Judges 20
1 Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, to the LORD at Mizpah.
Entonces todos los hijos de Israel salieron desde Dan hasta Beerseba y la tierra de Galaad, y la congregación se reunió como un solo hombre ante Yavé en Mizpa.
2 The leaders of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen who drew sword.
Los jefes de todo el pueblo, de todas las tribus de Israel, 400.000 hombres de a pie que sacaban espada, tomaron su posición en la asamblea del pueblo de ʼElohim.
3 (Now the people of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) The children of Israel said, "Tell us, how did this wickedness happen?"
Los hijos de Benjamín oyeron que los hijos de Israel habían subido a Mizpa. Los hijos de Israel dijeron: Digan cómo fue cometida esta perversidad.
4 The Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered and said, "I came into Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, I and my secondary wife, to spend the night.
Y el levita, el marido de la mujer asesinada, respondió: Yo llegué a Gabaa de Benjamín con mi concubina para pasar allí la noche.
5 And the leaders of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house at night. They intended to kill me, and they raped my secondary wife, and she is dead.
Los hombres de Gabaa se alzaron contra mí, rodearon la casa de noche con intención de matarme, y violaron a mi concubina de tal manera que murió.
6 I took my secondary wife, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the territory of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed wickedness and disgrace in Israel.
Yo tomé a mi concubina, la corté en trozos y la envié por todo el territorio de la posesión de Israel, porque habían cometido aquella maldad e infamia en Israel.
7 Look, you children of Israel, all of you, give your advice and counsel here."
Miren, todos ustedes los hijos de Israel están presentes. Den aquí su parecer y consejo.
8 All the people arose as one man, saying, "None of us will go to his tent, neither will any of us return to his house.
Entonces todo el pueblo se levantó como un solo hombre y dijeron: Ninguno de nosotros irá a su tienda, ni volverá a su casa.
9 But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot;
Esto es lo que ahora haremos en Gabaa: Iremos contra ella por sorteo.
10 and we will take ten men of one hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred of one thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to get food for the people, those setting forth, that when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin they may repay all the disgrace that they have committed in Israel."
Tomaremos diez hombres de cada centenar de todas las tribus de Israel, y 100 de cada 1.000, y 1.000 de cada 10.000, para que lleven provisiones al pueblo, a fin de que vayan a Gabaa de Benjamín y le hagan según toda la repugnancia que cometió en Israel.
11 So all the men of Israel gathered against the city, united as one man.
Así todos los hombres de Israel unidos se juntaron contra la ciudad como un solo hombre.
12 The tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, "What wickedness is this that has happened among you?
Y las tribus de Israel enviaron hombres por toda la tribu de Benjamín para decir: ¿Qué maldad es esta que cometieron ustedes?
13 Now therefore deliver up the men, the wicked men who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel." But the sons of Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers, the children of Israel.
Ahora pues, entreguen a los hombres, aquellos perversos que están en Gabaa, para que los matemos y quitemos esta infamia de Israel. Pero los hijos de Benjamín no quisieron escuchar la voz de sus hermanos, los hijos de Israel.
14 The people of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities to Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
Mas bien, los hijos de Benjamín salieron de sus ciudades y se reunieron en Gabaa para enfrentar en batalla a los hijos de Israel.
15 The people of Benjamin were numbered on that day out of the cities twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.
Fueron contados aquel día los hijos de Benjamín que salieron de las ciudades: 26.000 hombres que sacaban espada, además de los habitantes de Gabaa, donde se alistaron 700 hombres escogidos.
16 Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men left-handed; everyone could sling stones at a hair and not miss.
Entre toda esa gente estaban 700 hombres escogidos que eran zurdos. Cada uno podía tirar una piedra con la honda a un cabello y no erraba tiro.
17 The men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men who drew sword: all these were men of war.
Los hombres de Israel, aparte de Benjamín, ascendían a 400.000 hombres que sacaban espada, todos guerreros.
18 The children of Israel arose, and went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God; and they said, "Who shall go up for us first to battle against the people of Benjamin?" The LORD said, "Judah will go up first."
Se levantaron los hijos de Israel y subieron a Bet-ʼEl. Consultaron a ʼElohim: ¿Quién de nosotros irá primero a combatir contra los hijos de Benjamín? Y Yavé respondió: Primero Judá.
19 The children of Israel rose up in the morning, and camped against Gibeah.
Por la mañana se levantaron los hijos de Israel y acamparon contra Gabaa.
20 The men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.
Salieron los hijos de Israel a pelear contra Benjamín, y se alinearon en orden de batalla contra ellos junto a Gabaa.
21 The people of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites on that day twenty-two thousand men.
Pero los hijos de Benjamín salieron de Gabaa y derribaron a tierra aquel día 22.000 hombres de Israel.
22 The people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.
Pero el pueblo, los hombres de Israel, se reanimaron y volvieron a ordenar batalla en el mismo lugar donde la habían ordenado el día anterior.
23 The children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until evening; and they asked of the LORD, saying, "Shall I again draw near to battle against the people of Benjamin my brother?" The LORD said, "Go up against him."
Pues los hijos de Israel subieron y lloraron delante de Yavé hasta llegar la noche. Consultaron a Yavé: ¿Nos acercaremos otra vez a pelear contra los hijos de nuestro hermano Benjamín? Yavé dijo: Suban contra él.
24 The children of Israel came near against the people of Benjamin the second day.
Entonces los hijos de Israel llegaron contra los hijos de Benjamín el segundo día.
25 Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
Benjamín de Gabaa salió contra ellos el segundo día y otra vez cayeron a tierra 18.000 hombres de los hijos de Israel. Todos ellos sacaban espada.
