< Psalms 123 >
1 [A Song of Ascents.] To you I do lift up my eyes, you who sit in the heavens.
A song for pilgrims going up to Jerusalem. I look up to you, the one who rules from heaven.
2 Look, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes look to the LORD, our God, until he has mercy on us.
Just as servants look to their master, or a maid looks to her mistress, so we keep our eyes on you, Lord our God, waiting for you to be merciful to us.
3 Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt.
Please have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy. We've had enough of people's contempt.
4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.
We've had more than enough of the scorn of the proud, and the contempt of the arrogant.
