< Mark 10 >
1 He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Crowds came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them.
And he arose from thence, and comes into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was known, he taught them again.
2 Pharisees came to him testing him, and asked him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"
And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.
3 He answered, "What did Moses command you?"
And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
4 They said, "Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her."
And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
5 But Yeshua said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment.
And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6 But from the beginning of the creation, he made them male and female.
But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7 For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife,
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8 and the two will become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.
And they two shall be one flesh: so then they are no more two, but one flesh.
9 What therefore God has joined together, let no one separate."
What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.
10 In the house, the talmidim asked him again about the same matter.
And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
11 He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her.
And he says unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, commits adultery against her.
12 If she herself divorces her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery."
And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she commits adultery.
13 They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the talmidim rebuked them.
And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.
14 But when Yeshua saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, "Allow the little children to come to me. Do not forbid them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
15 Truly I tell you, whoever will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter into it."
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
16 And he took them in his arms, laying his hands on them, and blessed them.
And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
17 As he was going out into the way, one ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do that I may inherit everlasting life?" (aiōnios )
And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? (aiōnios )
18 Yeshua said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except one—God.
And Jesus said unto him, Why call you me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
19 You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not murder,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not give false testimony,' 'Do not defraud,' 'Honor your father and mother.'"
You know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour your father and mother.
20 And he said to him, "Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth."
And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
21 Yeshua looking at him loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross."
Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing you lack: go your way, sell whatsoever you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22 But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions.
And he was sad at that saying, (logos) and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
23 Yeshua looked around, and said to his talmidim, "How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdom of God."
And Jesus looked round about, and says unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24 The talmidim were amazed at his words. But Yeshua answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God.
And the disciples were astonished at his words. (logos) But Jesus answers again, and says unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich person to enter into the Kingdom of God."
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, "Then who can be saved?"
And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 Yeshua, looking at them, said, "With humans it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God."
And Jesus looking upon them says, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
28 Peter began to tell him, "Look, we have left everything, and have followed you."
Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed you.
29 Yeshua said, "Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News,
And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that has left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
30 but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come, everlasting life. (aiōn , aiōnios )
But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. (aiōn , aiōnios )
31 But many who are first will be last; and the last first."
But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.
32 They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Yeshua was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him.
And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,
33 "Look, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief cohanim and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to foreigners.
Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
34 They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and kill him. After three days he will rise again."
And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
35 Jacob and John, the sons of Zavdai, came near to him, and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask."
And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that you should do for us whatsoever we shall desire.
36 He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?"
And he said unto them, What would all of you that I should do for you?
37 They said to him, "Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right hand, and one at your left hand, in your glory."
They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on your right hand, and the other on your left hand, in your glory.
38 But Yeshua said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with?"
But Jesus said unto them, All of you know not what all of you ask: can all of you drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
39 And they said to him, "We are able." And Yeshua said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink, and you will be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with;
And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, All of you shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized likewise shall all of you be baptized:
40 but to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared."
But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
41 When the ten heard it, they began to be indignant towards Jacob and John.
And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.
42 Yeshua summoned them, and said to them, "You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
But Jesus called them to him, and says unto them, All of you know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
43 But it will not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.
But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
44 And whoever wants to be first among you must be slave of all.
And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
45 For the Son of Man also did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
46 They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho, with his talmidim and a large crowd, Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.
And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
47 When he heard that it was Yeshua of Natzeret, he began to cry out, and say, "Yeshua, Son of David, have mercy on me."
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me.
48 Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he shouted all the louder, "Son of David, have mercy on me."
And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, You son of David, have mercy on me.
49 Yeshua stood still, and said, "Call him." They called the blind man, saying to him, "Cheer up. Get up. He is calling you."
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calls you.
50 He, casting away his coat, jumped up, and came to Yeshua.
And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 Yeshua asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "Rabboni, that I may see again."
And Jesus answered and said unto him, What will you that I should do unto you? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 Yeshua said to him, "Go your way. Your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight, and followed him on the road.
And Jesus said unto him, Go your way; your faith has made you whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
