< John 19 >
1 So Pilate then took Jesus, and flogged him.
Hĩndĩ ĩyo Pilato akĩoya Jesũ, akĩmũhũũrithia iboko.
2 The soldiers twisted thorns into a crown, and put it on his head, and dressed him in a purple garment.
3 And they kept coming up to him and saying, "Greetings, King of the Jews." and they struck him with their hands.
igathiiaga harĩ we o ihinda kwa ihinda, ikamũnyũrũragia ikiugaga atĩrĩ, “Ngeithi, mũthamaki wa Ayahudi!” Nacio ikamũgũthaga ũthiũ na hĩ.
4 Then Pilate went out again, and said to them, "Look, I am bringing him out to you, that you may know that I find no basis for a charge against him."
O rĩngĩ Pilato akiuma nja, akĩĩra Ayahudi atĩrĩ, “Ta onei ngũmũruta nja ndĩmũrehe kũrĩ inyuĩ, nĩguo mũmenye atĩ niĩ ndionete ũndũ o na ũrĩkũ angĩthitangĩrwo.”
5 Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment. And he said to them, "Look, here is the man."
6 When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him, they shouted, saying, "Crucify. Crucify." Pilate said to them, "Take him yourselves, and crucify him, for I find no basis for a charge against him."
Rĩrĩa athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa anene o na atongoria a Ayahudi maamuonire, makĩanĩrĩra makiuga atĩrĩ, “Mwambithie mũtĩ-igũrũ! Mwambithie mũtĩ-igũrũ!” No Pilato akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “Muoei mũmwambe mũtĩ igũrũ arĩ inyuĩ. Ha ũhoro wakwa, ndirona ũndũ o na ũrĩkũ angĩthitangĩrwo.”
7 The Jewish leaders answered him, "We have a law, and by that law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God."
Nao Ayahudi makiuga magwatĩirie atĩrĩ, “Ithuĩ nĩtũrĩ watho; na kũringana na watho ũcio no nginya akue, tondũ nĩetuĩte Mũrũ wa Ngai.”
8 When therefore Pilate heard this saying, he was more afraid.
Rĩrĩa Pilato aiguire ũguo, agĩĩtigĩra mũno makĩria,
9 He entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Jesus, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave him no answer.
agĩcooka thĩinĩ wa nyũmba ĩyo ya ũthamaki. Ningĩ akĩũria Jesũ atĩrĩ, “Wee-rĩ, uumĩte kũ?” Nowe Jesũ ndaigana kũmũcookeria.
10 Pilate therefore said to him, "Are you not speaking to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you, and have power to crucify you?"
11 Jesus answered, "You would have no power at all against me, unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered me to you has greater sin."
Nake Jesũ akĩmũcookeria atĩrĩ, “Wee ndũngĩrĩ na ũhoti igũrũ rĩakwa korwo ndũheetwo guo kuuma igũrũ. Nĩ ũndũ ũcio ũrĩa ũũneanire kũrĩwe nĩwe ũrĩ na mehia marĩa manene.”
12 At this, Pilate was seeking to release him, but the Jewish leaders shouted, saying, "If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend. Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar."
Kuuma hĩndĩ ĩyo, Pilato akĩgeria kuohora Jesũ, no Ayahudi magĩthiĩ na mbere kwanĩrĩra atĩrĩ, “Ũngĩrekereria mũndũ ũyũ, wee ndũrĩ mũrata wa Kaisari. Mũndũ o wothe wĩtuaga mũthamaki nĩamenete Kaisari.”
13 When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called "The Pavement," but in Hebrew, "Gabbatha."
Rĩrĩa Pilato aiguire ũguo-rĩ, akiumia Jesũ nja, na agĩikarĩra gĩtĩ kĩa mũtuanĩri ciira handũ hoĩkaine ta “Harĩa-haare-Mahiga” (na heetagwo na Kĩhibirania Gabatha).
14 Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, at about noon. He said to the Jewish leaders, "Look, here is your King."
Kwarĩ mũthenya wa Ihaarĩria rĩa Kiumia gĩa Gĩathĩ kĩa Bathaka; na kwarĩ ta thaa thita. Nake Pilato akĩĩra Ayahudi atĩrĩ, “Ũyũ mũthamaki wanyu.”
15 They shouted, "Away with him. Away with him. Crucify him." Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."
No-o makĩanĩrĩra, makiuga atĩrĩ, “Mweherie! Mweherie! Mwambithie mũtĩ-igũrũ!” Nake Pilato akĩmooria atĩrĩ, “Nyambithie Mũthamaki wanyu?” Nao athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa anene magĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Ithuĩ tũtirĩ mũthamaki ũngĩ tiga Kaisari.”
16 So then he delivered him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus.
Mũthia-inĩ Pilato akĩmũneana kũrĩ o nĩguo akambwo mũtĩ-igũrũ. Nacio thigari ikĩnyiita Jesũ.
17 And he went out, carrying the cross himself, to the place called "The Place of a Skull," which is called in Hebrew, "Golgotha,"
Na ekuuĩire mũtharaba wake agĩthiĩ nginya harĩa heetagwo “Ha Ihĩndĩ rĩa Mũtwe” (na no ho hetagwo na Kĩhibirania, Gologotha.)
18 where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Jesus in the middle.
Hau nĩho maamwambire, na hamwe nake makĩamba andũ angĩ eerĩ, ũmwe mwena ũmwe na ũcio ũngĩ mwena ũcio ũngĩ; nake Jesũ arĩ gatagatĩ.
