killed him.
nagigobereranga, ne ngikuba, ne mponya omwana gw’endiga nga nguggya mu kamwa k’ensolo eyo. Bwe yankyukiranga n’eyagala okunzita, nga ngikwata oluba ne ngikuba ne ngitta.
36 Your servant struck both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them. Should I not go and smite him, and remove this day a disgrace from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised one, since he has defied the armies of the living God?
Omuweereza wo yattako ku mpologoma n’eddubu. Omufirisuuti ono atali mukomole anaaba ng’emu ku zo, kubanga asoomozezza eggye lya Katonda omulamu.”
37 The LORD who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine." Saul said to David, "Go; and the LORD shall be with you."
Dawudi n’ayogera nti, “Mukama eyamponya enjala z’empologoma n’enjala z’eddubu, alimponya ne mu mukono gw’Omufirisuuti oyo.” Awo Sawulo n’agamba Dawudi nti, “Genda, era Mukama abeere naawe.”
38 And he dressed David in a uniform with a bronze helmet on his head, and he clothed him with a coat of armor.
Sawulo n’ayambaza Dawudi ebyambalo bye eby’olutalo; n’amuwa ekizibaawo eky’ekikomo, n’amuteeka n’enkuufiira ey’ekikomo ku mutwe.
39 And David strapped on his sword over his uniform, and after he had tried once or twice to walk, then David said to Saul, "I can't walk with these, for I am not used to them." So they took them off him.
Dawudi ne yeesiba ekitala kya Sawulo ku kyambalo, n’agezaako okutambula, naye n’alemererwa, kubanga yali tabimanyidde. Awo n’agamba Sawulo nti, “Siisobole kugenda na bino kubanga sibimanyidde.” N’abyeyambulamu.
40 Then he took his staff in his hand and chose for himself five smooth stones from the wadi, and put them in the shepherd's bag, in the pouch. And his sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine.
N’akwata omuggo mu mukono gwe, n’alonda n’amayinja amaweweevu ataano mu kagga, n’agateeka mu nsawo ye ey’omusumba. N’addira n’envuumuulo ye mu mukono gwe n’asemberera Omufirisuuti.
41 So the Philistine moved forward and came near to David, and his shield-bearer was in front of him.
Awo Omufirisuuti n’omusajja eyasitulanga ebyokulwanyisa bye nga yamukulembeddemu, ne basemberera Dawudi.
42 When the Philistine looked and saw David, he despised him, for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and handsome in appearance.
Omufirisuuti n’atunuulira Dawudi n’amunyooma kubanga yali mulenzi bulenzi, ng’alabika bulungi ate n’amaaso ge nga malungi.
43 The Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with a stick and stones?" And David said, "No, worse than a dog." And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
N’agamba Dawudi nti, “Ndi mbwa olyoke ojje gye ndi n’emiggo?” Omufirisuuti n’akolimira Dawudi nga bwakoowoola balubaale be.
44 The Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky, and to the animals of the field."
Omufirisuuti n’agamba Dawudi nti, “Sembera wano, omubiri gwo nnaagugabira ennyonyi ez’omu bbanga n’ensolo ez’omu nsiko.”
45 Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
Naye Dawudi n’agamba Omufirisuuti nti, “Ojja gye ndi n’ekitala n’effumu, naye nze nzija gy’oli mu linnya lya Mukama ow’eggye, Katonda w’eggye lya Isirayiri gw’osoomooza.
46 Today, the LORD will deliver you into my hand; and I will strike you, and take your head from off you. And I will give your corpse and the corpses of the Philistine army this very day to the birds of the air, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
Olwa leero Mukama anaakuwaayo mu mukono gwange, ne nkukuba era ne nkusalako omutwe. Olwa leero nnaagabira emirambo egy’eggye ery’Abafirisuuti eri ebinyonyi eby’omu bbanga n’eri ensolo enkambwe ez’ensi, ensi yonna eryoke etegeere nga waliwo Katonda mu Isirayiri.
47 and that all this assembly may know that the LORD doesn't save with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hand."
Abo bonna abakuŋŋaanye wano banaategeera nga Mukama talokola na kitala wadde effumu, kubanga olutalo, lwa Mukama era mwenna agenda kubawaayo mu mukono gwaffe.”
48 It happened, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
Awo Omufirisuuti bwe yali ng’asembera okulumba Dawudi, Dawudi n’adduka mbiro okumusisinkana.
49 David put his hand in his bag, took a stone, and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.
Dawudi n’aggya ejjinja mu nsawo ye n’alivuumuula ne likwasa Omufirisuuti mu kyenyi; n’agwa nga yeevuunise, n’ejjinja nga liyingidde mu kyenyi kye.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine, and killed him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
Bw’atyo Dawudi n’awangula Omufirisuuti n’envuumuulo n’ejjinja, n’amukuba n’amutta nga Dawudi talina kitala ky’akutte.
51 Then David ran and stood beside him, and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
Dawudi bwe yamala okutta Omufirisuuti, n’adduka n’amuyimirirako, n’asowola ekitala ky’Omufiisuuti okuva mu kiraato kyakyo, n’amutemako omutwe nakyo. Awo Abafirisuuti bwe baalaba omuzira waabwe ng’afudde ne badduka.
52 The men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued them as far as Gath, and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron.
Abasajja ba Isirayiri ne Yuda ne bagolokoka n’okuleekaana okungi ne bagoberera Abafirisuuti okutuuka e Gaasi ne ku miryango gya Ekuloni; abaafa n’abaatuusibwako ebiwundu ne baba bangi mu kkubo okuva e Saalayimu okutuuka e Gaasi n’e Ekuloni.
53 The children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.
Awo Abayisirayiri bwe baakomawo okuva mu kugoberera Abafirisuuti, ne banyaga olusiisira lw’Abafirisuuti.
54 David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armor in his tent.
Dawudi n’asitula omutwe gw’Omufirisuuti n’aguleeta e Yerusaalemi, naye ebyokulwanyisa by’Omufirisuuti n’abiteeka mu weema ye.
55 When Saul saw David go out to meet the Philistine, he said to Abner, the commander of the army, "Whose son is that boy?" And Abner said, "As your soul lives, O king, I don't know."
Sawulo bwe yalengera Dawudi ng’agenda okulwana n’Omufirisuuti, n’abuuza Abuneeri omuduumizi w’eggye nti, “Abuneeri, oyo omuvubuka mutabani w’ani?” Abuneeri n’amuddamu nti, “Nga bw’oli omulamu, ayi kabaka, simanyi.”
56 The king said, "Inquire whose son that young man is."
Kabaka n’ayogera nti, “Genda onoonyereze bazadde b’omuvubuka oyo.”
57 As David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
Amangu ddala nga Dawudi akomyewo ng’asse Omufirisuuti, Abuneeri n’amutwala mu maaso ga Sawulo, nga Dawudi asitudde omutwe gw’Omufirisuuti mu mukono gwe.
58 Saul said to him, "Whose son are you, young man?" David answered, "I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite."
Sawulo n’amubuuza nti, “Muvubuka, oli mwana w’ani?” Dawudi n’amuddamu nti, “Ndi mutabani wa muddu wo Yese Omubesirekemu.”
