1 Corinthians 4
1 So a person should consider us as Christ's servants, and stewards of God's mysteries.
So sehe man uns denn als Christi Diener an und als Verwalter der Geheimnisse Gottes.
2 Here, moreover, it is required of stewards, that they be found faithful.
Hier kommt noch hinzu, daß man von Verwaltern weiter nichts verlangt, als daß sie treu erfunden werden.
3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you, or by man's judgment. Yes, I do not judge my own self.
Mir macht es sehr wenig aus, ob ich von euch oder von einem menschlichen Gerichtstag abgeurteilt werde. Ja ich fälle nicht einmal selbst ein Urteil über mich.
4 For I know nothing against myself. Yet I am not justified by this, but he who judges me is the Lord.
Es ist wohl wahr: ich bin mir keiner Schuld bewußt. Doch damit bin ich noch nicht gerechtfertigt. Der Herr ist, der mir das Urteil spricht.
5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one will get his praise from God.
Darum urteilt nicht voreilig! Haltet euer Urteil zurück, bis der Herr kommt! Er wird auch das, was in Finsternis verborgen ist, ans Licht bringen und die Gedanken der Herzen offenbar machen. Dann wird jedem das ihm gebührende Lob von Gott zuteil werden.
6 Now these things, brothers, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that in us you might learn not to go beyond the things which are written, that none of you be puffed up against one another.
Bisher, Brüder, habe ich nur von mir und Apollos geredet. Das habe ich mit Rücksicht auf euch getan. Denn durch unser Beispiel sollt ihr lernen, nicht über die rechten Grenzen (der Demut und Bescheidenheit) hinauszugehen und nicht den einen (Lehrer) auf Kosten des anderen in Aufgeblasenheit vorzuziehen.
7 For who makes you different? And what do you have that you did not receive? But if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
(Du erhebst dich über andere; doch sage mir: ) Wer gibt dir solchen Vorzug? Und solltest du wirklich etwas an Vorzügen aufweisen können, hast du es dann nicht (von Gott) empfangen? Hast du es aber empfangen, warum rühmst du dich, als wäre das nicht der Fall?
8 You are already filled. You have already become rich. You have come to reign without us. Yes, and I wish that you did reign, that we also might reign with you.
Ihr seid schon satt. Ihr seid schon reich geworden. Ihr herrscht schon ohne unser Zutun als Könige. Ach, ich wollte, ihr wärt wirklich schon zur Herrschaft gelangt! Dann könnten ja auch wir mit eurer Hilfe herrschen.
9 For, I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last of all, like men sentenced to death. For we are made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and people.
Es scheint mir, Gott habe uns, die letzten Apostel, wie zum Tod verurteilte Verbrecher öffentlich zur Schau gestellt. Denn wir sind für die Welt — für Engel und Menschen — ein Schauspiel geworden.
10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You have honor, but we have dishonor.
Wir sind Toren um Christi willen, ihr seid kluge Leute in Christus. Wir sind schwach, ihr seid stark. Ihr seid in Ehren, wir sind in Schmach.
11 Even to this present hour we hunger, thirst, are naked, are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place.
Bis auf diese Stunde leiden wir Hunger und Durst, wir sind ohne Kleidung, wir werden tätlich mißhandelt, wir wandern heimatlos umher,
12 We toil, working with our own hands. When people curse us, we bless. Being persecuted, we endure.
wir quälen uns ab bei unserer Hände Arbeit. Schmäht man uns, so segnen wir. Verfolgt man uns, so halten wir still. Verleugnet man uns, so geben wir gute Worte.
13 Being defamed, we entreat. We are made as the filth of the world, the dirt wiped off by all, even until now.
Wir sind bis jetzt gleichsam der Auswurf der Welt, der Abschaum der Menschheit gewesen.
14 I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.
Das schreibe ich nicht, um euch zu beschämen, sondern um euch als meine geliebten Kinder zurechtzuweisen.
15 For though you have ten thousand tutors in Christ, yet not many fathers. For in Christ Jesus, I became your father through the Good News.
Denn hättet ihr in euerm Christenleben auch zehntausend (strenge) Erzieher, so habt ihr doch nur einen (liebevollen) Vater. Ich habe euch ja in Christus Jesus durch die Heilsbotschaft gezeugt.
16 I appeal to you therefore, be imitators of me.
Darum ermahne ich euch: Folgt meinen Weisungen!
17 Because of this I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, even as I teach everywhere in every church.
Deshalb habe ich auch Timotheus zu euch gesandt. Der ist mein geliebter und treuer Sohn im Herrn, und er soll euch an die Weisungen erinnern, die ich als Diener Christi Jesu überall in jeder Gemeinde gebe.
18 Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you.
Manche unter euch bilden sich freilich ein, ich käme nicht zu euch, und sind deshalb aufgeblasen.
19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord is willing. And I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power.
Wenn es aber des Herrn Wille ist, so werde ich recht bald zu euch kommen. Dann will ich sehen — nicht, was die Aufgeblasenen für Worte machen, sondern mit welcher Kraft sie auftreten können.
20 For the Kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
Denn das Königreich Gottes offenbart sich nicht in Worten, sondern in Kraft.
21 What do you want? Should I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?
Was wollt ihr nun? Soll ich mit der Rute zu euch kommen oder mit Liebe und im Geist der Milde?