19 Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. There was written, "JESUS THE NAZOREAN, THE KING OF THE JEWS."
Nake Pilato akĩandĩkithia kĩbaũ na gĩkĩhũũrĩrwo mũtharaba-inĩ. Nakĩo kĩandĩkĩtwo atĩrĩ, JESŨ WA NAZARETHI, MŨTHAMAKI WA AYAHUDI.
20 Therefore many Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek.
Nao Ayahudi aingĩ magĩthoma maandĩko macio, nĩgũkorwo handũ harĩa Jesũ aambĩirwo haarĩ hakuhĩ na itũũra rĩu inene, nakĩo kĩbaũ kĩu kĩandĩkĩtwo na Kĩhibirania, na Kĩlatini, na Kĩyunani.
21 The chief priests of the Jewish people therefore said to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but, 'he said, I am King of the Jews.'"
Nao athĩnjĩri-Ngai arĩa anene a Ayahudi makĩĩra Pilato atĩrĩ, “Tiga kwandĩka ‘Mũthamaki wa Ayahudi’, no andĩka atĩ mũndũ ũyũ nĩ kuuga oigire atĩ nĩwe mũthamaki wa Ayahudi.”
22 Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."
Nake Pilato akĩmacookeria atĩrĩ, “Ũguo ndandĩka nĩndandĩka.”
23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his clothes and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
Rĩrĩa thigari ciarĩkirie kwamba Jesũ, ikĩoya nguo ciake, igĩcigayania maita mana, o mũndũ yake, no kanjũ yatigarire. Nguo ĩyo ndĩarĩ na rũtumo, yatumĩtwo kuuma igũrũ nginya thĩ ĩrĩ o taama ũmwe.
24 Then they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to decide whose it will be," that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, "They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast a lot." Therefore the soldiers did these things.
Nacio ikĩĩrana atĩrĩ, “Nĩtũtigei kũmĩtarũra; rekei tũmĩcuukĩre mĩtĩ nĩguo tũmenye ũrĩa ũgũthiĩ nayo.” Gwekĩkire ũguo nĩguo Maandĩko mahinge marĩa moigĩte atĩrĩ, “Maagayanire nguo ciakwa, na magĩcuukĩra kanjũ yakwa mĩtĩ.” Ũguo nĩguo thigari ciekire.
25 But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 Therefore when Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, "Woman, look, your son."
Rĩrĩa Jesũ onire nyina na mũrutwo ũrĩa endete marũngiĩ hakuhĩ nake, akĩĩra nyina atĩrĩ, “Mũtumia ũyũ, ũcio mũrũguo,”
27 Then he said to the disciple, "Look, your mother." From that hour, the disciple took her to his own home.
agĩcooka akĩĩra mũrutwo ũcio atĩrĩ, “Ũcio maitũguo.” Kuuma hĩndĩ ĩyo mũrutwo ũcio akĩoya nyina wa Jesũ, agĩthiĩ gũtũũra mũciĩ kwa mũrutwo ũcio.
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty."
Thuutha ũcio, Jesũ amenya atĩ maũndũ mothe nĩmathira, na nĩguo Maandĩko mahinge, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Nĩnyootiĩ.”
29 A vessel full of sour wine was set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and held it at his mouth.
Hau nĩ haarĩ na cuba yarĩ na thiki, nĩ ũndũ ũcio thigari igĩtobokia thibũnji ho, igĩcooka igĩthecerera thibũnji ĩyo rũthanju-inĩ rwa mũthobi, ikĩmĩtwarĩrĩria kanua-inĩ ka Jesũ.
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished." He bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.
Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa Jesũ aamĩkundire, akiuga atĩrĩ, “Ũhoro nĩwathira.” Na oiga ũguo, akĩinamia mũtwe, agĩtuĩkana.
31 Therefore the Jewish leaders, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32 Therefore the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was crucified with him;
33 but when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
No rĩrĩa maakinyire harĩ Jesũ na makĩona atĩ nĩarĩkĩtie gũkua, makĩaga kuuna magũrũ make.
34 However one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
Handũ ha ũguo-rĩ, mũthigari ũmwe agĩtheeca Jesũ mbaru na itimũ, na o rĩmwe hakiura thakame na maaĩ.
35 He who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, that you may believe.
36 For these things happened, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "A bone of him will not be broken."
Namo maũndũ macio meekĩkire nĩgeetha Maandĩko mahinge marĩa moigĩte atĩrĩ, “Gũtirĩ ihĩndĩ o na rĩmwe rĩake rĩkoinwo.”
37 Again another Scripture says, "They will look on him whom they pierced."
O na ningĩ no harĩ Maandĩko mangĩ moigĩte atĩrĩ, “Makeerorera mũndũ ũrĩa maathecire.”
38 After these things, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jewish leaders, asked of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission. He came therefore and took away his body.
39 Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.
40 So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, according to Jewish burial practice.
41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden. In the garden was a new tomb in which no one had ever yet been placed.
42 Then because of the Jewish Preparation Day (for the tomb was nearby) they put Jesus there.
Tondũ kwarĩ mũthenya wa Ihaarĩria wa Ayahudi nĩguo marokere Thabatũ, na ningĩ nĩ ũndũ mbĩrĩra ĩyo yarĩ o hakuhĩ-rĩ, makĩiga Jesũ ho.
