Joshua 2
1 And Joshua the son of Nun secretly sent two young men out of Shittim as spies, saying, "Go, view the land, and Jericho." And the two young men went and came to Jericho and entered into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and slept there.
茲にヌンの子ヨシユア、シツテムより潜かに二人の間者を發し之にいひけるは往てかの地およびヱリコを窺ひ探れ乃ち彼ら往て妓婦ラハブと名づくる者の家に入て其處に寝けるが
2 The king of Jericho was told, "Look, men of the children of Israel came in here to spy out the land."
或人ヱリコの王に告て觀よイスラエルの子孫の者この地を探らんとて今宵ここに入きたれりといふ
3 The king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, "Bring out the men who came to you tonight; for they have come to spy out all the land."
是に於てヱリコの王ラハブに言つかはしけるは汝にきたりて汝の家に入し人を曳いだせ彼らは此全國を探らんとて來れるなり
4 The woman took the two men and hid them. Then she said, "Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they came from.
婦人かのふたりの人を將て之を匿し而して言ふ實にその人々はわが許に來れり然れども我その何處よりか知ざりしが
5 It happened about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out. Where the men went, I do not know. Pursue them quickly; for you will overtake them."
黄昏どき門を閉るころに出されり我その人々の何處へ往しかを知ず急ぎその後を追へ然ば之に追及んと
6 But she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.
その實は婦すでにかれらを領て屋葢に升り屋葢の上に列べおきたる麻のなかに之をかくししなり
7 The men pursued them the way to the Jordan to the fords: and as soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.
かくてその人々彼らの後を追ひヨルダンの路をゆきて渡場に赴むけり、かれらの後を追ふ者出るや直に門を閉しぬ
8 Before they had lain down, she came up to them on the roof;
二人のもの未だ寝ずラハブ屋背に上りて彼らのもとに來り
9 and she said to the men, "I know that Jehovah has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.
これに言けるはヱホバこの地を汝らに賜へり我らは甚く汝らを懼る此地の民盡く汝らの前に消亡ん我この事を知る
10 For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
其は汝らがエジプトより出來し時ヱホバなんぢらの前にて紅海の水を乾たまひし事および汝らがヨルダンの彼旁にありしアモリ人の二箇の王シホンとオグとになししこと即ちことごとく之を滅ぼしたりし事を我ら聞たればなり
11 As soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Jehovah your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.
我ら之を聞や心怯けなんぢらの故によりて人の魂きえうせたり汝らの神ヱホバは上の天にも下の地にも神たるなり
12 Now therefore, please swear to me by Jehovah, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father's house, and give me a true token;
然ば請ふ我すでに汝らに恩を施したれば汝らも今ヱホバを指て我父の家に恩をほどこさんことを誓ひて我に眞實の記號を與へよ
13 and that you will save alive my father, my mother, my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death."
又わが父母兄弟姉妹および凡て彼らに屬る者をながらへしめ我らの生命を拯ひて死を免かれしめんことを誓へよ
14 The men said to her, "Our life for yours, even to death, if you do not talk about this business of ours; and it shall be, when Jehovah gives us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you."
二人のものこれに言けるは汝ら若しわれらの此事を洩すことなくば我らの生命汝らに代りて死ん又ヱホバわれらに此地を與へたまふ時には我らなんぢに恩を施し眞實を盡さん
15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window; for her house was on the side of the wall, and she lived on the wall.
是においてラハブ繩をもて彼らを窓より縋おろせり是は其家邑の石垣の上にありてかれ石垣の上に住しによる
16 She said to them, "Go to the mountain, lest the pursuers find you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward, you may go your way."
ラハブかれらに言けるは恐らくは追者なんぢに遇ん汝ら山に往て三日が間そこに隱れをり追者の還るを待て後去ゆくべし
17 The men said to her, "We will be guiltless of this your oath which you have made us to swear.
二人のものかれに言けるは汝が我らに誓しし此誓につきては我ら罪を獲じ
18 Look, when we come into the land, you shall bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which you did let us down by. You shall gather to yourself into the house your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father's household.
我らが此地に打いらん時は汝我らを縋おろしたりし窓に此一條の赤き紐を結つけ且つ汝の父母兄弟および汝の父の家の眷族を悉く汝の家に聚むべし
19 It shall be that whoever goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood will be on his head, and we will be guiltless. Whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand is on him.
凡て汝の家の門を出て街衢に來る者はその血自身の首に歸すべし我らは罪なし然どもし汝とともに家にをる者に手をくはふることをせばその血は我らの首に歸すべし
20 But if you talk about this business of ours, then we shall be guiltless of your oath which you have made us to swear."
將た汝もし我らのこの事を洩さば汝が我らに誓せたる誓に我らあづかることなし
21 She said, "According to your words, so be it." She sent them away, and they departed. She tied the scarlet line in the window.
ラハブいひけるはなんぢらの言のごとくすべしと斯てかれらを出し去しめて赤き紐を窓に結べり
22 They went, and came to the mountain, and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had returned. The pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but did not find them.
かれら往て山にいり追來るもののかへるを待て三日が間そこに居れりおひ來れるもの徧ねく彼らを途に尋ねしかども終に獲ざりき
23 Then the two men returned, descended from the mountain, passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun; and they told him all that had happened to them.
而してかの二箇の人は山を下り河を濟りて歸りヌンの子ヨシユアに詣りて其有し事等をつぶさに陳ぶ
24 They said to Joshua, "Truly Jehovah has delivered into our hands all the land. Moreover, all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us."
またヨシユアにいふ誠にヱホバこの國をことごとく我らの手に付したまへりこの國の民は皆我らの前に消うせんと
