2 Samuel 17

1 Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Let me now choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David tonight.

Entonces Ahitofel dijo a Absalón: Déjame sacar doce mil hombres y esta misma noche iré tras David.

2 And I will catch up with him while he is weary and discouraged, and will thow him into a panic, and all the people who are with him will flee. And I will strike the king alone.

Y subiré con él cuando esté cansado y débil, y lo llenaré de temor. Y todas las personas que están con él huirán; y haré un ataque al rey solamente.

3 Then all the people will come back to you, as a bride returns to her husband. You seek the life of only one man; then all the people will be in peace."

Y haré que todas las personas regresen a ti. Es la vida de un solo hombre a quien quieres; así todo el pueblo estará en paz.

4 And the advice seemed good to Absalom and all the elders of Israel.

Y el dicho agradó a Absalón y a los hombres responsables de Israel.

5 Then Absalom said, "Now call Hushai the Archite, and let's hear what he says."

Entonces Absalón dijo: Envía ahora a Husai el Arquita, y escuchemos lo que tiene que decir.

6 When Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom said to him, "Ahithophel has spoken thus. Should we follow his advice? And if not, speak up."

Y cuando llegó Husai, Absalón le dijo: Esto es lo que dijo Ahitofel: ¿debemos hacer lo que él dice? Si no, ¿cuál es tu sugerencia?

7 So Hushai said to Absalom, "The counsel that Ahithophel has given this time is not good."

Y Husai dijo a Absalón: La idea de Ahitofel no es buena en este momento.

8 Moreover, Hushai said, "You know your father and his men, that they are warriors, and that they are as fierce as a bear robbed of her cubs in the wild, or a sow snared in the wild. Your father is expert in war, and will not camp with the people.

Hushai dijo además: Tú tienes conocimiento de tu padre y sus hombres, que son hombres de guerra y que sus sentimientos son amargos, como los de un oso en el campo cuyos cachorros le han sido arrebatados: y tu padre es un hombre de guerra, y no tomará su noche de descanso con la gente;

9 Look, he is now hidden in some pit, or in some other place. And it will happen when some of them have fallen first, that whoever hears it will say, 'There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom.'

Pero ciertamente se habrá escondido en una cueva o lugar secreto; y si algunos de los nuestros, en el primer ataque, son vencidos, cualquier audiencia dirá: hay destrucción entre las personas que están del lado de Absalón.

10 Then even the one who is brave, whose heart is like the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knows that your father is a warrior, and those who are with him are brave men.

Entonces, incluso el más fuerte, cuyo corazón es como el corazón de un león, se desanimará; porque todo Israel es consciente de que tu padre es un hombre de guerra, y los que están con él son fuertes y sin miedo.

11 But, I strongly advise as follows: Let all Israel be gathered to you from Dan to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea in number, and that you personally go into battle.

Pero mi sugerencia es que todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, se reúna con ustedes, un gran ejército como las arenas del mar en número; y que tú mismo salgas entre ellos.

12 So we will come upon him in some place where he can be found, and we will fall on him as the dew falls on the ground, and of him and all the men with him not one will be left.

Entonces lo veremos en algún lugar, dondequiera que esté, cayendo sobre él al igual que el rocío sobre la tierra. Y de él y de todos los hombres que están con él, ninguno se saldrá con la vida.

13 Moreover, if he withdraws into a city, then all Israel will take up ropes to that city, and we will drag it into the riverbed, until there isn't one pebble to be found there."

Y si él ha entrado en alguna ciudad, entonces todo Israel debe llevar cuerdas fuertes a esa ciudad, y los arrastraremos hacia el valle, hasta que no se vea una piedra pequeña allí.

14 Then Absalom and all Israel said, "The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel." For Jehovah had commanded that Ahithophel's counsel should be defeated, so that that Jehovah could bring Absalom to ruin.

Entonces Absalón y todos los hombres de Israel dijeron: La sugerencia de Husai es mejor que la de Ahitofel. Porque el propósito del Señor era hacer que los sabios designios de Ahitofel no tuvieran efecto, para que el Señor enviará el mal a Absalón.

15 Then Hushai said to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, "Here is the council Ahithophel gave Absalom and the elders of Israel, and here is what I counseled.

Entonces Husai dijo a Sadoc y Abiatar, los sacerdotes: Esta es la sugerencia hecha por Ahitofel a Absalón y a los hombres responsables de Israel, y esto es lo que les dije.

