1 Moreover, David and the captains of the army set apart for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, were to prophesy with harps, with stringed instruments, and with cymbals: and the number of those who did the work according to their service was:
David and the leaders of the Levites chose men from the families of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun to serve by prophesying accompanied by lyres, harps, and cymbals. Here is the list of those who performed this service:
2 of the sons of Asaph: Zakkur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph, under the hand of Asaph, who prophesied after the order of the king.
From the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah. These sons of Asaph were under the supervision of Asaph, who prophesied under the supervision of the king.
3 Of Jeduthun; the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, and Shimei, and Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the harp in giving thanks and praising the LORD.
From the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six in total, under the supervision of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied accompanied by the harp, giving thanks and praise to the Lord.
4 Of Heman; the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shubael, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth.
From the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.
5 All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
All these sons of Heman, the king's seer, were given to him through the promises of God to honor him, for God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, stringed instruments, and harps, for the service of God's house; Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman being under the order of the king.
All of them were under the supervision of their fathers for the music of the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres, for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the supervision of the king.
7 The number of them, with their brothers who were instructed in singing to the LORD, even all who were skillful, was two hundred eighty-eight.
Along with their relatives, all of them trained and skilled in singing to the LORD, they totaled 288.
8 And they cast lots, watch with watch, the small as the great, the teacher as the pupil.
They cast lots for whatever responsibility they had, the least important equal to the most important, the teacher to the student.
9 Now the first lot came out for Asaph of Joseph, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the second to Gedaliah, his brothers and his sons, twelve:
The first lot, which was for Asaph, fell to Joseph, his sons, and his brother, 12 in total. The second fell to Gedaliah, his sons, and his brothers, 12 in total.
10 the third to Zakkur, his sons and his brothers, twelve:
The third fell to Zaccur, his sons, and his brothers, 12 in total.
11 the fourth to Zeri, his sons and his brothers, twelve:
The fourth fell to Izri, his sons, and his brothers, 12 in total.
12 the fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve:
The fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and his brothers, 12 in total.
13 the sixth to Bukkiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve:

14 the seventh to Asarelah, his sons and his brothers, twelve:

20 for the thirteenth, Shubael, his sons and his brothers, twelve:

30 for the three and twentieth to Mahazioth, his sons and his brothers, twelve:

31 for the four and twentieth to Romamti-Ezer, his sons and his brothers, twelve.
The twenty-fourth fell to Romamti-Ezer, his sons and his brothers, 12 in total.