26 Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until evening; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
Entonces todo el pueblo de los hijos de Israel subió, fueron a Bet-ʼEl y lloraron. Permanecieron allí delante de Yavé y ayunaron aquel día hasta llegar la noche. Sacrificaron holocaustos y ofrendas de paz delante de Yavé.
27 The children of Israel asked of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
Consultaron los hijos de Israel a Yavé, pues el Arca del Pacto de ʼElohim estaba allí aquellos días,
28 and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), "Shall I yet again go out to battle against the people of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?" The LORD said, "Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand."
y Finees, hijo de Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, ministraba ante ella en aquel tiempo. Preguntaron: ¿Volveremos a salir a luchar contra los hijos de nuestro hermano Benjamín, o desistiremos? Y Yavé dijo: ¡Suban, porque mañana lo entregaré en sus manos!
29 Israel set ambushes all around Gibeah.
Entonces Israel tendió emboscadas alrededor de Gabaa.
30 The children of Israel went up against the people of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
Al tercer día, cuando los hijos de Israel subieron contra los hijos de Benjamín, dispusieron batalla frente a Gabaa como las otras veces.
31 The people of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill some of the people, as at other times, on the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel, and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
Los hijos de Benjamín salieron para enfrentarse al pueblo y se alejaron de la ciudad. Como las otras veces, comenzaron a matar a algunos de ellos en los caminos, uno de los cuales sube a Bet-ʼEl y otro a Gabaa. Así mataron en el campo a unos 30 hombres de Israel.
32 The people of Benjamin said, "They are defeated before us, as previously." But the children of Israel said, "Let us flee, and draw them away from the city to the highways."
Los hijos de Benjamín decían: ¡Están vencidos ante nosotros como antes! Pero los hijos de Israel se habían dicho: Huiremos para alejarlos de la ciudad hasta los caminos.
33 All the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array at Baal Tamar. And the men of Israel in ambush rushed out of their place west of Geba.
Entonces todos los de Israel se levantaron de su posición y se dispusieron en orden de batalla en Baal-tamar, mientras que la emboscada de Israel se lanzó desde su posición al oeste de Gabaa.
34 There came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was severe; but they didn't know that disaster was close upon them.
10.000 hombres escogidos de todo Israel llegaron frente a Gabaa, y la batalla arreciaba, pero los benjaminitas no entendían que el desastre se les venía encima.
35 The LORD struck Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men: all armed with swords.
Aquel día Yavé derrotó a Benjamín ante Israel, y los hijos de Israel mataron a 25.100 hombres de Benjamín, todos los cuales sacaban espada.
36 So the people of Benjamin saw that they were defeated; for the men of Israel gave ground to Benjamin, because they trusted the ambushers whom they had set against Gibeah.
Los hijos de Benjamín vieron que eran derrotados. Sin embargo, los hijos de Israel cedieron campo a Benjamín, pues confiaban en la emboscada que pusieron contra Gabaa.
37 The ambushers hurried, and rushed on Gibeah; and the ambushers drew themselves along, and struck all the city with the edge of the sword.
Entonces la gente de la emboscada se apresuró y atacó a Gabaa. Se desplegó y mataron a filo de espada a toda la ciudad.
38 Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the ambushers was that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.
Era señal convenida entre los hombres de Israel y los de la emboscada, que éstos harían subir una gran humareda desde la ciudad.
39 The men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to strike and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said, "Surely they are defeated before us, as in the first battle."
Así, cuando los hombres de Israel volvieron la espalda en el combate, y los de Benjamín comenzaron a causar bajas entre los hombres de los de Israel y mataron a unos 30 hombres, pensaron: De seguro están derrotados ante nosotros como en el primer combate.
40 But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them; and look, the whole city went up in smoke into the sky.
Pero cuando la humareda comenzó a subir de la ciudad, los de Benjamín miraron hacia atrás y vieron que de la ciudad subía el humo al cielo.
41 The men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were terrified; for they saw that disaster had come on them.
Entonces los hombres de Israel se devolvieron, mientras los de Benjamín se consternaron, pues veían que la catástrofe cayó sobre ellos.
42 Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in its midst.
Por ello volvieron sus espaldas ante los hombres de Israel y tomaron el camino al desierto. Pero la batalla los alcanzó, mientras que los que salían de las ciudades eran exterminados en medio de ellas.
43 They surrounded Benjamin, and they pursued them from Nohah and overtook them near Gibeah toward the east.
Cercaron así a los benjamitas y los persiguieron sin tregua hasta frente a Gabaa, hacia donde nace el sol.
44 There fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valor.
De Benjamín cayeron 18.000 hombres, todos hombres valientes.
45 They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon: and they killed on the highways five thousand men, and followed hard after them to Gidom, and struck down two thousand men.
Los demás se volvieron y huyeron hacia el desierto, hasta la peña de Rimón. De ellos fueron abatidos en los caminos otros 5.000 hombres, y siguieron en la persecución hasta Gidom, donde mataron a 2.000 hombres más.
46 So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand swordsmen; all these were valiant fighters.
De manera que los que cayeron de Benjamín aquel día fueron 25.000 hombres que sacaban espada, todos hombres valientes.
47 But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and stayed in the rock of Rimmon four months.
Pero 600 hombres se volvieron y huyeron hacia el desierto, hasta la peña de Rimón, y se quedaron en la peña de Rimón cuatro meses.
48 The men of Israel turned again on the people of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, and the livestock, and all that they found: moreover all the cities which they found they set on fire.
Los de Israel se volvieron contra los hijos de Benjamín y los mataron a filo de espada, tanto hombres como animales, y todo lo que fue hallado, e incendiaron las ciudades.
