Psalms 14

1 [For the Chief Musician. By David.] The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt. They do abominable works. There is none who does good.

Dem Sangmeister. Von David. / Die Toren denken bei sich: "Es ist kein Gott." / Verderbt, abscheulich handeln sie; / Da ist keiner, der Gutes tut.

2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the descendants of Adam, to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God.

Jahwe schaut vom Himmel herab auf die Menschenkinder, / Daß er sehe, ob jemand Einsicht habe / Und frage nach Gott.

3 They have all turned away. They have together become corrupt. There is no one who does good, no, not one.

Aber sie alle sind abgefallen, alle entartet; / Da ist keiner, der Gutes tut, / Auch nicht ein einziger.

4 Have all evildoers no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread? They do not call on the LORD.

"Sind denn so unvernünftig alle Übeltäter, / Die mein Volk verzehren, wie man Brot verzehrt, / Die nicht zu Jahwe beten?"

5 There they are utterly terrified, for God is in the generation of the righteous.

Dann beben sie schaudernd, / Denn Gott weilt bei dem gerechten Volk.

6 You would frustrate the plans of the lowly, but the LORD is his refuge.

Mögt ihr auch vereiteln der Dulder Wunsch — / Jahwe bleibt doch ihre Zuflucht.

7 Oh that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion. When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, may Jacob rejoice, may Israel be glad.

Ach, käme aus Zion für Israel Heil! / Wendet Jahwe das Los seines Volks, / So wird Jakob sich freun und Israel jauchzen.
