Matthew 22
1 Jesus answered and spoke again in parables to them, saying,
イエスは答えて，再びたとえで彼らに話してこう言った。
2 "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,
「天の王国は，自分の息子のために婚宴を催した一人の王のようだ。
3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come.
自分の召使いたちを遣わして，その婚宴に招いておいた者たちを呼ばせたが，彼らは来ようとしなかった。
4 Again he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "Look, I have made ready my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage feast."'
彼は再びほかの召使いたちを遣わして言った，『招いておいた者たちにこう告げなさい。「見よ，わたしは夕食を整えた。わたしの牛と肥えた家畜はほふられ，何もかも整った。婚宴に来なさい！」』
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise,
だが，彼らは意に介さず，ある者は自分の農園に，別の者は自分の商売に出かけて行った。
6 and the rest grabbed his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.
また，残りの者たちは王の召使いたちを捕まえ，ひどい扱いをし，殺してしまった。
7 The king was enraged, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
それを聞いて王は腹を立て，自分の軍隊を送り，それらの人殺したちを滅ぼし，彼らの町を焼き払った。
8 "Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren't worthy.
「それから彼は自分の召使いたちに言った，『婚礼の用意はできているのだが，招いておいた者たちはふさわしくなかった。
9 Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage feast.'
だから，大通りの十字路に行って，あなた方が見つける者をみな婚宴に招きなさい』。
10 And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all they found, both bad and good, and the wedding was filled with those reclining.
それらの召使いたちは大通りに出て行き，見つけた者をみな，悪人も善人も共に集めた。婚礼は客でいっぱいになった。
11 But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on wedding clothing,
ところが，王が客を見ようとして入って来ると，そこに婚礼の衣服を着けていない者を見つけた。
12 and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?' He was speechless.
そこで王は彼に言った，『友よ，どうして婚礼の衣服を着ないでここに入って来たのか』。彼は何も言えなかった。
13 Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.'
すると王は召使いたちに言った，『彼の手足を縛って連れて行き，外の闇に投げ出せ。そこには嘆きと歯ぎしりとがあるだろう』。
14 For many are called, but few chosen."
招かれるものは多いが，選ばれる者は少ないのだ」 。
15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.
その時，ファリサイ人たちがやって来て，どのようにして彼の言葉じりを捕らえてわなにかけようかと相談した。
16 They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach, for you are not partial to anyone.
彼らは自分たちの弟子たちをヘロデ党の者たちと一緒に彼のもとに遣わしてこう言わせた。「先生，わたしたちはあなたが正直な方で，だれに対しても真実をもって神の道を教えられることを知っています。あなたはだれをもえこひいきすることがないからです。
17 Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
それで，わたしたちに教えてください。カエサルに税金を払うことは許されているでしょうか，許されていないでしょうか」。
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test me, you hypocrites?
しかし彼は，彼らの邪悪さに気づいて，こう言った。「偽善者たち，なぜあなた方はわたしを試すのか。
19 Show me the tax money." They brought to him a denarius.
税の貨幣をわたしに見せなさい」 。 彼らは彼のもとに一デナリオスを持って来た。
20 He asked them, "Whose is this image and inscription?"
彼は彼らに言った，「これはだれの像と銘なのか」 。
21 They said to him, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
彼らは彼に言った，「カエサルのです」。 すると彼は彼らに答えた，「それなら，カエサルのものはカエサルに，神のものは神に返しなさい」 。
22 When they heard it, they were astonished, and left him, and went away.
これを聞いて彼らは驚嘆し，彼を残して去って行った。
23 On that day Sadducees came to him, the ones saying that there is no resurrection. And they asked him,
その日，サドカイ人たちが彼のもとにやって来た。（復活などはないと言う者たちである。）彼に尋ねて
24 saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies, having no children, his brother is to marry his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.'
言った，「先生，モーセは，『もしある人が子供を残さずに死んだ場合，彼の弟がその妻をめとり，自分の兄のために子孫を起こさなければならない』と言いました。
25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother.
さて，わたしたちのもとに七人の兄弟がいました。最初の者が妻をめとりましたが，死にました。そして子孫がいなかったので，その弟にその妻を残しました。
26 In like manner the second also, and the third, to the seventh.
二番目も，三番目も，ついには七番目まで同じようになりました。
27 After them all, the woman died.
みんなの最後にその女も死にました。
28 In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her."
それで，復活において，彼女は七人のうちだれの妻になるのですか。みんなが彼女を妻にしたのですから」。
29 But Jesus answered them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
しかしイエスは彼らに答えた，「あなた方は，聖書も神の力も知らずに，思い違いをしている。
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like the angels in heaven.
復活において，彼らはめとったり嫁いだりせず，天にいる神のみ使いたちのようになるからだ。
31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
だが，死んだ者たちの復活について，あなた方はモーセの書の『茂み』のくだりで，神があなた方に語られたことを読んだことがないのか。こう言われた。
32 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?' God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."
『わたしはアブラハムの神，イサクの神，ヤコブの神だ』。神は死んだ者たちの神ではなく，生きている者たちの神なのだ」 。
33 When the crowds heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.
群衆はこれを聞いて，彼の教えに驚いた。
34 But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.
しかしファリサイ人たちは，彼がサドカイ人たちを沈黙させたことを聞いて，共に集まった。
35 One of them, a Law scholar, asked him a question, testing him.
彼らのうちの一人の律法学者が，彼を試そうとして一つのことを尋ねた。
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?"
「先生，律法の中で最大のおきてはどれですか」。
37 He said to him, "'You are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
イエスは彼に言った，「『あなたは，心を尽くし，魂を尽くし，思いを尽くして，あなたの神なる主を愛さなければならない』。
38 This is the great and first commandment.
これが最大で第一のおきてだ。
39 A second likewise is this, 'You are to love your neighbor as yourself.'
第二もこれと同様であって，こうだ。『あなたは隣人を自分自身のように愛さなければならない』。
40 The whole Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments."
律法全体と預言者たちとは，この二つのおきてにかかっている」 。
41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,
さて，ファリサイ人たちが共に集まっているとき，イエスは彼らに一つのことを尋ねて
42 saying, "What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "Of David."
言った，「あなた方はキリストについてどう思うか。彼はだれの子か」 。 彼らは彼に言った，「ダビデの子だ」。
43 He said to them, "How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,
彼は彼らに言った，「どうしてダビデは霊によって彼を主と呼んでいるのか。こう言っている。
44 'The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet'?
『主はわたしの主に言われた，「わたしの右に座っていなさい，わたしがあなたの敵たちをあなたの足台とするまで」』。
45 "If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?"
「ダビデが彼を主と呼んでいるのなら，どうして彼はダビデの子なのか」 。
46 No one was able to answer him a word, neither did anyone dare ask him any more questions from that day forth.
だれも一言も彼に答えることはできなかった。そしてこの日以降，彼にこれ以上あえて何かを尋ねる者はいなかった。
