1 Chronicles 21
1 And an adversary up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.
Men Satan stod op imot Israel og egget David til å telle Israel.
2 And David said to Joab and to the leaders of the people, "Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know the sum of them."
Da sa David til Joab og folkets høvedsmenn: Gå avsted og tell Israel fra Be'erseba like til Dan og kom så til mig med melding, så jeg kan få vite tallet på dem.
3 Joab said, "May the LORD make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, aren't they all my lord's servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?"
Da sa Joab: Herren legge hundre ganger så mange til sitt folk som de er nu! Er de ikke, herre konge, alle sammen min herres tjenere? Hvorfor krever min herre dette? Hvorfor skal det bli til skyld for Israel?
4 Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
Men kongen holdt fast ved sin befaling og gav ikke efter for Joab. Så tok da Joab ut og drog omkring i hele Israel og kom så tilbake til Jerusalem.
5 Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people to David. All those of Israel were one million one hundred thousand men who drew sword: and in Judah were four hundred seventy thousand men who drew sword.
Og Joab opgav for David det tall som var utkommet ved folkemønstringen. I hele Israel var det elleve hundre tusen mann som kunde dra sverd, og i Juda fire hundre og sytti tusen.
6 But he did not count Levi and Benjamin among them; for the king's word was abominable to Joab.
Men Levi og Benjamin hadde han ikke mønstret sammen med de andre; for kongens ord var en vederstyggelighet for Joab.
7 God was displeased with this thing; therefore he struck Israel.
Det som var skjedd, var ondt i Guds øine, og han slo Israel.
8 David said to God, "I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing. But now, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly."
Da sa David til Gud: Jeg har syndet storlig ved å gjøre dette; men tilgi nu din tjeners misgjerning, for jeg har båret mig meget uforstandig at.
9 The LORD spoke to Gad, David's seer, saying,
Men Herren talte til Gad, Davids seer, og sa:
10 "Go and speak to David, saying, 'Thus says the LORD, "I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you."'"
Gå og tal til David og si: Så sier Herren: Tre ting forelegger jeg dig; velg en av dem, sa vil jeg gjøre så mot dig!
11 So Gad came to David, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Take your choice:
Da kom Gad til David og sa til ham: Så sier Herren: Velg nu
12 either three years of famine; or three months of fleeing from before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even pestilence in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.'"
enten hungersnød i tre år eller å ligge under for dine motstandere i tre måneder, så du ikke kan undfly dine fienders sverd, eller at Herrens sverd og pest skal komme over landet i tre dager, og Herrens engel skal volde ødeleggelse i hele Israels landemerke! Tenk nu efter hvad jeg skal svare ham som har sendt mig!
13 David said to Gad, "I am in distress. Let me fall, I pray, into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are very great. Let me not fall into the hand of man."
David sa til Gad: Jeg er i stor angst; la mig da helst falle i Herrens hånd! For hans barmhjertighet er stor, men i menneskers hånd vil jeg nødig falle.
14 So the LORD sent a pestilence on Israel; and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.
Så lot Herren det komme en pest i Israel, og det falt sytti tusen mann av Israel.
15 God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, the LORD saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel, "It is enough; now stay your hand." The angel of the LORD was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Og Gud sendte en engel til Jerusalem for å ødelegge det. Men da han holdt på med å ødelegge, så Herren det, og han angret det onde og sa til engelen som gjorde ødeleggelse: Det er nok; dra nu din hånd tilbake! Herrens engel stod da ved jebusitten Ornans treskeplass.
16 David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.
Som nu David så op, fikk han se Herrens engel, som stod mellem jorden og himmelen med draget sverd i sin hånd og rakte det ut mot Jerusalem. Da falt David og de eldste ned på sitt ansikt, klædd i sekk.
17 David said to God, "Isn't it I who commanded the people to be numbered? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O LORD my God, be against me, and against my father's house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued."
Og David sa til Gud: Var det ikke jeg som bød at folket skulde telles? Det er jeg som har syndet og gjort ille; men denne min hjord, hvad har de gjort? Herre min Gud, la heller din hånd komme over mig og over min fars hus, men ikke over ditt folk, så det blir hjemsøkt!
18 Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to tell David that David should go up, and raise an altar to the LORD in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Da bød Herrens engel Gad å si til David at han skulde gå op og reise et alter for Herren på jebusitten Ornans treskeplass.
19 David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in the name of the LORD.
Så gikk David dit op efter det ord som Gad hadde talt i Herrens navn.
20 Ornan turned back, and saw the king, and his four sons who were with him hiding themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
Da nu Ornan vendte sig om, fikk han se engelen, og hans fire sønner, som var med ham, skjulte sig; Ornan holdt just på med å treske hvete.
21 As David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
Da David kom til Ornan, så Ornan ut og fikk se David; så gikk han ut av treskeplassen og kastet sig ned for David med ansiktet mot orden.
22 Then David said to Ornan, "Give me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build thereon an altar to the LORD. You shall sell it to me for the full price, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people."
Og David sa til Ornan: La mig få det sted hvor du har din treskeplass, så jeg kan bygge et alter for Herren der! La mig få det for dets fulle pris, forat hjemsøkelsen kan stanse og vike fra folket!
23 Ornan said to David, "Take it for yourself, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes. Look, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all."
Da sa Ornan til David: Ta det bare! Min herre kongen må gjøre hvad han finner for godt! Her gir jeg dig oksene til brennofferne og treskesledene til ved og hveten til matofferet; alt sammen gir jeg som gave.
24 King David said to Ornan, "No; but I will most certainly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is yours for the LORD, nor offer a burnt offering without cost."
Men kong David svarte: Nei, jeg vil kjøpe det for full pris; jeg vil ikke ta til Herren det som ditt er, og ofre brennoffere som jeg har fått for intet.
25 So David gave to Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place.
Så gav David Ornan for stedet seks hundre sekel gull efter vekt.
26 David built an altar to the LORD there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire on the altar of burnt offering, and it consumed the burnt offering.
Og David bygget der et alter for Herren og ofret brennoffere og takkoffere; og han ropte til Herren, og han svarte ham med ild fra himmelen på brennoffer-alteret.
27 The LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into its sheath.
Og Herren bød engelen at han skulde stikke sitt sverd i skjeden igjen.
28 At that time, when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
Da David så at Herren hadde bønnhørt ham på jebusitten Ornans treskeplass, så ofret han der på den tid.
29 For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
Herrens tabernakel, som Moses hadde latt gjøre i ørkenen, og brennoffer-alteret stod dengang på haugen i Gibeon;
30 But David couldn't go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
men David torde ikke gå ditt for å søke Gud; så forferdet var han for Herrens engels sverd.
