Matthew 27
1 Now when morning had come, all the chief cohanim and the elders of the people took counsel against Yeshua to put him to death:
mane autem facto consilium inierunt omnes principes sacerdotum et seniores populi adversus Iesum ut eum morti traderent
2 and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him to Pilate, the governor.
et vinctum adduxerunt eum et tradiderunt Pontio Pilato praesidi
3 Then Judah, who betrayed him, when he saw that Yeshua was condemned, felt remorse, and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief cohanim and elders,
tunc videns Iudas qui eum tradidit quod damnatus esset paenitentia ductus rettulit triginta argenteos principibus sacerdotum et senioribus
4 saying, "I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood." But they said, "What is that to us? You see to it."
dicens peccavi tradens sanguinem iustum at illi dixerunt quid ad nos tu videris
5 He threw down the pieces of silver in the sanctuary, and departed. He went away and hanged himself.
et proiectis argenteis in templo recessit et abiens laqueo se suspendit
6 The chief cohanim took the pieces of silver, and said, "It's not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood."
principes autem sacerdotum acceptis argenteis dixerunt non licet mittere eos in corbanan quia pretium sanguinis est
7 They took counsel, and bought the potter's field with them, to bury strangers in.
consilio autem inito emerunt ex illis agrum figuli in sepulturam peregrinorum
8 Therefore that field was called "The Field of Blood" to this day.
propter hoc vocatus est ager ille Acheldemach ager sanguinis usque in hodiernum diem
9 Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, "They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him upon whom a price had been set, whom some of the children of Israel priced,
tunc impletum est quod dictum est per Hieremiam prophetam dicentem et acceperunt triginta argenteos pretium adpretiati quem adpretiaverunt a filiis Israhel
10 and they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me."
et dederunt eos in agrum figuli sicut constituit mihi Dominus
11 Now Yeshua stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Yeshua said to him, "You say so."
Iesus autem stetit ante praesidem et interrogavit eum praeses dicens tu es rex Iudaeorum dicit ei Iesus tu dicis
12 When he was accused by the chief cohanim and elders, he answered nothing.
et cum accusaretur a principibus sacerdotum et senioribus nihil respondit
13 Then Pilate said to him, "Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?"
tunc dicit illi Pilatus non audis quanta adversum te dicant testimonia
14 He gave him no answer, not even one word, so that the governor was greatly amazed.
et non respondit ei ad ullum verbum ita ut miraretur praeses vehementer
15 Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the crowd one prisoner, whom they desired.
per diem autem sollemnem consueverat praeses dimittere populo unum vinctum quem voluissent
16 They had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
habebat autem tunc vinctum insignem qui dicebatur Barabbas
17 When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Yeshua, who is called Messiah?"
congregatis ergo illis dixit Pilatus quem vultis dimittam vobis Barabban an Iesum qui dicitur Christus
18 For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.
sciebat enim quod per invidiam tradidissent eum
19 While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him."
sedente autem illo pro tribunali misit ad illum uxor eius dicens nihil tibi et iusto illi multa enim passa sum hodie per visum propter eum
20 Now the chief cohanim and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and destroy Yeshua.
princeps autem sacerdotum et seniores persuaserunt populis ut peterent Barabban Iesum vero perderent
21 But the governor answered them, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" They said, "Barabbas."
respondens autem praeses ait illis quem vultis vobis de duobus dimitti at illi dixerunt Barabban
22 Pilate said to them, "What then should I do with Yeshua, who is called the Messiah?" They all said, "Let him be crucified."
dicit illis Pilatus quid igitur faciam de Iesu qui dicitur Christus
23 But he said, "Why? What evil has he done?" But they shouted all the louder, saying, "Let him be crucified."
dicunt omnes crucifigatur ait illis praeses quid enim mali fecit at illi magis clamabant dicentes crucifigatur
24 So Pilate, seeing that nothing was being gained, but rather that a disturbance was starting, took water and he washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man. You see to it."
videns autem Pilatus quia nihil proficeret sed magis tumultus fieret accepta aqua lavit manus coram populo dicens innocens ego sum a sanguine iusti huius vos videritis
25 All the people answered, "May his blood be on us, and on our children."
et respondens universus populus dixit sanguis eius super nos et super filios nostros
26 Then he released to them Barabbas, but Yeshua he flogged and delivered to be crucified.
tunc dimisit illis Barabban Iesum autem flagellatum tradidit eis ut crucifigeretur
27 Then the governor's soldiers took Yeshua into the Praetorium, and gathered the whole garrison together against him.
tunc milites praesidis suscipientes Iesum in praetorio congregaverunt ad eum universam cohortem
28 They stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him.
et exuentes eum clamydem coccineam circumdederunt ei
29 They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, "Greetings, King of the Jews."
et plectentes coronam de spinis posuerunt super caput eius et harundinem in dextera eius et genu flexo ante eum inludebant dicentes have rex Iudaeorum
30 They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.
et expuentes in eum acceperunt harundinem et percutiebant caput eius
31 When they had mocked him, they took the robe off of him, and put his clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him.
et postquam inluserunt ei exuerunt eum clamydem et induerunt eum vestimentis eius et duxerunt eum ut crucifigerent
32 As they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Shim'on by name, and they compelled him to go with them, that he might carry his cross.
