< Matthew 17 >
1 After six days, Yeshua took with him Kipha, Yaquv, and Yukhanan his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.
anantaraṁ ṣaḍdinebhyaḥ paraṁ yīśuḥ pitaraṁ yākūbaṁ tatsahajaṁ yohanañca gṛhlan uccādre rviviktasthānam āgatya teṣāṁ samakṣaṁ rūpamanyat dadhāra|
2 He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light.
tena tadāsyaṁ tejasvi, tadābharaṇam ālokavat pāṇḍaramabhavat|
3 And look, Mushe and Eliya appeared to them talking with him.
anyacca tena sākaṁ saṁlapantau mūsā eliyaśca tebhyo darśanaṁ dadatuḥ|
4 Kipha answered, and said to Yeshua, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let us make three tents here: one for you, one for Mushe, and one for Eliya."
tadānīṁ pitaro yīśuṁ jagāda, he prabho sthitiratrāsmākaṁ śubhā, yadi bhavatānumanyate, tarhi bhavadarthamekaṁ mūsārthamekam eliyārthañcaikam iti trīṇi dūṣyāṇi nirmmama|
5 While he was still speaking, look, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And look, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him."
etatkathanakāla eka ujjavalaḥ payodasteṣāmupari chāyāṁ kṛtavān, vāridād eṣā nabhasīyā vāg babhūva, mamāyaṁ priyaḥ putraḥ, asmin mama mahāsantoṣa etasya vākyaṁ yūyaṁ niśāmayata|
6 When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.
kintu vācametāṁ śṛṇvantaeva śiṣyā mṛśaṁ śaṅkamānā nyubjā nyapatan|
7 Yeshua came and touched them and said, "Get up, and do not be afraid."
tadā yīśurāgatya teṣāṁ gātrāṇi spṛśan uvāca, uttiṣṭhata, mā bhaiṣṭa|
8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one except Yeshua alone.
tadānīṁ netrāṇyunmīlya yīśuṁ vinā kamapi na dadṛśuḥ|
9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Yeshua commanded them, saying, "Do not tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead."
tataḥ param adreravarohaṇakāle yīśustān ityādideśa, manujasutasya mṛtānāṁ madhyādutthānaṁ yāvanna jāyate, tāvat yuṣmābhiretaddarśanaṁ kasmaicidapi na kathayitavyaṁ|
10 The disciples asked him, saying, "Then why do the scribes say that Eliya must come first?"
tadā śiṣyāstaṁ papracchuḥ, prathamam eliya āyāsyatīti kuta upādhyāyairucyate?
11 And he answered and said, "Eliya indeed comes, and will restore all things,
tato yīśuḥ pratyavādīt, eliyaḥ prāgetya sarvvāṇi sādhayiṣyatīti satyaṁ,
12 but I tell you that Eliya has come already, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them."
kintvahaṁ yuṣmān vacmi, eliya etya gataḥ, te tamaparicitya tasmin yathecchaṁ vyavajahuḥ; manujasutenāpi teṣāmantike tādṛg duḥkhaṁ bhoktavyaṁ|
13 Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of Yukhanan the Baptist.
tadānīṁ sa majjayitāraṁ yohanamadhi kathāmetāṁ vyāhṛtavān, itthaṁ tacchiṣyā bubudhire|
14 When they came to the crowd, a man came to him, kneeling down to him, saying,
paścāt teṣu jananivahasyāntikamāgateṣu kaścit manujastadantikametya jānūnī pātayitvā kathitavān,
15 "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic, and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.
he prabho, matputraṁ prati kṛpāṁ vidadhātu, sopasmārāmayena bhṛśaṁ vyathitaḥ san punaḥ puna rvahnau muhu rjalamadhye patati|
16 So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him."
tasmād bhavataḥ śiṣyāṇāṁ samīpe tamānayaṁ kintu te taṁ svāsthaṁ karttuṁ na śaktāḥ|
17 Yeshua answered, "Faithless and perverse generation. How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me."
tadā yīśuḥ kathitavān re aviśvāsinaḥ, re vipathagāminaḥ, punaḥ katikālān ahaṁ yuṣmākaṁ sannidhau sthāsyāmi? katikālān vā yuṣmān sahiṣye? tamatra mamāntikamānayata|
18 Yeshua rebuked him, the demon went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.
paścād yīśunā tarjataeva sa bhūtastaṁ vihāya gatavān, taddaṇḍaeva sa bālako nirāmayo'bhūt|
19 Then the disciples came to Yeshua privately, and said, "Why weren't we able to cast it out?"
tataḥ śiṣyā guptaṁ yīśumupāgatya babhāṣire, kuto vayaṁ taṁ bhūtaṁ tyājayituṁ na śaktāḥ?
20 So he said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."
yīśunā te proktāḥ, yuṣmākamapratyayāt;

22 While they were gathering together in Galila, Yeshua said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,
aparaṁ teṣāṁ gālīlpradeśe bhramaṇakāle yīśunā te gaditāḥ, manujasuto janānāṁ kareṣu samarpayiṣyate tai rhaniṣyate ca,
23 and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up." They were exceedingly sorry.
kintu tṛtīye'hina ma utthāpiṣyate, tena te bhṛśaṁ duḥkhitā babhūvaḥ|
24 When they had come to Kepharnakhum, those who collected the zuzeen coins came to Kipha, and said, "Does not your teacher pay the zuzeen?"
tadanantaraṁ teṣu kapharnāhūmnagaramāgateṣu karasaṁgrāhiṇaḥ pitarāntikamāgatya papracchuḥ, yuṣmākaṁ guruḥ kiṁ mandirārthaṁ karaṁ na dadāti? tataḥ pitaraḥ kathitavān dadāti|
25 He said, "Yes." When he came into the house, Yeshua anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Shimon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?"
tatastasmin gṛhamadhyamāgate tasya kathākathanāt pūrvvameva yīśuruvāca, he śimon, medinyā rājānaḥ svasvāpatyebhyaḥ kiṁ videśibhyaḥ kebhyaḥ karaṁ gṛhlanti? atra tvaṁ kiṁ budhyase? tataḥ pitara uktavān, videśibhyaḥ|
26 And when he said, "From strangers." Yeshua said to him, "Therefore the children are exempt.
tadā yīśuruktavān, tarhi santānā muktāḥ santi|
27 But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the lake, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for me and you."
