< John 10 >
1 "Truly, truly, I tell you, one who does not enter by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, that one is a thief and a robber.
ahaM yuShmAnatiyathArthaM vadAmi, yo jano dvAreNa na pravishya kenApyanyena meShagR^ihaM pravishati sa eva steno dasyushcha|
2 But one who enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
yo dvAreNa pravishati sa eva meShapAlakaH|
3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out.
dauvArikastasmai dvAraM mochayati meShagaNashcha tasya vAkyaM shR^iNoti sa nijAn meShAn svasvanAmnAhUya bahiH kR^itvA nayati|
4 Whenever he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.
tathA nijAn meShAn bahiH kR^itvA svayaM teShAm agre gachChati, tato meShAstasya shabdaM budhyante, tasmAt tasya pashchAd vrajanti|
5 They will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him; for they do not know the voice of strangers."
kintu parasya shabdaM na budhyante tasmAt tasya pashchAd vrajiShyanti varaM tasya samIpAt palAyiShyante|
6 Yeshua spoke this parable to them, but they did not understand what he was telling them.
yIshustebhya imAM dR^iShTAntakathAm akathayat kintu tena kathitakathAyAstAtparyyaM te nAbudhyanta|
7 Yeshua therefore said to them again, "Truly, truly, I tell you, I am the sheep's door.
ato yIshuH punarakathayat, yuShmAnAhaM yathArthataraM vyAharAmi, meShagR^ihasya dvAram ahameva|
8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.
mayA na pravishya ya AgachChan te stenA dasyavashcha kintu meShAsteShAM kathA nAshR^iNvan|
9 I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out, and will find pasture.
ahameva dvArasvarUpaH, mayA yaH kashchita pravishati sa rakShAM prApsyati tathA bahirantashcha gamanAgamane kR^itvA charaNasthAnaM prApsyati|
10 The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.
yo janastenaH sa kevalaM stainyabadhavinAshAn karttumeva samAyAti kintvaham Ayu rdAtum arthAt bAhUlyena tadeva dAtum AgachCham|
11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
ahameva satyameShapAlako yastu satyo meShapAlakaH sa meShArthaM prANatyAgaM karoti;
12 He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away; and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.
kintu yo jano meShapAlako na, arthAd yasya meShA nijA na bhavanti, ya etAdR^isho vaitanikaH sa vR^ikam AgachChantaM dR^iShTvA mejavrajaM vihAya palAyate, tasmAd vR^ikastaM vrajaM dhR^itvA vikirati|
13 And the hired hand flees because he is a hired hand and the sheep means nothing to him.
vaitanikaH palAyate yataH sa vetanArthI meShArthaM na chintayati|
14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me;
ahameva satyo meShapAlakaH, pitA mAM yathA jAnAti, aha ncha yathA pitaraM jAnAmi,
15 even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep.
tathA nijAn meShAnapi jAnAmi, meShAshcha mAM jAnAnti, aha ncha meShArthaM prANatyAgaM karomi|
16 I have other sheep, which are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice. They will become one flock with one shepherd.
apara ncha etad gR^ihIya meShebhyo bhinnA api meShA mama santi te sakalA AnayitavyAH; te mama shabdaM shroShyanti tata eko vraja eko rakShako bhaviShyati|
17 Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.
prANAnahaM tyaktvA punaH prANAn grahIShyAmi, tasmAt pitA mayi snehaM karoti|
18 No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down by myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. I received this commandment from my Father."
kashchijjano mama prANAn hantuM na shaknoti kintu svayaM tAn samarpayAmi tAn samarpayituM punargrahItu ncha mama shaktirAste bhAramimaM svapituH sakAshAt prAptoham|
19 A division arose again among the Jewish people because of these words.
asmAdupadeshAt punashcha yihUdIyAnAM madhye bhinnavAkyatA jAtA|
20 Many of them said, "He has a demon, and is insane. Why do you listen to him?"
tato bahavo vyAharan eSha bhUtagrasta unmattashcha, kuta etasya kathAM shR^iNutha?
21 Others said, "These are not the sayings of one possessed by a demon. It is not possible for a demon to open the eyes of the blind, is it?"
kechid avadan etasya kathA bhUtagrastasya kathAvanna bhavanti, bhUtaH kim andhAya chakShuShI dAtuM shaknoti?
