Proverbs 24
1 Do not be envious of evil men; neither desire to be with them:
Ne irigykedjél a rosszaság embereire, és ne kívánkozzál velök lenni;
2 for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about mischief.
mert pusztítást gondol ki szívök és bajt beszélnek ajkaik.
3 Through wisdom a house is built; by understanding it is established;
Bölcsesség által épül fel a ház és értelem által szilárdul meg;
4 by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure.
és tudás által telnek meg a kamarák, mindennemű drága és kedves vagyonnal.
5 A wise man has great power; and a knowledgeable man increases strength;
Bölcs férfi hatalmas és a tudás embere bátor erejű.
6 for by wise guidance you wage your war; and victory is in many advisors.
Mert útmutatásokkal viselhetsz háborút, és győzelem van a tanácsosok sokaságában.
7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: he doesn't open his mouth in the gate.
Magas az oktalannak a bölcsesség: a kapuban nem nyitja meg a száját.
8 One who plots to do evil will be called a schemer.
A ki azon gondolkodik, hogy rosszat tegyen, azt fondorlatok emberének hívják.
9 The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.
Oktalanság gondolata a vétek, és utálata az embereknek a csúfoló.
10 If you falter in the time of trouble, your strength is small.
Ha elernyedtél a szükség napján, szűknek bizonyult az erőd.
11 Rescue those who are being led away to death. Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter.
Mentsd meg a halálra vitteket, és a megölésre támolygókat hát ha elvonnád.
12 If you say, "Look, we did not know this;" doesn't he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn't he know it? Shall he not render to every man according to his work?
Ha azt mondod: lám nem tudtunk róla, nemde a szívek meghatározója, ő ügyel rá, és lelked megóvója – ő tudja, és viszonoz az embernek tette szerint.
13 My son, eat honey, for it is good; the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste.
Egyél, fiam, mézet, mert jó, és színméz édes az ínyednek:
14 Likewise, know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you have found it, then there will be a reward, and your hope will not be cut off.
ilyen, tudd meg, a bölcsesség a te lelkednek; ha megtaláltad, van jövendő és reményed nem írtatik ki.
15 Do not lie in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous. Do not destroy his resting place.
Ne leselkedjél, te gonosz, az igaznak hajlékára, ne pusztítsd el heverő helyét;
16 For the righteous may fall seven times, but gets up again, but the wicked will stumble in adversity.
mert hétszer elesik az igaz, de fölkel, de a gonoszok megbotlanak a szerencsétlenségben.
17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls. Do not let your heart be glad when he is overthrown;
Midőn elesik az ellenséged, ne örülj, s midőn megbotlik, ne vigadjon szíved;
18 lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
nehogy lássa az Örökkévaló és rossznak tetszenék szemeiben és elfordítaná tőle haragját.
19 Do not fret yourself because of evildoers; neither be envious of the wicked:
Ne gerjedj föl a gonosztevők ellen, ne irigykedjél a gonoszokra;
20 for there will be no reward to the evil man; and the lamp of the wicked shall be snuffed out.
mert nem lesz jövendője a rossznak, a gonoszok mécsese kialszik.
21 My son, fear the LORD and the king. Do not join those who are rebellious:
Féljed az Örökkévalót, fiam, és a királyt, az elszakadókkal ne állj össze;
22 for their calamity will rise suddenly; the destruction from them both—who knows?
mert hírtelen támad szerencsétlenségük, és mindkettejük balvégzetét ki ismeri?
23 These also are sayings of the wise. To show partiality in judgment is not good.
Ezek is bölcsektől valók. Személyt válogatni az ítéletben nem jó.
24 He who says to the wicked, "You are righteous;" peoples shall curse him, and nations shall abhor him—
A ki azt mondja a gonosznak: igaz vagy, azt átkozzák a népek, szidják a nemzetek;
25 but it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and a rich blessing will come on them.
de a megfeddőknek kellemes lesz a dolguk, és reájuk száll a jónak áldása.
26 An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.
Az ajkakat csókolja, a ki helyes szavakkal válaszol.
27 Prepare your work outside, and get your fields ready. Afterwards, build your house.
Készítsd el odakünn munkádat, és intézd el azt magadnak a mezőn; azután építsd fel házadat.
28 Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause. Do not deceive with your lips.
Ne légy ok nélkül tanú felebarátod ellen; vajon ámítanád-e ajkaiddal?
29 Do not say, "I will do to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work."
Ne mondd: amint velem tett, úgy teszek ő vele, viszonzok az embernek tette szerint.
30 I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
Rest ember mezeje mellett mentem el, és esztelen ember szőlleje mellett;
31 Look, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.
s íme egészen benőtte a tövis, ellepte színét a csalán, és kőfala le volt rombolva.
32 Then I saw, and considered well. I saw, and received instruction:
Néztem én, ráfordítottam szívemet, láttam, tanulságot vettem.
33 a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep;
Egy kis alvás, egy kis szendergés, egy kis kézösszekulcsolás, hogy feküdj;
34 so your poverty will come as a robber, and your want as an armed man.
majd el jön vándorként a te szegénységed és szűkölködésed, mint a pajzsos férfi.
