Yochanan 6
1 After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias.
post haec abiit Iesus trans mare Galilaeae quod est Tiberiadis
2 A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs which he did on those who were sick.
et sequebatur eum multitudo magna quia videbant signa quae faciebat super his qui infirmabantur
3 Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples.
subiit ergo in montem Iesus et ibi sedebat cum discipulis suis
4 Now the Passover, the Jewish festival, was near.
erat autem proximum pascha dies festus Iudaeorum
5 Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a large crowd was coming to him, said to Philip, "Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?"
cum sublevasset ergo oculos Iesus et vidisset quia multitudo maxima venit ad eum dicit ad Philippum unde ememus panes ut manducent hii
6 This he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.
hoc autem dicebat temptans eum ipse enim sciebat quid esset facturus
7 Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that everyone of them may receive a little."
respondit ei Philippus ducentorum denariorum panes non sufficiunt eis ut unusquisque modicum quid accipiat
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him,
dicit ei unus ex discipulis eius Andreas frater Simonis Petri
9 "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?"
est puer unus hic qui habet quinque panes hordiacios et duos pisces sed haec quid sunt inter tantos
10 Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
dixit ergo Iesus facite homines discumbere erat autem faenum multum in loco discubuerunt ergo viri numero quasi quinque milia
11 Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.
accepit ergo panes Iesus et cum gratias egisset distribuit discumbentibus similiter et ex piscibus quantum volebant
12 When they were filled, he said to his disciples, "Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost."
ut autem impleti sunt dixit discipulis suis colligite quae superaverunt fragmenta ne pereant
13 So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.
collegerunt ergo et impleverunt duodecim cofinos fragmentorum ex quinque panibus hordiaciis quae superfuerunt his qui manducaverunt
14 When therefore the people saw the sign which he did, they said, "This is truly the Prophet who comes into the world."
illi ergo homines cum vidissent quod fecerat signum dicebant quia hic est vere propheta qui venturus est in mundum
15 Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.
Iesus ergo cum cognovisset quia venturi essent ut raperent eum et facerent eum regem fugit iterum in montem ipse solus
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,
ut autem sero factum est descenderunt discipuli eius ad mare
17 and they entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
et cum ascendissent navem venerunt trans mare in Capharnaum et tenebrae iam factae erant et non venerat ad eos Iesus
18 The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing.
mare autem vento magno flante exsurgebat
19 When therefore they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.
cum remigassent ergo quasi stadia viginti quinque aut triginta vident Iesum ambulantem super mare et proximum navi fieri et timuerunt
20 But he said to them, "It is I. Do not be afraid."
ille autem dicit eis ego sum nolite timere
21 They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
voluerunt ergo accipere eum in navi et statim fuit navis ad terram quam ibant
22 On the next day, the crowd that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except one, and that Jesus had not entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone.
altera die turba quae stabat trans mare vidit quia navicula alia non erat ibi nisi una et quia non introisset cum discipulis suis Iesus in navem sed soli discipuli eius abissent
23 Other boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.
aliae vero supervenerunt naves a Tiberiade iuxta locum ubi manducaverant panem gratias agente Domino
24 When the crowd therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
cum ergo vidisset turba quia Iesus non esset ibi neque discipuli eius ascenderunt naviculas et venerunt Capharnaum quaerentes Iesum
25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?"
et cum invenissent eum trans mare dixerunt ei rabbi quando huc venisti
26 Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves, and were filled.
respondit eis Iesus et dixit amen amen dico vobis quaeritis me non quia vidistis signa sed quia manducastis ex panibus et saturati estis
27 Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed him." (aiōnios g166)
operamini non cibum qui perit sed qui permanet in vitam aeternam quem Filius hominis vobis dabit hunc enim Pater signavit Deus (aiōnios g166)
28 They said therefore to him, "What must we do, that we may work the works of God?"
dixerunt ergo ad eum quid faciemus ut operemur opera Dei
29 Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent."
respondit Iesus et dixit eis hoc est opus Dei ut credatis in eum quem misit ille
30 They said therefore to him, "What then do you do for a sign, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you do?
dixerunt ergo ei quod ergo tu facis signum ut videamus et credamus tibi quid operaris
31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, 'He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.'"