exeuntes autem invenerunt hominem cyreneum nomine Simonem hunc angariaverunt ut tolleret crucem eius
33 They came to a place called "Golgotha," that is to say, "The place of a skull."
et venerunt in locum qui dicitur Golgotha quod est Calvariae locus
34 They gave him wine to drink mixed with gall. When he had tasted it, he would not drink.
et dederunt ei vinum bibere cum felle mixtum et cum gustasset noluit bibere
35 When they had crucified him, they divided his clothing among themselves, casting a lot, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: 'They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast a lot.'
postquam autem crucifixerunt eum diviserunt vestimenta eius sortem mittentes
36 And they sat and watched him there.
et sedentes servabant eum
37 They set up over his head the accusation against him written, "THIS IS YESHUA, THE KING OF THE JEWS."
et inposuerunt super caput eius causam ipsius scriptam hic est Iesus rex Iudaeorum
38 Then there were two robbers crucified with him, one on his right hand and one on the left.
tunc crucifixi sunt cum eo duo latrones unus a dextris et unus a sinistris
39 Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,
praetereuntes autem blasphemabant eum moventes capita sua
40 and saying, "You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save yourself. If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross."
et dicentes qui destruit templum et in triduo illud reaedificat salva temet ipsum si Filius Dei es descende de cruce
41 Likewise the chief cohanim also mocking, with the scribes, and the elders, said,
similiter et principes sacerdotum inludentes cum scribis et senioribus dicentes
42 "He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.
alios salvos fecit se ipsum non potest salvum facere si rex Israhel est descendat nunc de cruce et credemus ei
43 He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'"
confidet in Deo liberet nunc eum si vult dixit enim quia Dei Filius sum
44 The robbers also who were crucified with him insulted him in the same way.
id ipsum autem et latrones qui fixi erant cum eo inproperabant ei
45 Now from noon until three in the afternoon there was darkness over all the land.
a sexta autem hora tenebrae factae sunt super universam terram usque ad horam nonam
46 Then at about three in the afternoon Yeshua called out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lema shabachthani?" That is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
et circa horam nonam clamavit Iesus voce magna dicens Heli Heli lema sabacthani hoc est Deus meus Deus meus ut quid dereliquisti me
47 Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, "This man is calling Elijah."
quidam autem illic stantes et audientes dicebant Heliam vocat iste
48 Immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him a drink.
et continuo currens unus ex eis acceptam spongiam implevit aceto et inposuit harundini et dabat ei bibere
49 The rest said, "Let him be. Let us see whether Elijah comes to save him."
ceteri vero dicebant sine videamus an veniat Helias liberans eum
50 And Yeshua cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.
Iesus autem iterum clamans voce magna emisit spiritum
51 And look, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split.
et ecce velum templi scissum est in duas partes a summo usque deorsum et terra mota est et petrae scissae sunt
52 The tombs were opened, and the bodies of many kadoshim who had fallen asleep were raised;
et monumenta aperta sunt et multa corpora sanctorum qui dormierant surrexerunt
53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city and appeared to many.
et exeuntes de monumentis post resurrectionem eius venerunt in sanctam civitatem et apparuerunt multis
54 Now the centurion, and those who were with him watching Yeshua, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God."
centurio autem et qui cum eo erant custodientes Iesum viso terraemotu et his quae fiebant timuerunt valde dicentes vere Dei Filius erat iste
55 Many women were there watching from afar, who had followed Yeshua from Galil, serving him.
erant autem ibi mulieres multae a longe quae secutae erant Iesum a Galilaea ministrantes ei
56 Among them were Miriam from Magdala, Miriam the mother of Jacob and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zavdai.
inter quas erat Maria Magdalene et Maria Iacobi et Ioseph mater et mater filiorum Zebedaei
57 When evening had come, a rich man from Arimateh, named Joseph, who himself was also Yeshua's talmid came.
cum sero autem factum esset venit quidam homo dives ab Arimathia nomine Ioseph qui et ipse discipulus erat Iesu
58 This man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Yeshua. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given up.
hic accessit ad Pilatum et petiit corpus Iesu tunc Pilatus iussit reddi corpus
59 Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
et accepto corpore Ioseph involvit illud sindone munda
60 and placed it in his own new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.
et posuit illud in monumento suo novo quod exciderat in petra et advolvit saxum magnum ad ostium monumenti et abiit
61 Miriam from Magdala was there, and the other Miriam, sitting opposite the tomb.
erat autem ibi Maria Magdalene et altera Maria sedentes contra sepulchrum
62 Now on the next day, which was the day after the Preparation Day, the chief cohanim and the Pharisees were gathered together to Pilate,
altera autem die quae est post parasceven convenerunt principes sacerdotum et Pharisaei ad Pilatum
63 saying, "Sir, we remember what that deceiver said while he was still alive: 'After three days I will rise again.'
dicentes domine recordati sumus quia seductor ille dixit adhuc vivens post tres dies resurgam
64 Command therefore that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest perhaps his talmidim come and steal him away, and tell the people, 'He is risen from the dead;' and the last deception will be worse than the first."
iube ergo custodiri sepulchrum usque in diem tertium ne forte veniant discipuli eius et furentur eum et dicant plebi surrexit a mortuis et erit novissimus error peior priore
65 Pilate said to them, "You have a guard. Go, make it as secure as you can."
ait illis Pilatus habetis custodiam ite custodite sicut scitis
66 So they went with the guard and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone.
illi autem abeuntes munierunt sepulchrum signantes lapidem cum custodibus
