Isaiah 36
1 Now it happened in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all of the fortified cities of Judah, and captured them.
Agora no décimo quarto ano do rei Ezequias, Sennacheribe, rei da Assíria, atacou todas as cidades fortificadas de Judá e as capturou.
2 The king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to king Hezekiah with a large army. He stood by the aqueduct from the upper pool on the highway to the Launderers' Field.
O rei da Assíria enviou Rabsaqué de Laquis a Jerusalém para o rei Ezequias com um grande exército. Ele ficou ao lado do aqueduto da piscina superior da rodovia de campo mais cheia.
3 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder came out to him.
Então Eliakim, o filho de Hilquias, que estava sobre a casa, e Shebna, o escriba, e Joaquim, o filho de Asafe, o gravador, saíram para ele.
4 Rabshakeh said to them, "Now tell Hezekiah, 'Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, "What confidence is this in which you trust?
Rabshakeh disse-lhes: “Agora digam a Ezequias: 'O grande rei, o rei da Assíria, diz: “Que confiança é essa em que vocês confiam?
5 Do you think that empty words are strategy and power for war? Now in whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?
Eu digo que seus conselhos e sua força para a guerra são apenas palavras vãs. Em quem você confia, que você se rebelou contra mim?
6 Look, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
Eis que você confia no bastão desta cana machucada, mesmo no Egito, que se um homem se inclina sobre ela, ela entrará em sua mão e a perfurará. Assim é o faraó rei do Egito para todos os que confiam nele.
7 But if you tell me, 'We trust in the LORD our God,' isn't that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, 'You shall worship before this altar?'"
Mas se vocês me disserem: 'Nós confiamos em Javé nosso Deus', não é aquele cujos lugares altos e cujos altares Ezequias tirou, e disse a Judá e a Jerusalém: 'Vocês adorarão diante deste altar...'”.
8 Now therefore, please make a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.
Agora, portanto, por favor, faça um juramento ao meu senhor, o rei da Assíria, e eu lhe darei dois mil cavalos, se você puder de sua parte colocar cavaleiros sobre eles.
9 How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
Como, então, você pode afastar o rosto de um capitão do menor dos servos de meu senhor, e depositar sua confiança no Egito para as carruagens e para os cavaleiros?
10 Have I come up now without the LORD against this land to destroy it? The LORD said to me, "Go up against this land, and destroy it."'"
Será que eu subi agora sem Iavé contra esta terra para destruí-la? Javé me disse: “Suba contra esta terra, e a destrua””.
11 Then Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to Rabshakeh, "Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it; and do not speak to us in the Jews' language in the hearing of the people who are on the wall."
Então Eliakim, Shebna e Joah disseram a Rabshakeh: “Por favor, fale com seus servos em Aramaico, pois nós entendemos isso. Não nos fale na língua dos judeus na audição das pessoas que estão no muro”.
12 But Rabshakeh said, "Has my master sent me only to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?"
Mas Rabshakeh disse: “Meu mestre me enviou apenas a seu mestre e a você, para dizer estas palavras, e não aos homens que se sentam na parede, que comerão seu próprio esterco e beberão sua própria urina com você”?
13 Then Rabshakeh stood, and called out with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, "Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
Então Rabshakeh levantou-se, e gritou com voz alta na língua dos judeus, e disse: “Ouvi as palavras do grande rei, o rei da Assíria!
14 Thus says the king, 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you.
O rei diz: “Não deixeis que Ezequias vos engane, pois ele não poderá entregar-vos.
15 Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, "The LORD will surely deliver us. This city won't be given into the hand of the king of Assyria."'
Não deixe que Ezequias o faça confiar em Iavé, dizendo: “Iavé certamente nos entregará”. Esta cidade não será entregue na mão do rei da Assíria”.
16 Do not listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria, 'Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and each of you eat from his vine, and each one from his fig tree, and each one of you drink the waters of his own cistern;
Não dê ouvidos a Ezequias, pois o rei da Assíria diz: 'Façam as pazes comigo e venham a mim; e cada um de vocês coma de sua videira, e cada um de sua figueira, e cada um de vocês beba as águas de sua própria cisterna;
17 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
até que eu venha e os leve para uma terra como sua própria terra, uma terra de grãos e vinho novo, uma terra de pão e vinhedos.
18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, "The LORD will deliver us." Have any of the gods of the nations delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria?
Cuidado para que Hezekiah não vos convença, dizendo: “Yahweh nos entregará”. Algum dos deuses das nações entregou suas terras da mão do rei da Assíria?
19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Iwah? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?
Onde estão os deuses de Hamath e Arpad? Onde estão os deuses de Sefarvaim? Eles entregaram Samaria da minha mão?
20 Who are they among all the gods of these countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'"
Quem são eles entre todos os deuses desses países que libertaram seu país da minha mão, que Javé deveria libertar Jerusalém da minha mão?'”.
21 But they remained silent, and said nothing in reply, for the king's commandment was, "Do not answer him."
Mas eles permaneceram em silêncio, e nada disseram em resposta, pois o mandamento do rei era: “Não lhe responda”.
22 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
Então Eliakim, o filho de Hilkiah, que estava sobre a casa, e Shebna, o escriba, e Joah, o filho de Asaph, o gravador, vieram a Hezekiah com suas roupas rasgadas, e lhe contaram as palavras de Rabshakeh.
