James 3
1 Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.
என் சகோதரரே, உங்களில் பலர் போதகர்கள் ஆவதற்கு விரும்பாதீர்கள். ஏனெனில் போதிக்கிற நாம் அதிக தீர்ப்பிற்கு உட்படுவோம் என்று நீங்கள் அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்களே.
2 For in many things we all stumble. If anyone does not stumble in word, this one is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.
நாம் எல்லோரும் பலவிதங்களில் தவறு செய்கிறோம். தன் பேச்சில் ஒருபோதும் தவறாதவனாக யாராவது இருந்தால், அவனே முழுநிறைவு பெற்ற மனிதன். இப்படிப்பட்டவன், தனது முழு உடலையும் அடக்கி ஆளும் ஆற்றல் உடையவன்.
3 Now if we put bits into the horses' mouths so that they may obey us, we guide their whole body.
குதிரைகள் நமக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியும்படி, அவைகளுடைய வாய்களில் கடிவாளங்களைப் போடும்போது, அவைகளின் முழு உடலையும் நாம் கட்டுப்படுத்துகிறோம்.
4 And look at the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.
அல்லது கப்பல்களை ஒரு உதாரணமாக எடுத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள். அவை மிகப்பெரியவைகளாய் இருந்தும், பலத்த காற்றினாலேயே அடித்துச் செல்லப்பட்டாலும், கப்பலின் மாலுமி தான் விரும்புகின்ற திசையை நோக்கி, ஒரு சிறு சுக்கானாலே அவற்றைத் திருப்புகிறான்.
5 So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest.
அதேபோலவே, நாவும் உடலின் ஒரு சிறு அங்கமாயிருக்கிறது; ஆனால் அது பெரும் அளவில் பெருமை பேசுகிறது. ஒரு சிறு நெருப்புப் பொறி எவ்வளவு பெரிய காட்டையும் எரித்துவிடுகிறது என்பதை எண்ணிப்பாருங்கள்.
6 And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)
நாவும் நெருப்பாக இருக்கிறது. நமது உடலின் அங்கங்களுக்குள்ளே, நாவு ஒரு தீமை நிறைந்த உலகம் என்றே சொல்லலாம். அது ஒருவனை முழுவதுமாகவே சீர்கெடுத்து, அவனுடைய வாழ்க்கை முழுவதையும் எரியும் நெருப்பாக்கி விடுகிறது. அதுவும் நரகத்தின் நெருப்பினால் மூட்டப்படுகிறது. (Geenna g1067)
7 For all kinds of animals, and birds, of reptiles and sea creatures, are being tamed and have been tamed by humankind.
எல்லா விதமான மிருகங்களும், பறவைகளும், ஊரும் பிராணிகளும், கடலில் வாழும் உயிரினங்களும் மனிதனால் அடக்கிக் கட்டுப்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன. அப்படிக் கட்டுப்படுத்தப்பட்டும் இருக்கின்றன.
8 But nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
ஆனால் நாவையோ ஒருவனாலும் அடக்கிக் கட்டுப்படுத்த முடியாது. அது கட்டுக்கடங்காத கொடியது. மரணத்தை விளைவிக்கும் விஷம் நிறைந்ததாயிருக்கிறது.
9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who are made in the image of God.
நாம் நாவினாலே நமது கர்த்தரையும், பிதாவையும் துதிக்கிறோம். அதே நாவினாலேயே இறைவனுடைய சாயலாக படைக்கப்பட்ட மனிதர்களைச் சபிக்கிறோம்.
10 Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
ஒரே வாயிலிருந்து துதியும், சாபமும் வருகிறது. எனக்கு பிரியமானவர்களே, இவ்விதமாய் இருக்கக்கூடாதே.
11 Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?
ஒரே ஊற்றிலிருந்து நல்ல தண்ணீரும் உப்புத் தண்ணீரும் சுரக்க முடியுமா?
12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Nor is salt water able to produce sweet.
எனக்கு பிரியமானவர்களே, அத்திமரம் ஒலிவப்பழங்களையும், திராட்சைக்கொடி அத்திப்பழங்களையும் விளைவிக்குமா? அதேபோல், உப்புத் தண்ணீர் ஊற்றிலிருந்து நல்ல தண்ணீர் வருவதுமில்லை.
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.
உங்களுக்குள்ளே ஞானம் உள்ளவன் யார்? அறிவுள்ளவன் யார்? அவன் தன்னுடைய நல்ல வாழ்க்கையினாலே அதைக் காண்பிக்கட்டும். ஞானத்திலிருந்து வரும் மனத்தாழ்மையினால் செயல்களைச் செய்து காண்பிக்கட்டும்;
14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and do not lie against the truth.
ஆனால், உங்களுடைய இருதயங்களிலே கசப்பான பொறாமையையும், சுயநல ஆசையையும் இருக்குமேயானால், அதைக்குறித்து பெருமைப்பட வேண்டாம், சத்தியத்திற்கு எதிராக பொய் பேசவேண்டாம்.
15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.
அப்படிப்பட்ட ஞானம் பரலோகத்திலிருந்து வரும் ஒன்றல்ல; இது உலக ஞானம். இது ஆவிக்குரிய தன்மையற்றது. இது பிசாசினிடத்திலிருந்து வருகிறது.
16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.
ஏனெனில் எங்கே பொறாமையும் சுயநல ஆசையும் இருக்கின்றதோ, அங்கே ஒழுங்கீனமும் எல்லாவிதத் தீயசெயல்களும் இருக்கின்றன.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy.
ஆனால் பரலோகத்திலிருந்து வருகிற ஞானமோ, முதலாவது தூய்மை உடையதாய் இருக்கிறது; அது சமாதானத்தை விரும்புகிறதும், தயவுடையதும், பணிவுடையதும், இரக்கம் நிறைந்ததும், நல்ல கனியினால் நிறைந்ததுமாய் இருக்கிறது; அது பாரபட்சமும் போலித்தன்மையற்றதுமாய் இருக்கிறது.
18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
சமாதானத்தை உண்டுபண்ணுகிறவர்கள் சமாதானத்தின் விதையை விதைத்து, நீதியை அறுவடை செய்கிறார்கள்.