patres nostri manna manducaverunt in deserto sicut scriptum est panem de caelo dedit eis manducare
32 Jesus therefore said to them, "Truly, truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.
dixit ergo eis Iesus amen amen dico vobis non Moses dedit vobis panem de caelo sed Pater meus dat vobis panem de caelo verum
33 For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world."
panis enim Dei est qui descendit de caelo et dat vitam mundo
34 They said therefore to him, "Lord, always give us this bread."
dixerunt ergo ad eum Domine semper da nobis panem hunc
35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
dixit autem eis Iesus ego sum panis vitae qui veniet ad me non esuriet et qui credit in me non sitiet umquam
36 But I told you that you have seen me, and yet you do not believe.
sed dixi vobis quia et vidistis me et non creditis
37 All those whom the Father gives me will come to me. Him who comes to me I will in no way throw out.
omne quod dat mihi Pater ad me veniet et eum qui venit ad me non eiciam foras
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
quia descendi de caelo non ut faciam voluntatem meam sed voluntatem eius qui misit me
39 This is the will of him who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day.
haec est autem voluntas eius qui misit me Patris ut omne quod dedit mihi non perdam ex eo sed resuscitem illum novissimo die
40 This is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, should have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day." (aiōnios g166)
haec est enim voluntas Patris mei qui misit me ut omnis qui videt Filium et credit in eum habeat vitam aeternam et resuscitabo ego eum in novissimo die (aiōnios g166)
41 The Jewish people therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, "I am the bread which came down out of heaven."
murmurabant ergo Iudaei de illo quia dixisset ego sum panis qui de caelo descendi
42 They said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, 'I have come down out of heaven?'"
et dicebant nonne hic est Iesus filius Ioseph cuius nos novimus patrem et matrem quomodo ergo dicit hic quia de caelo descendi
43 Therefore Jesus answered them, "Do not murmur among yourselves.
respondit ergo Iesus et dixit eis nolite murmurare in invicem
44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.
nemo potest venire ad me nisi Pater qui misit me traxerit eum et ego resuscitabo eum novissimo die
45 It is written in the Prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.' Therefore everyone who hears and learns from the Father comes to me.
est scriptum in prophetis et erunt omnes docibiles Dei omnis qui audivit a Patre et didicit venit ad me
46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.
non quia Patrem vidit quisquam nisi is qui est a Deo hic vidit Patrem
amen amen dico vobis qui credit in me habet vitam aeternam (aiōnios g166)
48 I am the bread of life.
ego sum panis vitae
49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
patres vestri manducaverunt in deserto manna et mortui sunt
50 This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die.
hic est panis de caelo descendens ut si quis ex ipso manducaverit non moriatur
51 I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." (aiōn g165)

52 The Jews therefore argued with one another, saying, "How can this one give us flesh to eat?"
litigabant ergo Iudaei ad invicem dicentes quomodo potest hic nobis carnem suam dare ad manducandum
53 Jesus therefore said to them, "Truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves.
dixit ergo eis Iesus amen amen dico vobis nisi manducaveritis carnem Filii hominis et biberitis eius sanguinem non habetis vitam in vobis
54 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life, and I will raise him up at the last day. (aiōnios g166)
qui manducat meam carnem et bibit meum sanguinem habet vitam aeternam et ego resuscitabo eum in novissimo die (aiōnios g166)
55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
caro enim mea vere est cibus et sanguis meus vere est potus
56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.
qui manducat meam carnem et bibit meum sanguinem in me manet et ego in illo
57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he who feeds on me, he will also live because of me.
sicut misit me vivens Pater et ego vivo propter Patrem et qui manducat me et ipse vivet propter me
58 This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as the fathers ate, and died. He who eats this bread will live forever." (aiōn g165)
hic est panis qui de caelo descendit non sicut manducaverunt patres vestri manna et mortui sunt qui manducat hunc panem vivet in aeternum (aiōn g165)
59 He said these things in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
haec dixit in synagoga docens in Capharnaum
60 Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying. Who can listen to it?"
multi ergo audientes ex discipulis eius dixerunt durus est hic sermo quis potest eum audire
61 But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble?
sciens autem Iesus apud semet ipsum quia murmurarent de hoc discipuli eius dixit eis hoc vos scandalizat
62 Then what if you would see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?
si ergo videritis Filium hominis ascendentem ubi erat prius
63 It is the Spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
spiritus est qui vivificat caro non prodest quicquam verba quae ego locutus sum vobis spiritus et vita sunt
64 But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.
sed sunt quidam ex vobis qui non credunt sciebat enim ab initio Iesus qui essent credentes et quis traditurus esset eum
65 He said, "For this cause have I said to you that no one can come to me, unless it is given to him by the Father."
et dicebat propterea dixi vobis quia nemo potest venire ad me nisi fuerit ei datum a Patre meo
66 At this, many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
ex hoc multi discipulorum eius abierunt retro et iam non cum illo ambulabant
67 Jesus said therefore to the twelve, "You do not also want to go away, do you?"
dixit ergo Iesus ad duodecim numquid et vos vultis abire
68 Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)
respondit ergo ei Simon Petrus Domine ad quem ibimus verba vitae aeternae habes (aiōnios g166)
69 We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."
et nos credidimus et cognovimus quia tu es Christus Filius Dei
70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?"
respondit eis Iesus nonne ego vos duodecim elegi et ex vobis unus diabolus est
71 Now he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.
dicebat autem Iudam Simonis Scariotis hic enim erat traditurus eum cum esset unus ex duodecim