16 Now therefore send quickly and tell David, saying, 'Do not stay the night at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over. Otherwise the king and all the people who are with him will be swallowed up.'"

Ahora envíe las noticias rápidamente a David y diga: No tome su descanso nocturno por el camino a través de las tierras baldías, sino asegúrese de pasar; o el rey y todas las personas con él serán destruidos.

17 Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying at En Rogel, and a female servant was to go and tell them, and they would go and inform king David. For they were not to be seen going into the city.

Ahora Jonatán y Ahimaas estaban esperando junto a En-rogel; y una sirvienta fue de vez en cuando y les dio noticias y fueron con las noticias al rey David, ya que no era prudente que se dejarán ver en la ciudad.

18 But a young man saw them and told Absalom. So they both departed quickly and reached the house of a man in Bahurim who had a well in his courtyard, and they went down into it.

Pero un niño los vio y se lo comunicó a Absalom; de modo que los dos se fueron rápidamente y llegaron a la casa de un hombre en Bahurim que tenía un pozo de agua en su jardín,

19 And the woman took a covering and spread it over the top of the well and scattered some grain on it, so that nothing could be noticed.

Y una mujer cubrió el agujero con una tapa, y puso encima un grano triturado, y nadie lo supo.

20 Then Absalom's servants came to the woman at the house, and they asked, "Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?" And the woman said to them, "They have crossed the brook of water." And when they had searched and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.

Y los siervos de Absalón se acercaron a la mujer de la casa y dijeron: ¿Dónde están Ahimaas y Jonatán? Y la mujer les dijo: Han ido de aquí al arroyo. Y después de buscarlos y no ver nada de ellos, regresaron a Jerusalén.

21 It came about after they had left that they climbed out of the well, and left and told king David. And they said to him, "Get up and cross quickly over the water, for Ahithophel has given such and such counsel against you."

Cuando se fueron los criados, salieron del pozo y fueron a dar al rey David la noticia; y dijeron: Levántate y ve rápidamente sobre el río Jordán, porque tal y cual es el diseño de Ahitofel contra ti.

22 Then David and all the people who were with him got up and they crossed the Jordan. By dawn there was no one left who had not crossed the Jordan.

Entonces David y todas las personas que estaban con él subieron por el Jordán al amanecer, todos habían cruzado el Jordán.

23 Now when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey and went up to his home in his city. Then he set his house in order and hanged himself, and he died and was buried in the tomb of his father.

Cuando Ahitofel vio que su sugerencia no se había cumplido, alistó su asno y regresó a su casa, a la ciudad de donde venía, y habiendo puesto su casa en orden, fue y se ahorcó; así que llegó a su fin y fue enterrado en el sepulcro de su padre.

24 Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed the Jordan, he and all Israel with him.

Y vino David a Mahanaim. Y Absalón, con todos los hombres de Israel, pasó por el Jordán.

25 And Absalom had put Amasa over the army in place of of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Jether the Ishmaelite, who had married Abigail the daughter of Jesse, sister to Zeruiah, Joab's mother.

Y Absalón puso a Amasa a la cabeza del ejército en lugar de Joab. Ahora Amasa era hijo de un hombre llamado Itra, el ismaelita, que había sido amante de Abigail, hija de Nahas, hermana de Sarvia, la madre de Joab.

26 So Israel and Absalom camped in the land of Gilead.

E Israel y Absalón levantaron sus campamentos en la tierra de Galaad.

27 Now it happened when David came to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the people of Ammon, Makir the son of Ammiel of Lo Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

Cuando David había venido a Mahanaim, salieron a recibirlo Sobi, el hijo de Nahas de Rabá, el Amon, y Maquir, el hijo de Amiel de Lodebar, y Barzilai de Galaad de Rogelim,

28 brought couches for sleeping, and covers, and basins, and pottery utensils, and wheat, and barley, and meal, and parched grain, and beans, and lentils,

Con camas y lavabos y ollas, y grano y harina, y todo tipo de alimentos secos,

29 and honey, and curd of the flock, and cheese of the herd. And they presented them to David and to the people who were with him to eat. For they said, "The people are hungry and tired and thirsty in the wilderness."

Y miel y manteca y ovejas y quesos de leche, para David y su pueblo; porque decían: Este pueblo viene del desierto, que necesita comida, bebida y descanso.
