< Psalms 6 >
1 [For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, upon the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David.] LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger, neither discipline me in your wrath.
For the Leader; with string-music; on the Sheminith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in Thine anger, neither chasten me in Thy wrath.
2 Be gracious to me, LORD, for I am frail. LORD, heal me, for my bones are trembling.
Be gracious unto me, O LORD, for I languish away; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are affrighted.
3 And my soul is greatly troubled. But you, LORD, how long?
My soul also is sore affrighted; and Thou, O LORD, how long?
4 Return, LORD. Deliver my soul. Save me because of your lovingkindness.
Return, O LORD, deliver my soul; save me for Thy mercy's sake.
5 For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give you thanks? (Sheol )
For in death there is no remembrance of Thee; in the nether-world who will give Thee thanks? (Sheol )
6 I am weary with my groaning. Every night I drench my bed; I melt my couch with my tears.
I am weary with my groaning; every night make I my bed to swim; I melt away my couch with my tears.
7 My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
Mine eye is dimmed because of vexation; it waxeth old because of all mine adversaries.
8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping.
Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.
9 The LORD has heard my plea. The LORD has accepted my prayer.
The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD receiveth my prayer.
10 May all my enemies be ashamed and greatly terrified. May they turn back, suddenly ashamed.
All mine enemies shall be ashamed and sore affrighted; they shall turn back, they shall be ashamed suddenly.
