Exodus 5

1 Afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said to Pharaoh, "This is what the LORD, God of Israel, says, 'Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.'"

١ وَبَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ذَهَبَ مُوسَى وَهَرُونُ وَقَالا لِفِرْعَوْنَ: «هَذَا مَا يُعْلِنُهُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُ إِسْرَائِيلَ: أَطْلِقْ شَعْبِي لِيَحْتَفِلَ لِي فِي الْبَرِّيَّةِ».

2 Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and moreover I will not let Israel go."

٢ فَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ: «مَنْ هُوَ الرَّبُّ حَتَّى أُطِيعَ أَمْرَهُ وَأُطْلِقَ إِسْرَائِيلَ؟ أَنَا لَا أَعْرِفُ الرَّبَّ وَلَنْ أُطْلِقَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ».

3 They said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to our God, lest he fall on us with pestilence, or with the sword."

٣ ثُمَّ قَالا: «إِنَّ إِلَهَ الْعِبْرَانِيِّينَ قَدِ الْتَقَانَا، فَدَعْنَا نَذْهَبُ مَسِيرَةَ ثَلاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ فِي الصَّحْرَاءِ لِنُقَدِّمَ ذَبَائِحَ لِلرَّبِّ إِلَهِنَا لِئَلّا يُعَاقِبَنَا بِوَبَأٍ أَوْ سَيْفٍ».

4 The king of Egypt said to them, "Why do you, Moses and Aaron, take the people from their work? Get back to your burdens."

٤ فَقَالَ لَهُمَا مَلِكُ مِصْرَ: «يَا مُوسَى وَهَرُونُ، لِمَاذَا تُعَطِّلانِ الشَّعْبَ عَنْ أَعْمَالِهِ؟ ارْجِعُوا إِلَى أَعْمَالِكُمُ الشَّاقَةِ».

5 Pharaoh said, "Look, the people of the land are now many, and you make them rest from their burdens."

٥ ثُمَّ قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ: «هُوَذَا شَعْبُ الأَرْضِ قَدْ كَثُرَ الآنَ، وَأَنْتُمَا تُرِيدَانِ أَنْ تُرِيحَاهُمْ مِنَ الأَعْمَالِ الشَّاقَةِ».

6 The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

٦ فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ أَمَرَ فِرْعَوْنُ الْقَائِمِينَ عَلَى تَسْخِيرِ الشَّعْبِ وَرُؤَسَاءَ الْعُمَّالِ قَائِلاً:

7 "You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick, as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

٧ «كُفُّوا عَنْ إِعْطَاءِ الشَّعْبِ تِبْناً لِصُنْعِ اللِّبْنِ كَمَا كُنْتُمْ تَفْعَلُونَ سَابِقاً، وَلْيَذْهَبُوا هُمْ وَيَجْمَعُوا تِبْناً لأَنْفُسِهِمْ.

8 The number of the bricks, which they made before, you require from them. You shall not diminish anything of it, for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, 'Let us go and sacrifice to our God.'

٨ وَطَالِبُوهُمْ بِإِنْتَاجِ نَفْسِ كَمِّيَّةِ اللِّبْنِ السَّابِقَةِ. لَا تُنْقِصُوهَا فَإِنَّهُمْ كُسَالَى، لِذَلِكَ يَصْرُخُونَ قَائِلِينَ: دَعْنَا نَذْهَبُ وَنَذْبَحُ لإِلَهِنَا.

9 Let heavier work be laid on the men, so they may labor at it and pay no attention to lying words."

٩ ثَقِّلُوا الْعَمَلَ عَلَى كَوَاهِلِ الْقَوْمِ حَتَّى يَشْتَغِلُوا بِهِ وَلا يَلْتَفِتُوا إِلَى الأَقْوَالِ الْكَاذِبَةِ».

10 The taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, This is what Pharaoh says: "I will not give you straw.

١٠ فَخَرَجَ مُسَخِّرُو الشَّعْبِ وَرُؤَسَاءُ الْعُمَّالِ وَخَاطَبُوا الشَّعْبَ قَائِلِينَ: «هَكَذَا يَقُولُ فِرْعَوْنُ: لَنْ أُعْطِيَكُمْ تِبْناً.

11 Go yourselves, get straw where you can find it, for nothing of your work shall be diminished."

١١ اذْهَبُوا أَنْتُمْ وَاجْمَعُوا لأَنْفُسِكُمْ تِبْناً حَيْثُ تَجِدُونَهُ عَلَى أَلّا يَنْقُصَ إِنْتَاجُكُمْ».

12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather dry stalks for straw.

