1 Kings 17
1 And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except by my word."
Bấy giờ, Ê-li người Tích-bê, thuộc Ga-la-át nói với A-háp: “Tôi đứng trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời Hằng Sống của Ít-ra-ên, quả quyết rằng trong những năm sắp tới sẽ không có sương cũng không có mưa, cho đến khi tôi tuyên bố lại!”
2 And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán cùng Ê-li:
3 "Go away from here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Wadi Cherith, that is near the Jordan.
“Hãy đi về hướng đông, ẩn mình tại Suối Cơ-rít, phía đông Sông Giô-đan.
4 And it shall be that you will drink from the wadi. I have commanded the ravens to feed you there."
Tại đó, con sẽ uống nước suối, còn thức ăn, Ta sẽ sai quạ đem đến.”
5 So he went and did according to the word of the LORD; for he went and lived by the Wadi Cherith, that is near the Jordan.
Ê-li vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu, đi trú bên Suối Cơ-rít, về phía đông Sông Giô-đan.
6 And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening. And he drank from the wadi.
Quạ mang bánh và thịt cho ông mỗi buổi sáng và buổi chiều. Khi khát, ông uống nước suối.
7 And it happened after a while that the wadi dried up, because there was no rain in the land.
Một thời gian sau, dòng suối cạn khô, vì trong xứ không có mưa.
8 The word of the LORD came to him, saying,
Chúa Hằng Hữu lại bảo Ê-li:
9 "Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Look, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you."
“Đi đến Sa-rép-ta, thuộc Si-đôn, và cư ngụ tại đó. Ta sẽ sai một phụ nữ cung cấp thực phẩm cho con.”
10 So he got up and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, look, a widow was there gathering wood. And he called to her, and said, "Please bring me a little water in a pitcher, that I may drink."
Vậy, Ê-li đi Sa-rép-ta. Khi tới cổng thành này, ông thấy một góa phụ đang nhặt củi, liền nói: “Chị vui lòng đem một ít nước cho tôi uống với.”
11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her, and said, "Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand."
Khi người sắp đem nước tới, ông lại nói: “Cho tôi xin một miếng bánh nữa.”
12 She said, "As the LORD your God lives, I do not have anything baked, except a handful of flour in a jar, and a little oil in a jug. Look, I am gathering a couple of sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die."
Người ấy đáp: “Tôi thề trước Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của ông, rằng tôi không có bánh, chỉ còn lại vỏn vẹn một nắm bột trong bình và một chút dầu trong chai. Bây giờ, tôi đi nhặt mấy que củi đem về nấu nướng cho hai mẹ con tôi ăn, và sau đó chỉ còn chờ chết.”
13 And Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid. Go and do as you have said. But make me of it a little cake first, and bring it out to me, and afterward make some for yourself and for your son.
Ê-li bảo bà: “Đừng sợ! Hãy về nấu nướng, nhưng trước hết, hãy làm một cái bánh nhỏ đem ra đây cho ta. Sau đó, hãy làm bánh cho chị và con trai chị.
14 For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'The jar of flour shall not empty, neither shall the jug of oil be empty, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the surface of the land.'"
Vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, phán: ‘Bột sẽ không hết, dầu sẽ không cạn cho đến ngày Chúa Hằng Hữu cho mưa rơi xuống đất.’”
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah. And she, and he, and her household, ate for a long time.
Người ấy làm theo lời Ê-li dạy. Như thế qua nhiều ngày, Ê-li cùng hai mẹ con đó vẫn có lương thực.
16 The jar of flour did not empty, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Elijah.
Bình bột không hết, chai dầu không cạn, đúng như lời Chúa Hằng Hữu dùng Ê-li báo trước.
17 It happened after these things, that the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. And his illness became so severe that he could no longer breathe.
Một hôm, con trai của góa phụ lâm bệnh. Bệnh ngày càng nặng, và cuối cùng qua đời.
18 Then she said to Elijah, "What do we have in common, O man of God? Have you come to me to remind me of my sin and kill my son?"
Góa phụ hỏi Ê-li: “Người của Đức Chúa Trời ơi! Sao ông hại tôi? Ông đến để bới tội tôi rồi giết con tôi phải không?”
19 And he said to her, "Give me your son." And he took him out of her lap and carried him up into the room where he stayed, and laid him on his own bed.
Nhưng Ê-li bảo: “Hãy trao nó cho tôi.” Ông bế đứa con từ tay mẹ nó, đem nó lên gác chỗ ông ở, và đặt nó lên giường.
20 He cried to the LORD, and said, "LORD my God, have you also brought disaster on the widow with whom I sojourn, by killing her son?"
Ông kêu cầu Chúa Hằng Hữu: “Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của con! Sao Chúa giáng họa trên bà góa này, người đã mở cửa tiếp con, gây ra cái chết cho con bà?”
21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and called out to the LORD, and said, "LORD my God, please let this child's soul come into him again."
Ông nằm dài trên mình đứa bé ba lần, và kêu xin Chúa Hằng Hữu: “Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của con! Xin cho hồn đứa bé trở lại với nó.”
22 The LORD listened to the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
Chúa Hằng Hữu nghe lời Ê-li cầu xin và cho đứa bé sống lại.
23 And Elijah took the child and brought him down out of the room into the house and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, "See, your son lives."
Ê-li bế nó xuống nhà, giao cho mẹ nó, và nói: “Hãy xem! Con chị vẫn sống!”
24 And the woman said to Elijah, "Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is the truth."
Rồi góa phụ nói với Ê-li: “Bây giờ tôi nhận ra rằng ông thật là người của Đức Chúa Trời, và lời của Chúa Hằng Hữu phán qua miệng ông là chân thật.”
