< John 4 >

1 Therefore when Yeshua knew that the Pharisees had heard, "Yeshua is making and baptizing more disciples than Yukhanan"
When therefore Jesus knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
2 (although Yeshua himself did not baptize, but his disciples),
(though Jesus himself did not baptize, but his disciples, )
3 he left Yehuda, and departed again into Galila.
he left Judaea, and went again to Galilee.
4 He needed to pass through Samaria.
And he must necessarily pass through Samaria.
5 So he came to a city of Samaria, called Shekar, near the parcel of ground that Yaquv gave to his son, Yauseph.
He cometh therefore to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near the piece of land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Yaquv's well was there. Yeshua therefore, being tired from his journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
And Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with the journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Yeshua said to her, "Give me a drink."
There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus saith to her, Give me to drink.
8 For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
9 The Samaritan woman therefore said to him, "How can you, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
The Samaritan woman saith to him, How is it that thou, who art a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a Samaritan woman? For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
10 Yeshua answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."
Jesus answered and said to her, If thou hadst known the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldst have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman said to him, "Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From where do you get that living water?
The woman saith to him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Whence hast thou the living water?
12 Are you greater than our father, Yaquv, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, as did his children, and his livestock?"
Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?
13 Yeshua answered her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,
Jesus answered and said to her, Every one that drinketh of this water, will thirst again;
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to everlasting life." (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
but whoever drinketh of the water that I will give him, will never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become within him a well of water springing up to everlasting life. (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
15 The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that I do not get thirsty, neither come all the way here to draw."
The woman saith to him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come hither to draw.
16 He said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here."
He saith to her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 The woman answered and said to him, "I have no husband." Yeshua said to her, "You said well, 'I have no husband,'
The woman answered, I have no husband. Jesus saith to her, Thou saidst well, that thou hast no husband.
18 for you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband. This you have said truly."
For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband; in this thou hast spoken truly.
19 The woman said to him, "Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.
The woman saith to him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
20 Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you say that in Urishlim is the place where people ought to worship."
Our fathers worshipped on this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
21 Yeshua said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when neither in this mountain, nor in Urishlim, will you worship the Father.
Jesus saith to her, Believe me, woman, the hour is coming, when ye shall neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.
22 You worship that which you do not know. We worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.
Ye worship that which ye know not; we worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.
23 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshippers.
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for such worshippers the Father seeketh.
24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."
God is a spirit; and they who worship must worship in spirit and in truth.
25 The woman said to him, "I know that Meshikha comes," (he who is called Meshikha). "When he has come, he will declare to us all things."
The woman saith to him, I know that Messiah cometh (who is called Christ); when he hath come, he will tell us all things.
26 Yeshua said to her, "I am he, the one who speaks to you."
Jesus saith to her, I who speak to thee am he.
27 At this, his disciples came. They were surprised that he was speaking with a woman; yet no one said, "What are you looking for?" or, "Why do you speak with her?"
And upon this his disciples came, and marveled that he was talking with a woman. Yet no one said, What dost thou seek? or, Why dost thou talk with her?
28 So the woman left her water pot, and went away into the city, and said to the people,
The woman then left her water-pot, and went away into the city, and saith to the men,
29 "Come, see a man who told me everything that I did. Can this be the Meshikha?"
Come, see a man who told me all things which I have done. Is this the Christ?
30 They went out of the city, and were coming to him.
They went out of the city, and came to him.
31 In the meanwhile, the disciples urged him, saying, "Rabbi, eat."
In the mean while the disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, eat.
32 But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not know about."
But he said to them, I have food to eat that ye know not of.
33 The disciples therefore said one to another, "Has anyone brought him something to eat?"
The disciples therefore said to one another, Hath any one brought him anything to eat?
34 Yeshua said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.
Jesus saith to them, My food is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
35 Do you not say, 'There are yet four months until the harvest?' Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes and see the fields, that they are white for harvest already.
Do ye not say, There are yet four months, and the harvest cometh? Lo! I say to you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.
36 He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit to everlasting life; that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
Already is the reaper receiving wages, and gathering fruit unto everlasting life; that both the sower and the reaper may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
37 For in this the saying is true, 'One sows, and another reaps.'
And herein is fulfilled the true saying, One soweth, and another reapeth.
38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor."
I have sent you to reap that whereon ye have not labored. Others have labored, and ye have entered into their labor.
39 From that city many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the word of the woman, who testified, "He told me everything that I did."
And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in him because of the words of the woman, who testified, He told me all things which I have done.
40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them. He stayed there two days.
When therefore the Samaritans came to him, they besought him to remain with them; and he remained there two days.
41 Many more believed because of his word.
And many more believed on account of his word;
42 They said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of your speaking; for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Savior of the world."
and said to the woman, No longer do we believe on account of what thou hast told us; for we have ourselves heard him, and know that this is in truth the Saviour of the world.
43 After the two days he departed from there to Galila.
And after the two days he went from that place into Galilee.
44 For Yeshua himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.
For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honor in his own country.
45 So when he came into Galila, the Galilaye received him, having seen all the things that he did in Urishlim at the feast, for they also went to the feast.
When therefore he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all that he did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they also went to the feast.
46 Yeshua came therefore again to Qatne of Galila, where he made the water into wine. There was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Kepharnakhum.
So he came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick, at Capernaum.
47 When he heard that Yeshua had come out of Yehuda into Galila, he went to him, and pleaded with him that he would come down and heal his son, for he was close to death.
He, having heard that Jesus had come out of Judaea into Galilee, went to him, and asked him to go down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.
48 Yeshua therefore said to him, "Unless you see signs and wonders, you will in no way believe."
Then Jesus said to him, Unless ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
49 The nobleman said to him, "Sir, come down before my child dies."
The nobleman saith to him, Sir, come down before my child die.
50 Yeshua said to him, "Go your way. Your son lives." The man believed the word that Yeshua spoke to him, and he went his way.
Jesus saith to him, Go; thy son liveth. The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and went away.
51 As he was now going down, his servants met him, saying that his son was alive.
And as he was now going down, the servants met him, and brought word that his child was living.
52 So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. They said therefore to him, "Yesterday at one in the afternoon, the fever left him."
Then he inquired of them the hour when he began to mend. And they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
53 So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Yeshua said to him, "Your son lives." He believed, as did his whole house.
So the father knew that it was in the same hour in which Jesus said to him, Thy son is living. And he himself believed, and his whole house.
54 This is again the second sign that Yeshua did, having come out of Yehuda into Galila.
This again, a second sign, Jesus wrought, when he had come out of Judaea into Galilee.