١٢ فَتَفَرَّقَ الشَّعْبُ فِي كُلِّ أَرْضِ مِصْرَ لِيَجْمَعُوا قَشّاً بَدَلاً مِنَ التِّبْنِ.

13 The taskmasters kept pressing them, saying, "Fulfill your work quota, your daily amount, as when there was straw."

١٣ وَكَانَ الْمُسَخِّرُونَ يَلِحُّونَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَائِلِينَ: «أَوْفُوا أَعْمَالَكُمْ، إِنْتَاجَ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ بِيَوْمِهِ كَمَا كَانَ الْحَالُ حِينَ تَوَافَرَ التِّبْنُ».

14 The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, "Why haven't you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?"

١٤ وَجَلَدَ مُسَخِّرُو فِرْعَوْنَ رْؤَسَاءَ الْعُمَّالِ الَّذِينَ أَقَامُوهُمْ عَلَى بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَائِلِينَ لَهُمْ: «لِمَاذَا لَمْ تُوْفُوا قِسْطَكُمْ مِنْ إِنْتَاجِ اللِّبْنِ أَمْسِ وَالْيَوْمَ كَمَا كُنْتُمْ تَفْعَلُونَ سَابِقاً؟»

15 Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, "Why do you deal this way with your servants?

١٥ فَأَقْبَلَ رُؤَسَاءُ عُمَّالِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَتَوَسَّلُوا إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ قَائِلِينَ: «لِمَاذَا تَفْعَلُ هَكَذَا بِعَبِيدِكَ؟

16 No straw is given to your servants, and they tell us, 'Make bricks.' And look, your servants are beaten, but the fault is with your own people."

١٦ إِنَّ عَبِيدَكَ لَا يَحْصُلُونَ عَلَى التِّبْنِ، وَمُطَالَبُونَ بِكَمِّيَّةِ اللِّبْنِ نَفْسِهَا، وَيُجْلَدُ عَبِيْدُكَ أَيْضاً. وَلَكِنَّ الذَّنْبَ هُوَ ذَنْبُ شَعْبِكَ».

17 But he said, "You are slackers! Slackers! Therefore you say, 'Let us go and sacrifice to God.'

١٧ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: «أَنْتُمْ كُسَالَى، لِذَلِكَ تَقُولُونَ: دَعْنَا نَذْهَبُ لِنَذْبَحَ لِلرَّبِّ.

18 Go therefore now, and work, for no straw shall be given to you, yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks."

١٨ هَيَّا اذْهَبُوا وَاعْمَلُوا، فَالتِّبْنُ لَنْ يُعْطَى لَكُمْ، وَعَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تُنْتِجُوا كَامِلَ كَمِّيَّةِ اللِّبْنِ نَفْسِهَا».

19 The officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble, when it was said, "You shall not diminish anything from your daily quota of bricks."

١٩ فَوَجَدَ رُؤَسَاءُ عُمَّالِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ فِي وَرْطَةٍ سَيِّئَةٍ بَعْدَ أَنْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنْتِجُوا مِنْ لِبْنِكُمْ فَرِيضَةَ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ بِيَوْمِهِ. لَا تُنْقِصُوا مِنْهَا شَيْئاً

20 They met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:

٢٠ وَصَادَفُوا مُوسَى وَهَرُونَ وَهُمَا وَاقِفَانِ فِي انْتِظَارِهِمْ عِنْدَ خُروجِهِمْ مِنْ لَدُنْ فِرْعَوْنَ

21 and they said to them, "May God look at you, and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us."

٢١ فَقَالُوا لَهُمَا: «لِيَنْظُرْ إِلَيْكُمَا الرَّبُّ وَيَقْضِ. لَقَدْ كَرَّهْتُمَا فِينَا فِرْعَوْنَ وَحَاشِيَتَهُ، وَأَعْطَيْتُمَاهُمْ سَيْفاً فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ لِيَقْتُلُونَا».

22 Moses returned to the LORD, and said, "Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it that you have sent me?

٢٢ فَرَجَعَ مُوسَى إِلَى الرَّبِّ وَقَالَ: «لِمَاذَا أَسَأْتَ إِلَى شَعْبِكَ يَا رَبُّ؟ لِمَاذَا أَرْسَلْتَنِي؟

23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people; neither have you delivered your people at all."

٢٣ فَمُنْذُ أَنْ جِئْتُ لأُخَاطِبَ فِرْعَوْنَ بِاسْمِكَ، أَسَاءَ إِلَى الشَّعْبِ، وَأَنْتَ لَمْ تُخَلِّصْ شَعْبَكَ عَلَى الإِطْلاقِ».
