John 9

1 And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.

ויהי בעברו וירא איש והוא עור מיום הולדו׃

2 And his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"

וישאלו אתו תלמידיו לאמר רבי מי הוא אשר חטא הזה אם ילדיו כי נולד עור׃

3 Yeshua answered, "Neither did this man sin, nor his parents; but, that the works of God might be revealed in him.

ויען ישוע לא זה חטא ולא יולדיו אך למען יגלו בו מעללי אל׃

4 We must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.

עלי לעשות מעשי שלחי בעוד יום יבוא הלילה אשר בו לא יוכל איש לפעל׃

5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

בהיותי בעולם אור העולם אני׃

6 When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man's eyes with the mud,

ויהי כדברו זאת וירק על הארץ ויעש טיט מן הרוק וימרח את הטיט על עיני העור׃

7 and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Shilukha" (which means "Sent"). So he went away, washed, and came back seeing.

ויאמר אליו לך ורחץ בברכת השלח פרושו שלוח וילך וירחץ ויבא ועיניו ראות׃

8 The neighbors therefore, and those who saw that he was a beggar before, said, "Is this not the one who used to sit and beg?"

ויאמרו שכניו ואשר ראו אתו לפנים כי עור הוא הלא זה הוא הישב ומשאל׃

9 Some said, "It is he." Others said, "He looks like him." He said, "I am he."

אלה אמרו כי הוא זה ואלה אמרו אך דומה לו והוא אמר אני הוא׃

10 They therefore were asking him, "How were your eyes opened?"

ויאמרו אליו במה אפו נפקחו עיניך׃

11 He answered, "A man called Yeshua made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to Shilukha, and wash.' So I went away and washed, and I received sight."

ויען ויאמר איש אשר נקרא שמו ישוע עשה טיט וימרח על עיני ויאמר אלי לך ורחץ בברכת השלח ואלך וארחץ ותארנה עיני׃

12 Then they asked him, "Where is he?" He said, "I do not know."

ויאמרו אליו איו ויאמר לא ידעתי׃

13 They brought him who had been blind to the Pharisees.

ויביאו את האיש אשר היה עור לפנים אל הפרושים׃

14 Now it was a Sabbath on the day when Yeshua made the mud and opened his eyes.

והיום אשר עשה בו ישוע את הטיט ויפקח את עיניו שבת היה׃

15 Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see."

ויוסיפו לשאל אתו גם הפרושים איך נפקחו עיניו ויאמר אליהם טיט שם על עיני וארחץ והנני ראה׃

16 Some therefore of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, because he does not keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" There was division among them.

ויאמרו מקצת הפרושים זה האיש לא מאלהים הוא כי לא ישמר את השבת ואחרים אמרו איכה יוכל איש חטא לעשות אתות כאלה ויהי ריב ביניהם׃

17 Therefore they asked the blind man again, "What do you say about him, because he opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."

ויוסיפו ויאמרו אל העור מה תאמר אתה עליו אשר פקח עיניך ויאמר נביא הוא׃

18 The Jewish leaders therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,

ולא האמינו היהודים עליו כי עור היה וארו עיניו עד אשר קראו אל יולדי הנרפא׃

19 and asked them, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?"

וישאלו אתם לאמר הזה הוא בנכם אשר אמרתם כי נולד עור ואיכה הוא ראה עתה׃

20 His parents answered them, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

ויענו אתם יולדיו ויאמרו ידענו כי זה הוא בננו וכי נולד עור׃

21 but how he now sees, we do not know; or who opened his eyes, we do not know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself."

אבל איך הוא ראה עתה או מי פקח את עיניו אנחנו לא ידענו הלא בן דעת הוא שאלו את פיהו והוא יגיד מה היה לו׃

22 His parents said these things because they feared the Jewish leaders; for the Jewish leaders had already agreed that if anyone would confess him as the Meshikha, he would be put out of the synagogue.

כזאת דברו יולדיו מיראתם את היהודים כי היהודים כבר נועצו לנדות את כל אשר יודה כי הוא המשיח׃

23 Therefore his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him."

על כן אמרו יולדיו בן דעת הוא שאלו את פיהו׃

24 So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner."

ויקראו שנית לאיש אשר היה עור ויאמרו אליו תן כבוד לאלהים אנחנו ידענו כי האיש הזה חטא הוא׃

25 He therefore answered, "I do not know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see."

ויען ויאמר אם האיש חטא הוא אינני ידע אחת ידעתי כי עור הייתי ועתה הנני ראה׃

26 They said to him, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"

ויאמרו אליו עוד מה עשה לך איכה פקח עיניך׃

27 He answered them, "I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You do not also want to become his disciples, do you?"

ויען אתם כבר אמרתי לכם הלא שמעתם ומה לכם לשמע שנית התאבו גם אתם להיות תלמידיו׃

28 They insulted him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Mushe.

ויחרפו אתו ויאמרו אתה תלמידו ואנחנו תלמידיו של משה׃

29 We know that God has spoken to Mushe. But as for this man, we do not know where he comes from."

אנחנו יודעים כי אל משה דבר האלהים ואת זה לא ידענו מאין הוא׃

30 The man answered them, "How amazing. You do not know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.

ויען האיש ויאמר אליהם זאת היא הפלא ופלא כי לא ידעתם מאין הוא והוא פקח את עיני׃

31 We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshipper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.

והנה ידענו כי את החטאים לא ישמע אל כי אם את ירא האלהים ועשה רצונו אתו ישמע׃

32 Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind. (aiōn g165)

מעולם לא נשמע כי פקח איש עיני עור מרחם׃ (aiōn g165)

33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."

לולא היה זה מאת אלהים לא היה יכל לעשות מאומה׃

34 They answered him, "You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?" They threw him out.

ויענו ויאמרו אליו הן בחטאים נולדת כלך ואתה תלמדנו ויהדפהו החוצה׃

35 Yeshua heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"

וישמע ישוע כי הדפהו החוצה ויפגשהו ויאמר אליו התאמין בבן האדם׃

36 He answered, "Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?"

ויען ויאמר מי הוא זה אדני למען אאמין בו׃

37 Yeshua said to him, "You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you."

ויאמר אליו ישוע הן ראית אתו והמדבר אליך הנה זה הוא׃

38 He said, "Lord, I believe." and he worshiped him.

ויאמר אני מאמין אדני וישתחו לו׃

39 Yeshua said, "I came into this world for judgment, that those who do not see may see; and that those who see may become blind."

ויאמר ישוע אני לדין באתי לעולם הזה למען יראו העורים והראים יכו בעורון׃

40 Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, "Are we also blind?"

ואשר היו עמו מן הפרושים שמעו דבריו ויאמרו אליו הגם אנחנו עורים׃

41 Yeshua said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, 'We see,' your sin remains.

ויאמר אליהם אם עורים הייתם לא היה בכם חטא ועתה כי אמרתם פקחים אנחנו חטאתכם תעמד׃
