< Proverbs 16 >

1 The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.
Mĩbango ya ngoro nĩ ya mũndũ, no icookio rĩa rũrĩmĩ riumaga harĩ Jehova.
2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weighs the motives.
Mũndũ onaga mĩthiĩre yake yothe ĩrĩ mĩega, no Jehova nĩwe ũthimaga matanya.
3 Entrust your works to the LORD, and your plans will be established.
Rekagĩrĩria Jehova maũndũ mothe marĩa ũrĩĩkaga, nayo mĩbango yaku nĩĩrĩgaacagĩra.
4 The LORD has made everything for its own end—yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.
Jehova ombire indo ciothe irĩ na gĩtũmi gĩacio, ĩĩ-ni, o na arĩa aaganu aamoombire nĩ ũndũ wa mũthenya wa thĩĩna.
5 Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: they shall certainly not be unpunished.
Mũndũ wothe wa ngoro ya mwĩtĩĩo nĩ kĩndũ kĩrĩ magigi harĩ Jehova. Menyai na ma atĩrĩ, ndakaaga kũherithio.
6 By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for. By the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
Mehia nĩmahorohagĩrio nĩ wendo na wĩhokeku, na nĩ ũndũ wa gwĩtigĩra Jehova-rĩ, mũndũ nĩeheragĩra ũũru.
7 When a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Rĩrĩa mĩthiĩre ya mũndũ yakenia Jehova-rĩ, atũmaga o na thũ ciake itũũranie nake na thayũ.
8 Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues with injustice.
Kaba indo nini cionekete na njĩra ya ũthingu, gũkĩra uumithio mũnene ũtarĩ wa kĩhooto.
9 A man's heart plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.
Mũndũ nĩabangaga na ngoro mũthiĩre wake, no Jehova nĩwe ũroragia makinya make kũrĩa ekũgerera.
10 Inspired judgments are on the lips of the king. He shall not betray his mouth.
Mĩromo ya mũthamaki yaragia ũhoro taarĩ ndũmĩrĩri, na kanua gake gatiagĩrĩirwo kuogomia kĩhooto.
11 Honest balances and scales are the LORD's; all the weights in the bag are his work.
Igeri na ratiri cia ma nĩ cia Jehova; mahiga mothe ma gũthima marĩa marĩ mũhuko-rĩ, o namo no wĩra wake.
12 It is an abomination to kings to do wickedness, for the throne is established by righteousness.
Kũrĩ athamaki-rĩ, gwĩka ũũru nĩ ũndũ ũrĩ magigi, nĩgũkorwo gĩtĩ kĩa ũnene kĩĩhaandaga nĩ ũndũ wa ũthingu.
13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings. They value one who speaks the truth.
Athamaki nĩmakenagĩra mĩromo ĩrĩa yaragia ma; nĩ marĩ bata na mũndũ waragia ũhoro wa ma.
14 The king's wrath is a messenger of death, but a wise man will pacify it.
Mangʼũrĩ ma mũthamaki nĩ ta mũtũmwo wa gĩkuũ, no mũndũ mũũgĩ nĩakamahooreria.
15 In the light of the king's face is life. His favor is like a cloud of the spring rain.
Gũthererwo gĩthiithi nĩ mũthamaki nĩ muoyo; ũtugi wake ũtariĩ ta itu rĩa mbura ĩrĩa ĩkũragia irio.
16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold. Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
Hĩ! Kaĩ kũgĩa ũũgĩ nĩ kwega gũkĩra thahabu-ĩ, gũthuura ũtaũku gũgakĩra kũgĩa na betha!
17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. He who keeps his way preserves his soul.
Njĩra njariĩ ya arĩa arũngĩrĩru yeheragĩra ũũru; mũndũ ũrĩa ũmenyagĩrĩra mĩthiĩre yake nĩ muoyo wake mwene agitagĩra.
18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Mwĩtĩĩo ũrũmagĩrĩrwo nĩ mwanangĩko, roho wa mwĩtũũgĩrio ũkarũmĩrĩrwo nĩ kũgũa.
19 It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor, than to divide the plunder with the proud.
Nĩ kaba roho wa kwĩnyiihia na gũkorwo hamwe na arĩa ahinyĩrĩrie, gũkĩra kũgayana indo cia ndaho na arĩa etĩĩi.
20 He who heeds the word finds prosperity, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.
Mũndũ ũrĩa ũrũmbũyagia mataaro nĩagaacagĩra, na kũrathimwo nĩ mũndũ ũrĩa wĩhokaga Jehova.
21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent. Pleasantness of the lips promotes instruction.
Arĩa oogĩ ngoro-inĩ metagwo akũũrani maũndũ, na ciugo njega itũũgagĩria ũtaaro.
22 Understanding is a fountain of life to one who has it, but the punishment of fools is their folly.
Ũtaũku nĩ gĩthima kĩa muoyo kũrĩ arĩa marĩ naguo, no ũrimũ ũrehaga iherithia kũrĩ andũ arĩa akĩĩgu.
23 The heart of the wise instructs his mouth, and adds learning to his lips.
Ngoro ya mũndũ mũũgĩ nĩyo ĩtongoragia kanua gake, nayo mĩromo yake ĩtũũgagĩria ũtaaro.
24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
Ndeto njega nĩ igua rĩa ũũkĩ, irĩ mũrĩo ngoro-inĩ, na harĩ mahĩndĩ nĩ ũgima.
25 There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
Kũrĩ njĩra mũndũ onaga ta yagĩrĩire, no marigĩrĩrio mayo yerekagĩra gĩkuũ-inĩ.
26 The appetite of the laboring man labors for him; for his mouth urges him on.
Kũhũũta kwa mũruti wa wĩra nĩkuo kũmũteithagia, ngʼaragu yake nĩyo ĩmũtindĩkaga.
27 A worthless man devises mischief. His speech is like a scorching fire.
Kĩmaramari gĩthugundaga ũũru, na mĩario yakĩo nĩ ta mwaki wa gũcina.
28 A perverse man stirs up strife, and a gossip separates close friends.
Mũndũ mwaganu arehaga ngarari, na mũhuhu ũtigithanagia andũ marĩ ũrata mũnene.
29 A man of violence entices his neighbor, and leads him in a way that is not good.
Mũndũ wa haaro aheenagĩrĩria mũndũ wa itũũra rĩake, akamũtongoria njĩra-inĩ ĩtarĩ njega.
30 One who winks his eyes to plot perversities, one who compresses his lips, is bent on evil.
Mũndũ ũrĩa uunagĩra andũ riitho akoragwo agĩthugunda waganu, ũrĩa ũtembanagia mĩromo akoragwo agĩthugunda ũũru.
31 Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is found in the path of righteousness.
Mbuĩ nĩ thũmbĩ ya riiri; cionekaga nĩ ũndũ wa mũtũũrĩre wa ũthingu.
32 One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.
Nĩ kaba mũndũ mũkirĩrĩria gũkĩra njamba ya ita, na nĩ kaba mũndũ ũrĩa ũrigagĩrĩria marakara make gũkĩra ũrĩa wĩnyiitagĩra itũũra inene.
33 The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.
Mĩtĩ ĩcuukagĩrwo maru-inĩ, no itua o rĩothe riumaga kũrĩ Jehova.
