Esther 7
1 So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.
Le roi et Aman vinrent donc s’asseoir au festin avec la reine Esther.
2 The king said again to Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, "What is your petition, queen Esther? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed."
Et le second jour encore, le roi dit à Esther pendant le festin, à l’heure du vin: "Fais connaître ta demande; reine Esther, et elle te sera accordée; dis ce que tu souhaites: quand ce serait la moitié du royaume, tu l’obtiendrais."
3 Then Esther the queen answered, "If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request.
La reine Esther répondit en ces termes: "Si j’ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, et si tel est le bon plaisir du roi, puisse-t-on, à ma demande, me faire don de la vie et, à ma requête, sauver mon peuple!
4 For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondservants and bondmaids, I would have held my peace, although the adversary could not have compensated for the king's loss."
Car nous avons été vendus moi-même et mon peuple, pour être détruits, exterminés, anéantis. Si du moins nous avions été vendus pour être esclaves ou servantes, j’aurais gardé le silence; asurément le persécuteur n’a pas le souci du domage causé au roi.
5 Then King Achashyerosh said to Esther the queen, "Who is he, and where is he who dared presume in his heart to do so?"
Le roi Assuérus se récria et dit à la reine Esther: "Qui est-il, où est-il, celui qui a eu l’audace d’agir de la sorte?
6 Esther said, "An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman." Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.
Cet homme, répliqua Esther, cruel et acharné; c’est ce méchant Aman que voilà!" Aman fut atterré en présence du roi et de la reine.
7 The king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden. Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
Le roi s’était dans sa colère, levé du festin pour gagner le parc du palais, tandis qu’Aman se redressa pour demander grâce de la vie à la reine Esther, car il voyait que sa perte était résolue par le roi.
8 Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman had fallen on the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, "Will he even assault the queen in front of me in the house?" As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.
Comme le roi revenait du parc du palais dans la salle du festin, il vit Aman qui s’était laissé tomber sur le divan occupé par Esther: "Comment, s’écria le roi, tu vas jusqu’à faire violence à la reine en ma présence, dans mon palais!" L’Ordre en fut donné par le roi, et on voila le visage d’Aman.
9 Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who were with the king said, "Look, the gallows seventy-three feet eight inches high, which Haman has made for Mordecai, who spoke good for the king, is standing at Haman's house." The king said, "Hang him on it."
Alors Harbona, un des eunuques, dit devant le roi: "Ne voilà-t-il pas que la potence, préparée par Aman pour Mardochée, qui a parlé pour le salut du roi, se dresse dans la maison d’Aman, haute de cinquante coudées! Qu’on l’y pende!" s’écria le roi.
10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.
On attacha donc Aman à la potence qu’il avait préparée pour Mardochée. Et la colère du roi s’apaisa.
