< John 8 >

1 but Yeshua went to the Mount of Olives.
THEN Jesus went to the mount of Olives.
2 Now very early in the morning, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them.
But early in the morning he came again to the temple, and all the people came to him; and sitting down he taught them.
3 Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,
Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman caught in adultery; and placing her in the midst,
4 they said to him, "Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act.
they say unto him, Master, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now in the Law, Mushe commanded us to stone such. So what do you say?"
Now Moses in the law commanded, that such women should be stoned: therefore what sayest thou?
6 Now they said this to test him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Yeshua stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger.
But this they said, trying to entrap him, that they might have ground of accusation against him. But Jesus stooping down, with his finger wrote on the ground.
7 But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her."
Now when they continued questioning him, raising himself up, he said to them, Let the person who is sinless among you, first cast a stone at her.
8 Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.
And again stooping down, he wrote on the ground.
9 But when they heard it, they went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last, and he was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle.
But when they heard him, and felt the conviction of their conscience, they slunk away one by one, beginning from the elders to the last: so Jesus was left alone, with the woman standing in the midst.
10 Then Yeshua, standing up, said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?"
Then Jesus raising himself up, and seeing no person but the woman, said unto her, Woman, where are these thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 And she said, "No one, Lord." And Yeshua said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go, and sin no more."
She said, No man, Lord. Then said Jesus unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
12 Again, therefore, Yeshua spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."
Then spake Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13 The Pharisees therefore said to him, "You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid."
The Pharisees said to him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy witness is not true.
14 Yeshua answered them, "Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you do not know where I came from, or where I am going.
Jesus answered and said to them, Though I do bear witness of myself, my witness is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I am going; but ye know not whence I come, nor whither I am going.
15 You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.
Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
16 Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.
But though I should judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me.
17 It's also written in your Law that the testimony of two people is valid.
Now even in your law it is written, that the testimony of two men is true.
18 I am one who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me."
I am a witness for myself, and the Father who sent me beareth witness of me.
19 They said therefore to him, "Where is your Father?" Yeshua answered, "You know neither me, nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also."
Then said they to him, Where is thy father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also.
20 Yeshua spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. Yet no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no person apprehended him; for his hour was not yet come.
21 Yeshua said therefore again to them, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you cannot come."
Then spake Jesus again to them, I am going away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: whither I am going ye cannot come.
22 The Jewish leaders therefore said, "Will he kill himself, that he says, 'Where I am going, you cannot come?'"
The Jews said therefore, Will he kill himself? because he said, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
23 He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.
And he said to them, Ye are from those beneath; I am from those above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
24 I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins."
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am, ye shall die in your sins.
25 They said therefore to him, "Who are you?" Yeshua said to them, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.
They said, therefore to him, Who art thou? And Jesus said to them, Assuredly the same as I am telling you.
26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world."
I have many things to speak and to decide concerning you: but he that sent me is true; and the things which I have heard from him I speak to the world.
27 They did not understand that he spoke to them about the Father.
They knew not that he spake to them of the Father.
28 Yeshua therefore said to them, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing of myself, but as the Father taught me, I say these things.
Then said Jesus to them, When ye shall have lifted up on high the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am, and of myself have I done nothing; but as the Father hath instructed me, so I speak.
29 He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn't left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him."
And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; because I always do the things acceptable to him.
30 As he spoke these things, many believed in him.
As he spake these words, many believed on him.
31 Yeshua therefore said to those Yehudeans who had believed him, "If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.
Then said Jesus to those Jews who believed on him, If ye abide in my word, assuredly ye are my disciples;
32 You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, "We are Avraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, 'You will be made free?'"
They answered him, We are Abraham’s seed, and never were in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, That we shall be made free?
34 Yeshua answered them, "Truly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, That every one who committeth sin is the slave of sin.
35 A slave does not live in the house forever. A son remains forever. (aiōn g165)
But the slave abideth not in the family for ever: but the son abideth for ever. (aiōn g165)
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
If the Son therefore make you free, ye will be truly free.
37 I know that you are Avraham's descendants, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.
I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; yet ye seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you.
38 I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have heard from your father."
I speak what I have seen with my Father: and ye do therefore what ye have seen with your father.
39 They answered him, "Our father is Avraham." Yeshua said to them, "If you were Avraham's children, you would do the works of Avraham.
They answered and said unto him, Our Father is Abraham. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were the children of Abraham, ye would have done the works of Abraham.
40 But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God. Avraham did not do this.
But now ye seek to kill me, a man who hath told you the truth, which I have heard from God. Abraham did not so.
41 You do the works of your father." They said to him, "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God."
Ye do the works of your father. They said unto him, We are not born of whoredom; we have one Father, even God.
42 Therefore Yeshua said to them, "If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I have not come of myself, but he sent me.
Then said Jesus unto them, If God was your Father, ye would have loved me: for I came out from God, and I am coming; neither indeed came I of myself, but he hath sent me.
43 Why do you not understand my speech? Because you cannot hear my word.
Wherefore do ye not understand my speech? because ye cannot hear my word.
44 You are of your father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and its father.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will practise. He was a murderer from the beginning, and stood not fast in the truth, because truth was not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh what is peculiarly his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.
But because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46 Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?
Which of you can convict me of sin? Now if I speak the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you do not hear, because you are not of God."
He that is of God heareth the words of God: ye therefore do not hear him, because ye are not of God.
48 Then the Yehudeans answered him, "Do not we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?"
Then answered the Jews, and said to him, Do we not rightly affirm, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
49 Yeshua answered, "I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.
Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me.
50 But I do not seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.
But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
51 Truly, truly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death." (aiōn g165)
Verily, verily, I say unto you, If any man observe my saying, he shall never see death to all eternity. (aiōn g165)
52 Then the Yehudeans said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon. Avraham died, and the prophets; and you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste of death.' (aiōn g165)
Then said the Jews to him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If any man observe my word, he shall never taste of death to eternity. (aiōn g165)
53 Are you greater than our father, Avraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?"
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
54 Yeshua answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say 'He is our God.'
Jesus answered, If I assume glory to myself, my glory is nothing: it is the Father who glorifies me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55 You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, 'I do not know him,' I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and keep his word.
yet have ye not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, that I know him not, I should be like you, a liar: but I know him, and observe his word.
56 Your father Avraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it, and was glad."
Your father Abraham exulted for joy that he should see this day of mine: and saw it, and rejoiced.
57 The Yehudeans therefore said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Avraham?"
Then said the Jews unto him, Thou hast not yet reached the age of fifty, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 Yeshua said to them, "Truly, truly, I tell you, before Avraham came into existence, I AM."
Jesus said unto them, Before Abraham had a being, I Am.
59 Therefore they took up stones to throw at him, but Yeshua was concealed, and went out of the temple.
Then took they up stones to hurl at him: but Jesus was hid, and went out of the temple, passing through the midst of them, and so went away.
