Psalms 1

1 Blessed is the one who doesn't follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path of sinners, or join in with scoffers.

Heil dem, der nicht einhergeht nach der Frevler Weise, / Der sich nicht einläßt auf den Weg der Sünder / Noch in der Spötter Kreis sich mischt,

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Der vielmehr am Gesetze Jahwes sich ergötzt / Und Tag und Nacht darüber forschend sinnt!

3 He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper.

So gleicht er einem Baum, gepflanzt an Wasserbächen, / Der seine Früchte bringt zu rechter Zeit / Und dessen Blätterschmuck nicht welkt: / Sein ganzes Tun gerät ihm wohl.

4 Not so with the wicked; instead, they are like the chaff which the wind drives away.

Ganz anders ist es mit den Frevlern! / Sie werden wie die Spreu vom Wind verweht.

5 Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

Drum können auch die Frevler im Gericht nicht bestehn / Noch Sünder bleiben unter den Gerechten.

6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall perish.

Denn Jahwe kennt der Gerechten Weg, / Der Weg der Frevler aber endet im Verderben!
