James 3
1 Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.
Hermanos míos, no seáis muchos los maestros, sabiendo que recibiremos un juicio más severo.
2 For in many things we all stumble. If anyone does not stumble in word, this one is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.
Porque todos tropezamos en muchas cosas. El que no tropieza en la palabra es una persona perfecta, capaz de refrenar también a todo el cuerpo.
3 Now if we put bits into the horses' mouths so that they may obey us, we guide their whole body.
En efecto, ponemos bocados en la boca de los caballos para que nos obedezcan, y guiamos todo su cuerpo.
4 And look at the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.
He aquí que también las naves, aunque son tan grandes y son impulsadas por vientos feroces, son guiadas por un timón muy pequeño, hacia donde el piloto quiere.
5 So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest.
Así también la lengua es un miembro pequeño, y se jacta de grandes cosas. Mira cómo un pequeño fuego puede extenderse hasta un gran bosque.
6 And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gihana. (Geenna g1067)
Y la lengua es un fuego. El mundo de la iniquidad entre nuestros miembros es la lengua, que contamina todo el cuerpo, e incendia el curso de la naturaleza, y es incendiada por la Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
7 For all kinds of animals, and birds, of reptiles and sea creatures, are being tamed and have been tamed by humankind.
Porque toda clase de animal, de ave, de reptil y de criatura marina está domesticada, y ha sido domesticada por la humanidad;
8 But nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
pero nadie puede domesticar la lengua. Es un mal inquieto, lleno de veneno mortal.
9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who are made in the image of God.
Con ella bendecimos a nuestro Dios y Padre, y con ella maldecimos a los hombres que están hechos a imagen de Dios.
10 Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
De la misma boca salen bendiciones y maldiciones. Hermanos míos, estas cosas no deben ser así.
11 Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?
¿Acaso un manantial envía de la misma abertura agua dulce y amarga?
12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Nor is salt water able to produce sweet.
¿Acaso una higuera, hermanos míos, puede dar aceitunas, o una vid higos? Así pues, ningún manantial da a la vez agua salada y agua dulce.
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.
¿Quién es sabio y entendido entre vosotros? Que demuestre con su buena conducta que sus obras son hechas con mansedumbre y sabiduría.
14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and do not lie against the truth.
Pero si tienes celos amargos y ambición egoísta en tu corazón, no te jactes ni mientas contra la verdad.
15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.
Esta sabiduría no es la que desciende de lo alto, sino que es terrenal, sensual y demoníaca.
16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.
Porque donde están los celos y la ambición egoísta, allí está la confusión y toda obra mala.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy.
Pero la sabiduría que viene de arriba es primero pura, luego pacífica, amable, razonable, llena de misericordia y de buenos frutos, sin parcialidad y sin hipocresía.
18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Ahora bien, el fruto de la justicia lo siembran en paz los que hacen la paz.