22 At that time Hanukkah took place in Urishlim.
shItakAle yirUshAlami mandirotsargaparvvaNyupasthite
23 It was winter, and Yeshua was walking in the temple, in Shelemun's porch.
yIshuH sulemAno niHsAreNa gamanAgamane karoti,
24 The Jewish leaders therefore came around him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Meshikha, tell us plainly."
etasmin samaye yihUdIyAstaM veShTayitvA vyAharan kati kAlAn asmAkaM vichikitsAM sthApayiShyAmi? yadyabhiShikto bhavati tarhi tat spaShTaM vada|
25 Yeshua answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name, these testify about me.
tadA yIshuH pratyavadad aham achakathaM kintu yUyaM na pratItha, nijapitu rnAmnA yAM yAM kriyAM karomi sA kriyaiva mama sAkShisvarUpA|
26 But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep.
kintvahaM pUrvvamakathayaM yUyaM mama meShA na bhavatha, kAraNAdasmAn na vishvasitha|
27 As I said to you, my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
mama meShA mama shabdaM shR^iNvanti tAnahaM jAnAmi te cha mama pashchAd gachChanti|
28 I give everlasting life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. (aiōn , aiōnios )
ahaM tebhyo. anantAyu rdadAmi, te kadApi na naMkShyanti kopi mama karAt tAn harttuM na shakShyati| (aiōn , aiōnios )
29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.
yo mama pitA tAn mahyaM dattavAn sa sarvvasmAt mahAn, kopi mama pituH karAt tAn harttuM na shakShyati|
30 I and the Father are one."
ahaM pitA cha dvayorekatvam|
31 Therefore the Jewish leaders took up stones again to stone him.
tato yihUdIyAH punarapi taM hantuM pAShANAn udatolayan|
32 Yeshua answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of those works do you stone me?"
yIshuH kathitavAn pituH sakAshAd bahUnyuttamakarmmANi yuShmAkaM prAkAshayaM teShAM kasya karmmaNaH kAraNAn mAM pAShANairAhantum udyatAH stha?
33 The Jewish leaders answered him, "We do not stone you for a good work, but for blasphemy: because you, being a man, make yourself God."
yihUdIyAH pratyavadan prashastakarmmaheto rna kintu tvaM mAnuShaH svamIshvaram uktveshvaraM nindasi kAraNAdasmAt tvAM pAShANairhanmaH|
34 Yeshua answered them, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, you are gods?'
tadA yIshuH pratyuktavAn mayA kathitaM yUyam IshvarA etadvachanaM yuShmAkaM shAstre likhitaM nAsti kiM?
35 If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),
tasmAd yeShAm uddeshe Ishvarasya kathA kathitA te yadIshvaragaNA uchyante dharmmagranthasyApyanyathA bhavituM na shakyaM,
36 do you say of him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You blaspheme,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God?'
tarhyAham Ishvarasya putra iti vAkyasya kathanAt yUyaM pitrAbhiShiktaM jagati prerita ncha pumAMsaM katham IshvaranindakaM vAdaya?
37 If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe me.
yadyahaM pituH karmma na karomi tarhi mAM na pratIta;
38 But if I do them, though you do not believe me, believe the works; that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father."
kintu yadi karomi tarhi mayi yuShmAbhiH pratyaye na kR^ite. api kAryye pratyayaH kriyatAM, tato mayi pitAstIti pitaryyaham asmIti cha kShAtvA vishvasiShyatha|
39 Now they sought again to seize him, and he went out of their hand.
tadA te punarapi taM dharttum acheShTanta kintu sa teShAM karebhyo nistIryya
40 He went away again beyond the Yurdinan into the place where Yukhanan was baptizing at first, and there he stayed.
puna ryarddan adyAstaTe yatra purvvaM yohan amajjayat tatrAgatya nyavasat|
41 Many came to him. They said, "Yukhanan indeed did no sign, but everything that Yukhanan said about this man is true."
tato bahavo lokAstatsamIpam Agatya vyAharan yohan kimapyAshcharyyaM karmma nAkarot kintvasmin manuShye yA yaH kathA akathayat tAH sarvvAH satyAH;
42 And many believed in him there.
tatra cha bahavo lokAstasmin vyashvasan|
